GUNTING: it will continue in some form

Julian I've looked on both Bram's and Spyderco's sites and only see the full set of DVDs / Tapes do you have any idea where to get the intro tape/dvd

Thanks guys I went ahead and ordered the whole set. By the way CSSDSC has the set on sale for 89.10 :D :D

I can not believe the Gunting was discontinued and secondly do not understand why Bram has not gotten another company to produce the Gunting.

About two years ago I went to a knife show were a company from Washington state was showing off the trainer, live folder and if memory serves my, a "police model" which was a drone in a different color then red.

I was sold, went back to my group of instructors and discussed the issue of training as instructors with the Gunting and then (again if memory serves me) we decided not to learn the Gunting knowing or knew it was discontinued.

For what it's worth, the Jacobe Group trains a great deal of civilian, a fair amount of LEO and private security in firearms, Kubaton, rifle, shotgun to name a few. For knife counter knife we sought out a local professional but his schedule was so demanding I feel the training offered was only good enough to wet students whisle.

The Gunting system gave us hope to develop from Bram's system a method to teach the system continually. We don't touch any system unless it has been proven and is defensible... With that I hope Bram gets the Gunting back into production along with classes were our group and learn how to teach.

Thank you Bram for developing the Gunting system!

Hi Kevin,

The Gunting was disco'd because sales were declining. We have disco'd many designs that we would have preferred not. But when sales begin to decline, and there are more new models waiting for a production slot, the model has to go. It lasted more than most outside designs.

I think it would have flown better if Bram hadn't met with such resistance from Police departments to issue knives. Police departments have not issued knives to Law enforcement officers. I think it's political, but Bram did indicate he was having problems breaking that old "policy".

Bram has everything he needs to continue with the Gunting. Spydero has assigned all trademarks, patents, engineering drawings, etc. to Bram Frank. We hope he can continue and be successful. We always believed the Gunting system was a valid system.

I believe he has a fixed blade version being made by Ontario. I don't know his plans for future folding Guntings.

Sal,

First off thanks for producing the Gunting in the first place. All of our instructors carry at least one Spyderco (typically the SS Police). Finally had them convinced in the Gunting also but the timing was wrong.

I will second the opinion on LEO policy, seen this many times from disallowing reserves from carrying BUG (backup guns) to knife carry for sworn officers. One of my goals for the next five years is to teach LEO on their grounds (just applied for a position) simply because the average officer and brass will better listen to one of their own then an outsider in general.

Hopefully Bram will continue with the Gunting beings you providing him with what is needed to move forward.

BTW I now have two live Gunting and one drone on order.

Just found a good review of the Gunting in ASLET magazine from March/April 2003, page 63. In this article the reviewer gave the GUNTING nothing but "thumbs up".

To those out there looking for the future of the GUNTING, you need only go to the following site CSSDSC

The GUNTING as I see it is a tool and system way to important to never be seen again.

Looking for a live and drone? There is a set on eBay with just over one day left on bidding. Both come with kydex sheaths in matching colors.

I spent to much money this month, otherwise I would be bidding on these Guntings on eBay...Rats.
