Gunting modified (Suspect Gunting!)

I just love how long threads have all these little tangents... really... we go from a knife mod to the virtues of technical advisors in hollywood!

1. If people want to discuss a side topic -- be it September 11th, guns and knives in movies -- who cares? It's not hurting anyone, and it's not like it's taking up a lot of server space or network bandwidth.

2. Nobody is forcing anyone to read anything. If you don't like what you see, move on. You're not hurting my feelings by not reading my posts.

I'm not miffed or anything. It actually amuses me how some people can get irritated and belittle such minor things. In the whole scheme of things, it's such "small potatoes".

ExamonLyf: You said what I was thinking.
Eric: Personally I like to see more your customs even that my taste is somewhere different. Thats why customs are right: For PERSONAL taste. M1911 pistol with custom modifications is still M1911. Gunting with Erics modifications is still a knife. And to me nice looking even that I don´t one more than Gunting. Maybe it is not anymore tomahawk but Eric doesnt care. Pocket knife is pocket knife even if it can be tomahawk (or knuckle or what ever) on the same time.
Remember: Any folder is just a folder. Not a "wonder weapon" or even close. It can´t be.
Lets say we have a battle and 100% equal fighters. Pocket knife will loose to bigger knife or good baton (PR24, ASP etc) or to gun. Fighter without knife or with knuckle will loose to pocket knife.
Gunting can be equal to Chinook or BM CQC7 or Gerber Applegate or Buck 110 or what ever. Not more but certainly not less.
Gunting do have some options like non lethal techgues what I don´t personally believe so much. Of course if you have proper (=Bram) training and very cool mind then you can use Gunting non lethal way effectivily. But then you already have so much Bushido that you never need a knife.
Normal citizen even with some training is in SD situation so "high" that he can´t do very complicate tecniques. He uses a weapon most effective way = blade. For that reason some LE-agencies takes MP5 full auto option away because even some LEO:s believes that full auto is more effective and that they ty to use in "action".

Buh bye donnytheboy.

:D :D :D ...Eric Blair, your modification ...this is nothing ....

Who customized that Gunting? Bugs Bunny or Todd MacFarlane?

I thought I recocognized Bram's stylized tapi from an old Roadrunner cartoon! :)

Um, did y'all notice how old this thread is? It was resurrected by an "agenda troll." Eric Blair has moved far beyond Dremel tools now, and is a respected maker of knives and other arcane weapons and gadgets. In fact, he stopped taking orders for knife modifications some time ago and only makes new stuff. He works extensively with titanium and other unusual materials. Edited to add: Eric's mods have removed the ability of the knife to perform techniques vitally important to Bram's Gunting teaching. If Eric does not want the knife to perform those techniques, then he has lost nothing, except maybe some reinforcement at the pommel end of the handle. As sturdy as the Gunting's liners and handle scales are, that may not matter. I had considered having Eric modify one of my Guntings, with a recontoured, shortened blade which would be less than 2.5 inches, and a second pocket clip added to the "off" side, for left-side carry. I would not want the factory pocket clip removed, nor the divot on the handle scale covered, because I want the Gunting to remain a Gunting. Alas, Eric does not do mods any more.

Yeah, but it was a fun thread to resurrect!

(Ya have to wonder why he picked this one, though.)

The troll was causing trouble here and on Self Defense Forums aimed at Don Rearic, over the issue of people modifying knives to open in the manner of Ernest Emerson's patented Wave. It should suffice to say that Ernest Emerson and Bram Frank are at peace on this issue, both the Wave and Ramp are patented, and are different concepts. Moreover, Eric Blair and Ernest Emerson know each other well. Notice that Eric calls himself a "Suspect." The Usual Suspects are big fans and supporters of Emerson Knives. Let us please not open any cans of worms in this thread! Thanks

Talk about thread necromancy...

I really enjoyed Simona's modification adding the integral padlock. That is a welcomed change for anyone who has ever worried about knife retention in the event of a physical confrontation. Now we just have to figure out where to attach the lock. :D

I had hoped my posts would provide enough information to remedy the need to beat any dead horses here. ;) Hmm, beating dead horses, opening cans of worms; I bet some of our non-USA members wonder about our little sayings. :)

I think the term was "flogging a dead horse"... I'm pretty sure the sayings originated from England :)

Maybe you'd like to take a look at this one...
Is it a Gunting? I don't know. Is it a kinetic opening knife? I say it is. Is it an hommage to Bram Frank? This is what I intended :)

Dialex, there is something very attractive about that design -- but I think Jot Singh Khalsa already did one! :D

WTF is donnytheboy?

Old thread, but my $.02...

How many knives does the average forumite have? How many have found the "perfect knife", and have forsaken all others. How many have commissioned expensive customs hoping for their "perfect knife", because there aren't any production ones that fit the bill?

If a person can take an existing knife and modify it into his "perfect knife", more power to him.
