H&K 14715 AXIS (D2 blade) EDC alternative to 950 Rift?

Yes. It's in US CPM-D2 steel as well. Their import models are usually in the bargain steels. I love my Nitrous Blitz, and just may need to get this beauty. And tip-up carry too! I still need to convert the Blitz, just don't have the right tap and stuff.

Are you sure it's CPM-D2, and not regular D2? That actually makes a big difference. The M4 is listed as CPM-M4, while the 154 is 154CM (meaning not CPM-154). I'd be very surprised if Benchmade used the more expensive CPM version of D2 and never bothered to list it somewhere.

I believe BKC still uses non CPM. I would like BKC to start replacing 154cm with CPM-154 on newer line up and older model which is currently using 154cm.

Either way, D2 is proven tool steel even in non powder metal form. It is resilient and tougher. It is not difficult to sharpen without diamond stone. D2 is relatively high carbon steel. (1.9% is higher than S30V, 154-cm, M2, and even M4. Only S90V and M390 contains more in BKC line up)

After three month of regular use, D2 remained sharp enough for touch up.

Two good thing to improve original assessment.

1) G10 surface. After regular use, it become dull enough that it no longer spreads pocket.

2) Pivot swing of the blade has break-in feel that deployment of the blade become much smoother.

I like the fact that candy bar shaped handle is convenient to carry in my range bag and easy to take it out. I think if I am to carry in my pocket, I would prefer slightly curved shape of Rift handle, but HK14715 is well matched with carrying in magazine pouch.

Benchmade list it as regular D2 of Austrian origin.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I almost just made a post about this. I bought this knife for $105 shipped from bladeHQ... can't believe how great of a deal this knife is, and yet no one is talking about it. The fit and finish on mine is better than the fit and finish on the Rift I received, yet was significantly less expensive. My only guess is that people don't like it because it is branded HK...

It seems like an extremely good value when compared to similar Benchmade models. The handle looks a lot more comfortable than the Rift that's for sure. Only thing I don't like is how blocky the end of the handle looks, would have preferred they rounded it off some more looks out of place. My guess would be the HK branding as well as only being offered with a black blade is the reason you don't hear more about it.

I bought one a month or so ago. Only used it for light tasks so far. Great knife! I actually find the handle shape and squared off end to fit the hand real nicely.

This knife, despite any criticism stated, is a keeper. Amazingly made in the USA, it's a gem at an excellent price point. It reminds me of the old 14205, maybe the Presidio, maybe the Ares. I like it a lot better than the 950.

Joe, you are not helping me avoid buying a new knife...

I wish they never disco'd the 14205 :grumpy:....like it better than the Rift, Axis Stryker, or 14715... Presidio is my favorite currently available Benchmade.

I must admit bang for a buck, this 14715 H&K AXIS is good value. I would prefer M390, but D2 is super decent, tough steel.

I received one recently and am very impressed. Another standout for sure, especially for the price.

In hand, feel and visually, to me it most resembles a beefed up 908 Stryker. Blade shape and handle are very close but the HK 14715 blade is slightly longer and thicker as well as the handle. Plus it weighs slightly more but not much.

I really love the Strykers old and new and the 14715 just found a place among some of my favorites.

Very well done!

I hear you but I wonder how much more it would cost in M390?

As is like you said it's a great value and BM's D2 is good stuff.

I'm really liking this knife a lot!

Waiting on the 14175BK to come back in stock for $93 shipped from that shop that sells cutlery. They only have the 14715SBK with ComboEdge in stock.

Can anyone put up a side by side with a paramilitary 2? I've been wanting to get one but I don't wanna go much bigger than a para 2

I backordered one from them four days ago and it looks like it will get to me today. Took ~36 hours to ship.

I don't have PM2 nearby, but here is the dimension of H&K AXIS 14715.

Blade Length: 3.69"
Blade Thickness: 0.146"
Handle Thickness: 0.510"
Open 8.34"
Closed 4.64"

My 14715BK should be here on Monday. Got it for $93 shipped from that shop that sells cutlery. That's a heck of a deal when you consider that the Rift 950BK is $178.50! Plus, you get D2 instead of 154CM!
