Haebbie in the wild west

Posted the same at Armand's GSOE. But I promised to start a new thread for my adventures in the northwest of the USA. First destination: Glacier Park. Going to the sun road, More Glacier Valley. I took some impressing photos. BUT: Just now my gold membership expired. I am in the USA and have problems with internet, WiFi is not always available an I can't pay my gold membership that I can't upload a knife picture neither at Armand's show nor pictures of the impressing nature here in the Rockies.

But a story from today:
We had a strange adventure toady. We are in the glacier mountains for hiking. At least we stepped into a grizzly family one cub on the left, one on the right one in the front, roundabout five yards away. The mom was not visible. I could show you guys a picture but I can't. May be next time when I was able to pay my account. That was an exciting day today

A good guy helped me with the gold membership, thank you!

Haebbie,
It looks like you are having a good time. Be very careful around the grizzlies, particularly when their cubs are around. Give our regards to Mrs. Haebbie! Melinda says hello!

howdy Haebbie,
got the computer running and at last got signed in to the forums
like the others please be carefull in wild places
would be bad you got hurt here...

Glad you and your wife were able to visit. I'm sorry you were disappointed by our National Parks, although there's nothing else like them in the world if it wasn't for the parks you wouldn't be able to see what you saw. It would all be private property with no access. In the wild of you came up to a cub that close you wouldn't be around to tell about it. The animals are accustomed to humans, they watch but aren't aggressive unless you do something real dumb, like getting too close to a Grizzly Bear cub.

There are plenty of places you could go to were you put on your hiking boots and go where no one has been for several decades. Give the parks a chance you went right in middle of the busiest vacation time, before school starts, in this country. Maybe you can return sometime in the mid-spring? There would be fewer crowds.

Have a safe trip home

Don

The big parks are definitely crowded. you would have to seek the smaller less traveled attractions. Last week when I visited Big Hole Battlefield. We were the only people there. Lots of places like that in this country but not as easy to come across from out of area.

I also went to Glacier after the 30th. It was somewhat bittersweet. The scenery is amazing and we thought getting to the park at 6am would help to beat the crowds, but by 9am there are more people in the park than there are in the rest of the whole state of MT. Maybe I'm spoiled by the remoteness of the Winds, but National parks are not really my cup of tea. I get a little angry with how accessible they make our last great frontiers of Wilderness, but i also appreciate how great it must be for the older and disabled people who don't get around well enough to get a chance to see such great areas. I am torn when it comes to National parks, glad we have them, but not for me at this point in my life. So today i will start planing for another Wilderness adventure to the Wind River Mountains. I have gone way too many days in a row seeing other people, so in 300 and 50 days give or take i will escape for at least a few days.....get to where this silly phone won't let me get sucked in

If it was private that would be one thing, but if it's government owned then I believe all citizens should have access. Not everyone has the opportunity to live local to that and experience it as often as they would like.

I agree that everyone should have access to public lands. My argument is that making access so easy is in fact ruining these great parks. The car/bus traffic through the big 3(Glacier, Yellowstone and Yosemitie) takes away from the experience and is doing damage that is hard to see day to day. That is why I mostly choose Wilderness area's located within national forest. Big difference between national forest and national parks. both have their +'s and -'s. For me I would much rather take a horse or hike into a roadless wilderness area and not have to pay a hefty fee for entering...

Well, guys, the 30th annual meeting was the third time I attended the celebrations. But this time I wanted more. My wife and I decided to visit the northwest of the United States to see a part of the country and to come in contact with the inhabitants. The first idea was to book a trail through Montana with horse and wagon. These talks are offered, one, two or three weeks long as described on old routes. But I couldn't book from Germany. So we took some books and thought we'll visit the large and well known national parks to get An impression.

At least, there are a lot of people especially when you drive to the local hotspots. But we take the mountain boots and walked on the described trails. And one or two miles away forum the hotspots you ate alone. At least some of the magnets for visitors are so important that it doesn't matter that you ate not alone. At least I am impressed how the American Park Administrations are handling their duties. The organiziation is perfect the ranger are present and friendly, they tell you everything you want to know an vibes you a lot of tips, may be where you can go to enjoy the nature without thousand others on the same way. Be sure, we have a good time and I am lucky to be able to visit a part of the country of the great American people.

More pictures?

Haebbie

Haebbie, so glad to have met you and that you were able to see some of the outstanding sights in the USA. Thanks for the pictures and comments on your adventure. Preston

Thanks for sharing your pictures from here in the USA and from back home.

Sooo...

Did you and your wife get an honorable mention at the meeting for the furthest distance traveled to attend or did someone else travel further?

I bet many of us Amercan citizens are wishing we were tagging along with some Germans right about now. Great pics, thanks!

You're welcome :) One guy came from Norway to the meeting. That's a bit further away.
