Happy hour. What are you Fiddlebacks listening to?

The Eric Clapton unplugged is definitely one of my favorite albums ever. Sure there are Layla and Tears in Heaven that most people know and love (of course I do myself, especially the guitar solo in the unplugged version of Layla), but this particular song pulls at my heart strings quite a bit. There was a time growing up where my dad's business failed miserably and we were struggling with money to the point that I didn't have money half the time to buy lunch at school, and I just remember my dad lamenting how all his friends abandoned him. Luckily, for me, the hardship was a blessing in that it kicked my butt to study hard and get into a decent school. Looking back, all fond memories, and a blessing from God as it is each and every day.

Never heard that one. Thanks for sharing it and thanks for sharing your story, it was inspiring. I too had similar conditions growing up. Me and my brother shared a room for years. That room happened to be my parents closet in a very small one bedroom. We were lucky though, Pop was always good at rustling something for our meals, but we owed the lunch lady quite a bit of lunches let's put it that way. Just when we ran out of food and money and didn't know what we were going to do, we'd find a $20 bill in between the seats of the car or some miracle would happen. I thank God for those times though and wouldn't change a thing. I appreciate the little things a lot more. More importantly, I appreciate and have the highest respect for my parents.

Yeah when you're down and out, nobody knows your name. That's so true. I feel sorry for this younger generation that think friends are people you interact with on social networks and see once in a while. I tell my kids "In life, if you end up with 2-3 real friends, consider yourself wealthy". 99% of your friends can't be counted on or depended on when you're in need. But when you're throwing the party or have scratch to burn, everybody's your best friend.

Essential listening if you grew up in the 80's -- (IMO)

Thanks for sharing your story too brother. Yeah I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything myself, and you certainly are more appreciative of what you have now (but boy it's so easy to get used to the good life). Yeah, as I'm getting married next year, I think about raising kids a lot and how I'll keep their head straight. I think that's where being outdoors, teaching them camping, bushcraft etc. will help a lot instead of buying them iPads. But yeah, that's an interesting question....is it harder to develop true friendships for kids these days? interesting philosophical question indeed....

Will, I love the 80's. Good stuff.

Duder and Josh, thanks for sharing. It's definitely a different world than when I grew up. My 9yr old son and his friends sit in the same room on their iPads texting each other and playing in their Minecraft creations. I'm thankful for the electronic free times when we get away, tomorrow being one of them.

My father taught me a lot of things and a love for the blues was a big one. His favorite player is Eric Clapton so I always think of this one concert he did that my dad use to watch over and over and this song always reminded me of him. Just had my first child two weeks ago and can't wait to teach him just as my father taught me.

There is a lot of disconnect in my generation, (dating myself) but hopefully there are still a few of us that can help show others truth and hard work and honesty. Always loved hearing about people's accomplishments and goals which is why I'm a Fiddleback Fan, and American Story.

My pleasure Nathan, I think it's great that we can share things like that on this sub. Though my fiance lately started calling it Pinterest for boys :P

Wish I was there with you Duder. I'm celebrating a little myself. For years I've had XM radio in my truck, and for years the channel has never left XM 23 - The Grateful Dead channel. That's just what you listen to in the truck. Period. Well, a few weeks ago, I let my XM subscription lapse and sure enough in the middle of a nice version of "Greatest Story".................................nothing.

I finally got off my butt and fixed the situation, and today we are back in business.

Here is Greatest Story from Veneta, '72.

I can't help but think about Robin when I hear this song. His passing was a big blow, he will be missed.
