Harness Jacks- any collectors?

HSB with what I think is a NYK Co. punch. Can't really see the fold along one side, but looks to be unused.

Interesting knife, Mike!! Is it stamped with a New York mark?
Can you picture another angle or two??

Beautiful Winchester and of course the Hughes & Co HSB Mike, just Wow!

I have decided to really try and ramp up the HJ collection so lets see what happens, that Punch is Laminated as well so must be a NY? Once Charlie sees other shots he will let us know, waynorth waynorth - Charlie thank you for this wonderful Thread my friend.

Just have a peek at page 11 of this thread - post 209 - where you will see a bit more of the NY Punch.

Also page 13 where Charlie talks about the Spiraled version of the NY Punch - post 247.
Patent dates help you - and as Charlie mentions in post 247 the date - so perhaps you could safely assume your HJ to be 1920’s or so?

Neal - That Locking HJ of Charlies would be extremely hard to find! Charlie has some absolutely exceptional Knives - in ANY pattern!
You can see the lock tab - I have never even handled such an HJ ( would very much like to though ) but presuming it would be very much like a liner lock - Let’s hope Charlie comes in.

C100342F-3BDE-4E19-B67E-4B5A4414550E.jpeg Duncan, maybe I’m missing it, a little colorblind, but durned if I can see it. That’s why I wondered if the NYK was blade release, as with some older Electrician knives. I’m going to ask somebody to modify an existing knife, with a spare Queen punch, like I have on my #49f:

Have another look at the knife - the Punch is out - and obviously you can see the Bolster - inbetween the Bolster and the Punch Tang you can see the wee oval tab sticking out - not only does the Punch itself have the Patent number but also the lock release tab looks to have a Patent number as well.

Haven’t heard from Jake for some time - I miss seeing him around - A real nice guy!

Edit: predictive txting took over spelling!

Once I looked in the right place, you were right! Lol. I kept looking on the frame, behind the bolster, ha. That is a rare bird, not-so-surprisingly. Thanks
Neal

Duncan I didn’t think, Charlie was at the Rendezvous! Lol. Getting old is creeping up.
Thanks, Neal

Duncan great link! I wonder if this thread should compress into the other? Let wiser heads than mine prevail...not too difficult, now that I think!
Thanks, Neal

Neal - when I started my HJ Thread - it was a while ago - I didn’t put the thought into it like I would have now - Charlie had started this thread long before I started mine and to be honest it wasn’t until time rolled on that it dawned on me that in doing so it must have seemed disrespectful to this existing Thread of Charlie’s- and believe me that was the complete furtherest thing in my mind. The thinking from my part just wasn’t put into place properly.
By then things were kind of set in stone by then - a merge was mentioned before but Charlie said we should let both run and to be honest - me even talking about this in Charlie’s Thread kind of detracts from This Thread.
This imo will always be THE HJ Thread.

Thought this might belong in this thread, picked up as a very sad rusty knife at a flea market when I must admit I didn't know the term Harness Jack.
A bit of gentle cleaning revealed a tang stamp of Begon 247 & a thread asking questions here educated me as to it's use.

It has a feeling of age, the horn covers being uneven but very smooth, I realise it's missing a bale on the opposite pin to the one with the washers & it's springs have seen better days by a country mile, but it is still a lovely knife!

Charlies title to this Thread " Harness Jacks - Any Collectors?"
I am sure there must be a few now- as often I arrive too late when a nice HJ goes up for sale in our Thread - traditionals for sale.

Heres a Nice Set by The Fathers of the TC's, HJ'S and many many more...

Beautiful knives.....

A smaller set, but as impressive easily!.....

I wonder with the Release of the Lambsfoot, is Charlies mind coming back to the Birth of #11?
