Campbellclanman, Fantastic H.J. examples and tutorials on them. I would encourage you to write an article on this subject my friend!!!

And some very fine examples shown from ea42 (Hammer Brand), Augie (Miller Bros.), Lambertiana (Ulster), and Kamagong (Miller Bros.)

Herder - thank you - but whenever I ( try ) do something like this I make mistakes- and these are mistakes that I know to bedifferent - I think the best way of describing this is “ when the Brain is thinking Orange and the hand writes Apple “
But I am taking a lot of photos of Punches and trying my best to add info with those photos - then cataloging them.

I will also be totally updating my HJ thread very soon with replacement photos from the destruction of past photobucket images- And as well updating some information- you will see the thread arise once this is done.
I’m having too much fun with Charlie’s great Thread on them.

While it's not fitted to a Harness Jack, New York Knife Co. did offer a wider punch blade in one of their tool knife set knives.
It has a patent number instead of a date (6-10-02 as seen on some) but also dates to 1902.

Definitely the widest one I have ever seen, herder, thanks!! A special edition for the tool kit I suppose.
Pre-WWI most likely!!?? The updated version with the spiral grooves on the outside, was patented in 1916, for NYK Co.
One to record for your punch study, Duncan!!

Thats a great thing to see there Herder- Im wondering if all the NY Punches began this wide before being taken down to the required width?
I must ask Augie to borrow his time machine so I can go on a Factory Tour Of the NY Knife Co factory- Hey I might even bring back some goodies- I will of course beef up the suspension of the Time machine because there will be one hang of a load coming back!
Yet the Patent is stamped right in the place where it would be removed if taken down some- so...perhpas not eh?
Heres a photo that covers both the Dates and the same Patent as your Herder Sir...

Edit....

Ha Charlie- you read my mind - why is that you are in the ring - getting slammed by all these Punches ( pardon the pun - but totally intended :)) - and you think to yourself " yep...yep I've got this as you grab the rope to your feet - Them Bam!!!!
That's what just happened to me when seeing Herders wide Punch:D

So ....Herder my friend, this means a better look at this new wonder please - when you can of course!

Schrade's gorgeous Punch on an Arched Stamped Schrade Cut Co.....

Hey ...you know when I was showing the different Stamped Knives that sported the Robeson Punch - well, here's another styled Punch that we will see in quite a few different Stamped Knives - we know that these knives that have these different stamps aren't always the Manufacturer but rather the Importer- hardware supplier - goods store, shoe shops even...so here three different Knives with one of Utica's widely seen Punch...

Those Schrade punches are quite attractive and business-like for sure!! Nicely machined!!

That lower, forged punch has been referred to as a "lightning" punch Duncan, because of the jog in the groove!
That's all I know . . . . . . .

While we are on the subject of this NYKC punch, here is another one with the patent number (albeit on a cattle knife, not a harness jack):

WOW!!
I can see why you like that one Cigarrodog!!
I have a Cattle Knife with the Enderes Stamping.
Gorgeous Bone!!!
I can’t quite see from the photo but is that a dodleg frame or teardrop?

I was kindly gifted this by Campbellclanman Campbellclanman as a runner up in a GAW not long after I joined the forum. To be honest I haven't carried it much because it had a wicked strong pull and scary closing snap. I have done some work on it by rounding the corners of the tang a bit and now the walk and talk is much better. I also reprofiled the blade slightly as the tip was too symmetrical to my eye so I flattened out the top curve of the blade. It looks much better IMO.

Thanks Duncan I hope to carry this one a lot more now
