Harness Jacks - Special Orders

I will have to get a picture to add it to your thread if that works for you ?[end quote]

By all means, Kevin - post a pic!

Sounds great. I am out of daylight but I will take one tomorrow or this weekend and post it.

It is one of my favorite knives, yet I have neglected to carry and use it.

I got it because I fell in love with the 54 big jack. I like the spear blade so much, and the size of the handle fits my hand like no other traditional I own period. I like the idea of the punch along with the spear blade better then the big jack with two very similar blades. I found myself battling it out in my brain for why two of the same. The harness jack was my answer.

Even though I have no use for a leather punch in my day to day use I prefer the punch to a second blade.

I plan to carry it, but then again, it seems they are fairly rare.

Very interesting Charlie, thanks for sharing! This thread is timed well, as I've been checking out the new GEC 85s and wondered why on earth they had a punch on some versions. At the risk of sounding contrary, may I ask what the appeal is for folks who don't work with leather or similar?

Here you go Waynorth :)

I didn't have much time, so I grabbed my point and shoot.

I was going to get out a real camera because I think this knife is worth the time and effort.

For now this quick shot will have to suffice :)

Ebony Beauty at its best..

And some older beauties that show age, but honestly...in my opinion...they are the better knife for it now, they show loving use of their previous owners, and yet, command us to stop in our tracks and admire the pure beauty of such a knife, the snap and W&T of these ol' girls is as good as the day they were given the nod by the quality control before they left the factory...I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I do..
Ulster, what a sleek wonder

Thanks again everyone, as I have said...I would have next to nothing if it wasnt for this Traditional forum, so as much as I cannot take credit, I can at least share with you guys, as I always love looking at everyones knives that are shown here.
HJ's rock!

Love that star shield, Roland. And the Ulster "spoon-bit" punches leather nicely.
It may have been intended as a gouge, but it makes a better punch.
Ruple proto.jpg
Bill Ruple made my first custom Harness Jack (above), very like yours Roland. It may be the first modern custom HJ ever, IIRC.
Then he made yours and a couple of others with star shields. I asked him to do the star shield, and he told me he had way more trouble making that shield than the punch!

Charlie, i thought my star shield Ruple HJ was initially yours. I didn't know that he had made others with the gouge like punch as i believe it was rather frustrating to make.
