Harness Jacks - Special Orders

Thanks, guys.

GEC is doing a fantastic job on the #85 series. The level of workmanship on my two examples is as flawless as any regular production knife in my experience, old or new: dialed-in pulls, centered blades, smooth action, great finish and tight as a frog's a**. They seem to get better with each passing year, which is quite an accomplishment in this day and age.

Super fine Primitive bone, Rick!! A real stunner!!

That rotten old crap is getting to me!

I'm going to bury some cows in my back yard for a few years, then see if GEC will turn them into knives like that one . . . . . . . . .Moooooooo!!!!!

Thanks, Charlie.

That rotten old crap is getting to me!

LMAO - I know exactly how you feel. :D

Whomever it was that envisioned a treasure trove in that old heap o' decomposing landfill had a stroke of brilliance; not to mention a real financial windfall. Talk about turning lead into gold.

Rick, the best of primitive bone is as good as it gets . . . and you are there!!:thumbup:

The parts for Harness Jack number 6 are in progress. These are blanks, before heat treating, waiting to be forged. The "hump" on the back of the blade gets forged over at 90 degrees, to form the "lift" to open the blade and the curve for cutting holes.

The model knife is in the mail back to me, but I have some pics somewhere . . . . . . . .I'll look. . . . . .

I feel the HJ seed growing inside of me...I won't keep it from blooming, especially if it turns into a clip/punch HJ on GEC's #66 frame...let alone if it comes in ebony...

It looks like the cat will just not stay in the bag! So I may as well tell the tale ;

It all started when a guy named Jim Parker managed to own W.R.Case and Sons for a brief time.
He fairly quickly decided to sell off (some say "loot") parts of the Factory Collection, in a vain attempt to stave off bankruptcy (alleged). These lovely knives were dispersed throughout the community, and this one was offered to me a number of years ago, to purchase. I still consider returning it to the Factory Collection, maybe when I am a little older, but for now I'll enjoy it.
It's a Case Tested XX 62074 1/2PU.

Here is a scan of the catalog for the sale auction. The (same) knife is the top one, of course.

The handle pattern is nearly identical to GEC's 66 serpentine pattern, which was part of the inspiration. GEC went to great lengths to come up with an authentic punch, improving it very slightly, to make an impressive knife. I'm feeling like this will be our best production/reincarnation of an antique knife, to date!

Charlie,
thank you. For the story, for the passion, and for the knife.
Oh, and forgive me for calling the cat outside the box
I'm no expert at all, but I love the design of the punch in the old Case. Depending on the scales, I'd sure love to get one of these. Hey, these HJ seeds do grow fast... :D

Man I'm sure glad you ended up with old Case Charlie. It would be a shame if it were salted away in someones collection with no prospect of future offspring. :grumpy:
I gotta tell you I really love the shape of that Case Clip blade, I hope GEC can copy it pretty close. What a beauty, this is going to be a great edition to your herd.
I have a good feeling about this HJ but GEC really put together a dandy with HJ #5, it has set the standard high!!
Can't wait....

Cats .. I tell ya! I hope GEC can match the color you have in mind for the jigged bone. Can't wait to add this one to my HJ collection! Nicely done Charlie .. yet again!

Speaking of colors, I have no idea of which color Charlie has chosen, and if the HJ6 will look like the Case...but this would look awesome with a punch:

Another fine HJ Charlie, looking forward to this one to add to my other HJ#'s

It would also be kind of neat, since the pattern is off an original Case, if they would use appaloosa bone, since Case used a variation of it also.

Here is a GEC example of appaloosa bone.
