C'mon guys, let's see a show of support (or not) on an EXTRA LARGE sized Harpy.

First, who else would like the chance at having a true full-size utility Harpy?

Second, which handle material would be important to you?

Maybe housed in the Endura FRN handle (or could the G-10 Military handle be properly adapted)?

Personally, having a steel such as the current VG-10 (which I like)is more of an issue than which direction the point sits in my pocket.

Count me in!! I've been after Sal to make a larger Harpy for use as a whitewater rescue knife, but it'd be a great utility piece also. You have to actually use a hawbill for general utility to appreciate what a great job it will do. FRN handle will do well enough, and help keep cost down, but a G-10 handle would be more usefull form an enhanced gripping standpoint. I'll take several of either one if it is produced.

Sounds good to me. I'd like one, if they get produced.

VG-10 is crucial. Everything else... G-10 handles would be nice, FRN is fine. If FRN, something other than black would be nice, but black is fine. Tip down would be nice, tip up would be fine.

Hell yeah!
I miss my G-10 harpy bad! (dont worry... I plan on getting another as soon as money allows and I can find one.)

A G-10 harpy with a 4 inch blade, no change in design of handle, just make the whole deal larger. (definatly in g-10 not FRN... black'd be my prefference, but colours would be okay too...)
Make it reversable for tip up/tip down carry.

I'd buy at least one, and would talk everyone I know to death about it, until they bought one too, just to shut me up. :D

Yes.. yes... good idea.

*off to take a cold showre* ;)

While I might be the only one who would find this to be a great option...

XL-HARPY in the 4"+ range done in VG-10 with a 50/50 edge.

I would strongly vote against FRN but would love G-10 or brushed Stainless.

Also with the increase in blade size there would be no problem moving to the 9/16"/14mm Diam. Blade Hole.

Add a bit of heft by moving to a blade thickness of 5/32" or 3/16"

Count me in for a couple:D

4" VG10 PE Harpy blade fitted to the s.s. handle of the Endura II (vented like the standard Harpy handle), reversible clip, lanyard hole, Boye Dent, larger opening hole.

Howdy, been collecting Spydies for about three months now. My buddy got me my first one on base at Fort Richardson, AK, and it was a SS handled ATS-55 Harpy. God, I loved that knife. It was stolen from my truck a few months ago... but just arranged a trade for a new one. I can't wait.

If I had a "Dream Spydie" I would LOVE one with a Cobalt based blade, around 4" blade length with a Ti handle. :) :p :) :p :) It would never rust or pit like my other knives (I fish in salt water) and such a blade (hook style) would cut through any line that got tangled up on deck!

I would spend some big $$$ on something like that, as it would fit my every need!

I know it is VERY unlikely such a thing will ever be, but, one can dream, right?

Spyderco... best production knives I've set my hands on... Keep it up!

I'm with you. Plain edge just a shade under 4", FRN handle would be fine. (Seems I requested this in my Larger Folders Wanted thread last month, but let's keep "harpying" on it.)

In reading another thread, I was reminded of the time Sal and his fine folks went out on a limb with a BF special run of the Matriarch. Even though highly sought-after now, their sales at the time didn't live up to expectations. It seems that many who expressed enthusiasm to purchase might not have followed-through.

If this concept would put a strain on Spyderco, or present some greater-than-usual risk...well, I'd say forget the whole thing. It would HAVE to be a success. So Sal, if the marketing-research doesn't support a larger-version Harpy, please let me know & I'll not bring it up again.

Hawkbill, good point on Spyderco going out on a limb and then not getting the sales. However, there are no large quality hawk bill knives on the market now. I think sales would be good.

I think a fixed hawk bill blade would sell well too. I know my wife would buy at least one. Some thing along the lines of the Moran and Perrin with a four to five inch blade.

I for one would be willing to pay a deposit up front for a larger G-10 Harpy. Pay the rest before delivery and get a refund if the project didn't work out.

If Sal wanted to fund some short run projects through a Spyderco Collectors Club, I'm sure everyone on this forum would sign up.

An extra large harpy? Wow, I'd rush out and not buy that!
 Sorry, they're just not my cup of tea at all.

I'm just not exactly sure what a hawkbill would be good for? Surely it is not a good utility shape...? I don't cut rope or net, but am attracted to the shape and the nice sharp point.

I have the Merlin in PE and would really like something a bit bigger. The FRN is fine with me and I like the light weight. I was going to get a Harpy but I don't particulary like SE and I was wondering how heavy in the pocket it rides. Wearing light weight docker type pants, I wouldn't want my pockets sagging.

I for one wouldn't mind putting in some up front money with the understanding that if the project didn't come to fruition then the money would be returned, or I could just get something else. Not like I don't have the wants for more Spyderco models.:p

The hawk bill blade is ideal for opening boxes and cutting cardboard.

The pioint is extremely sharp and can be used to remove splinters, cut articles from magazines, etc.

You'd be surprized how many tasks it works for once you start using one. It's a bit small for self defense so if you carry fot that reason you'll need to carry something else as well.

A larger Harpy would still excell at cardboard and rope while also making it more suitable for self defense.
