Harpy XL!!! Who's with me????

I don't have any problems with Zytel/FRN either. True, G-10 is nicer, but handle material is less important to me than the versatility offered by reversible left/right clips - which are usually offered by Spyderco on the Zytel handled models.
 
I like Sal's FRN and never had a problem with any of my knives sporting this handle. I would like to see some color other than black and would be getting at least two, one for me and one for my son to keep him from stealing mine. I like the barrel clip so that I can carry it as a second knife on the left side.

FRN is functionally OK but Sal spoiled me with the green G-10 handle on the Lil Temperance. I'd like to see a lot more Spyderco knives with the same material, especially colors besides black.
 
We've gone through this exercise several times now with similar results. No one has had a G10 failure, while a number of FRP catastrophic failures are reported, almost always lock failures in FRP/no-liner designs. Then again, considering how poor and unpredictable the material properties of FRP are (particularly in moist environments) when compared to G10, that's not surprising. Why take the chance when G10 is that much better - and available in alternate attractive colors as well?

I have yet to see one of those catastrophic Zytel/FRN failure reports you mention. Could you please provide a link to a page where they can be found?
 
BTW, I don't know about that no one has ever had a G-10 failure crap. :rolleyes: There are plenty of cases where G-10 knives have failed. If it's a folder, it can fail.

Especially if it is (mis)used as something other than a knife - like a crowbar, for instance. I'm really interested in any documented cases in which a folder (particularly one made by Spyderco) failed due to its Zytel handle, while being deployed in a reasonable way.

Could I suggest that you start a new post on FRN versus G-10 rather than confuse people who are expecting a post on the Harpy XL aka SpyderHawk?

Being new to the forum, I'm not to sure of the rules regarding chaing subjects, but it does appear that roshi is on target about a different thread for a FRN vs G10 discusion - primarily because it seems to me that that detail has already been determined - Sal answered it fairly clearly in an earlier post

I'm still waiting on this one. Kept my eye on it for a while, even the OLD post/poll as to who wanted one...

I'd love a 4" hawkbill with plain edge... that would be something to see...
 
SpyderHawks are here and shipping next week. Endura FRN handle, fully serrated 3-5/8" (92mm) VG-10 hawkbill blade.

Created as the result of one Distributor's request and the requests from the Spyderco forumites.
