Harpy XL!!! Who's with me????

Sal,

That name is all yours to use, I just want the opportunity to buy one if you produce them.

HawkBill found me a Camillus Hawk but as he has noted in previous posts it is a nice knife but no where near the quality and ergonomics of a Harpy.

I'd vote for VG-10 for the blade. I just got one of your Perrin bowies and that is superb steel. The Perrin is beautifully balanced. A perfect trail, light self defense, or kitchen knife.

Sal,

I'm in for a bunch of them if produced. Would be even more ideal whitewater rescue knife! Talk with you at Blade.

beautiful!
I think it could only be good for Spyderco in the end. No new tooling is neccesary for a new handle. Pre-extisting handle/clip and blade steel stock can be used, only a different profile is being cut out.
And if sales don't look so hot, you can drop the hawk profile, and there will be another 'rare' small run model out there that people will be seeking for years to come.

I'm in.

Ken

Sal,

I'm glad to see that there's genuine interest in the "Spyderhawk" on your part! Several of us on this and the Spyderco board have been wishfully commenting on the possibility, but it's been more fantasy than reality directed.

I'm definitely another firm buyer should the project go to fruition. I can't believe that a high-quality version of this knife, even at a reasonably high price, would not be a great seller.

I would love to see a G-10 Handled, larger Harpy. I'd also like to see it in S/S, but without the "vents" in the handle.

Jeff/1911.

Could the Stainless Steel handled version have some sort of texture added at the factory?
Something like chequering, or even rolled engraving, just something to make it less slippery?
Because I'm mean and poor and can't afford engraving :(

The "SpyderHawk" (Thanx Roshi) is in the works as a test run. Endura handle / VG-10 blade. We'll make at least 1200 serrated pieces in the first run, then we'll "Hide 'n watch" reaction before we consider more of the same or variations.

I would prefer to avoid a black handle. Any input on colors?

sal

Great to hear Spyderco will 'test waters' on this!
I'm hoping for black, but second suggestion would be for
the same dark grey of the first run Matriarchs(for those
who collect, it would compliment the whole hawkbill family IMO).

Ken

That's great news, Sal. As far as colors go, grey is nice, as suggested by Ken, but green and blue would be cool too, IMO.

Leo

Great news Sal!! I would say either a medium blue or a dark green. How will these 1200 be sold? I would love to get a couple of them.

Sal,

Green or grey if it won't be black. Thanks a bunch for putting this into production!! I'll definitely see this gets some attention as a whitewater rescue knife.

My choices would be blue, green, or gray.

I assume we'll find out here on the forum when the SpyderHawk is available to order.
