Has anyone ever had a defective Swiss Army Knife?

Lost count how many I've had over the last 50 or so years. Lost a few, gave away a bunch
Other than some very light blade rub on a couple never had what you would call a defect.
If only the auto manufactures were this good!!!!

Well I had a Swiss card light break on me, but it may have my own fault.
It went through the washer and dryer multiple times, and was being sat on in my wallet constantly by my skinny butt for about 2-3yrs and I had a habit of plopping myself down on the couch.

Not a defect of manufacture as such but I have a Swisschamp that wsd so gunged up wi th h crud and age it was impossible to open .After some rehab it just ok.

I actually have a SAK with a manufacturing defect. The awl on one of my SwissChamps was machined improperly. I bought about 50 SAKs before spotting a defect.

Hi guys, I think my Victorinox has a problem: when i close the small blade, the separator (which is placed on the left side of the small blade) moves and hits the tip of the closed large blade.

Do you think this issue can be warranty covered?
Thanks.

If it's a manufacturing defect Vic will cover it. They have very good (but sometimes slow) warranty service.

Thank you Rich, I think it is a manufacturing defect because in all Saks that component is unmovable and when i close the small blade the movement is not perfectly smooth

After reading this thread from the beginning, I'll put on my $0.015 cents worth.
I currently own four Victorinox SAK's.
1 Recruit (roughly 5 years)
1 Huntsman* (roughly 16 years)
1 "Signature"* (roughly 16 years)
1 Classic (gifted to me late last year)

The Huntsman and Signature came as a "Christmas Pack" set, if memory serves, from Target. My then employer got a set for everyone in the company.
Both have the translucent red covers.
I've carried the Huntsman for EDC pretty much constantly over the 12 or 13 years I was at our Idaho location. The only time I carried my Western "Demo" knife was on the days I needed an inline awl. The Signature almost as long, on my key ring.
I've never noticed any defects or problems with either one, other than having to drip a little oil on the Signature's pen slide every few years, but that probably falls under "maintenance" rather than a defect or problem. Amazingly, the pen still works!!!
(good thing too, since the only replacements I can find are for the 93mm knives.)

The Recruit was only carried for about 1 of the 5 years I drove a truck. When I did not carry it, I carried a Marbles rendition of the old Camillus 1760 "Demo" knife.
I never had any problems with the Recruit, other than the lack of an awl.

I have no idea how many Victorinox and Wenger SAK's I had since 1960/1961, when I got my first knife at age 5 or 6. (I think my first knife was a 4 blade "Scout" knife, maybe an Ulster or Imperial? It did not have a red handle, so I know it was not a SAK.) At any rate, I had several SAK's,since then, all with the red plastic handles. I've probably lost in excess of 20 of them, as a kid, and after.
I never had a scale come off, or even get loose. I've never had a SAK blade or tool develope any play, or break.

While I do carry other knives, (such as a stockman or Barlow) a 93 mm SAK or a 4 blade "Scout Knife" is always in my pocket, no matter what else I have on me.

In answer to Mr. Black's question, I have never heard of or seen a defective SAK, be it by Victorinox or Wenger.

Carried my pioneer since August and used/slightly abused it. No wobble, great snap, remarkable. Not sure another knife I own could have handled the duty.

Not may favorite knife but undeniably excellent.

I’ve owned a few SAKs and never an issue.

Sorry to have missed the reappearance of this old thread until now. Good use of pics there  I've seen this happen with SAK copies and inexpensive Scout knives (ie Richards, Imperial), but not on a Victorinox before. Yeah, the warranty will definitely cover it. One word of warning, if the knife has sentimental value, make sure they understand you want the fault REPAIRED. Otherwise, they'll most likely swap it for a replacement knife

The only “defect” I have seen in all the SAKs I have had is one I picked up recently that had the shield on the wrong side. Other than that, nothing.

Thank you Jack Black! I was uncertan if send it to Victorinox or not because I was fearing Victorinox could say it's a minor defect which doesn't affect the usability of the multitool and deny the warranty.
No problem for me if they replace the whole knife instead of fixing the issue.

Not sure where you're based vdr, but I think they usually ask you to return the knife to their regional/national agent. I had a Wenger World Scout knife where the pin came out of the scissors. I contacted Victorinox, and they told me to return it to their distributor, who simply replaced the knife. Unfortunately, it was missing the 'World Scout Knife' etch which had been on the main blade of the original :(

I might as well chime in here. I counted the other day and currently own 174 Swiss Army Knives, almost all of them purchased used (some very used). I don't know how many of the defects I've seen came from the factory, but I've seen quite a few defects. I've also had a number of them apart, and if you've never done so, do it some time. They are are marvel of manufacturing shortcuts.

I have sent it to Victorinox, let's see what happens.:D
They send me back my Victorinox. They didn't fix the problem. :(:(:(:thumbsdown::thumbsdown:
They only replaced the scales with brand new ones. Probably they didn't read my message I left in the box.
They didn't charge me any price.
Draw your own conclusions. ;)
