Hats & Knives

My sister visited from WA for a week last Summer. About a month after she went back, I got a box in the mail with a hat in it. Evidently, she thinks I should be wearing a Stetson instead of my old ball caps. It's still in the closet, in the box. I don't know where I'd wear something that nice.:)
Her next visit.is when it will magically appear......😜.....on your melon.....👌

It'd make her happy anyway...😉

It is a very nice wool Fedora style. I see them worn around here all the time. It'd be good sun or rain protection, but it's just not my style at all. I'm either wearing a wool hat pulled down over my ears in the Winter; or a ball cap in the Summer. I'm just an old codger, set in my ways, I guess. Maybe if I'd wear the darn thing I might actually like it.:)

If someone gifted me a Stetson I would wear it every chance I could

I know. If it had been a stupid $5 ball cap, it would probably be on the hook by the back door, and seeing daily use. But I won't wear a $200+ hat? That doesn't make much sense, does it?
Besides, if I wasn't wearing some worn out, dirty, free giveaway ball cap, nobody around here would even recognise me.:)

Special occasion use. Nice looking hat

Yeah...if one doesn't look good in that, they should stay home 😛
Hey! I resemble that remark.:)

It used to be that every time we had a few days off, we'd be going someplace new. Either on the motorcycle, in the car, camping, backpacking, whatever. Now; sometimes when we just go to the grocery store, I can't wait to get home. I guess my people filter's full. It's good that we live out in the sticks.

Anyway, here's a pic of today's knife & hat, to keep things on track.

And.......I just dug it out, and decided to wear it on our daily walk. It might stay out, or it might go back in the box.

If I had that I'd wear it every day! I did a search and found out they cost a bit more than I can justify, though. :( Guess I'll have to stick with my LLBean wool felt crushers.

(I see yours is a medium -- any idea what number hat size it fits?)

Stetson's chart says Medium fits size 7-7 1/8. I just measured my head & that looks about right. Mine's a Sturgis model, and runs about $115. And yeah, that's pretty steep for someone like me, who's used to wearing manufacturer give-away ball caps, or wool beanies knitted by my wife.

Thanks! I couldn't find the Stetson size chart, just need to look harder I guess!

Back when I was working, I would take pride that I never paid more than $5 for a hat. I sweat a lot and tend to be hard on summertime hats. A coworker once gave me a straw Bailey cowboy hat that was probably a $50-$60 hat. It was a great hat and I got many years of use out of it. My current mowing or messing around in the yard hat is this $16 Atwood. I recently had to glue the sweat band back in. It may only have a year or two left in it. Its been a great hat for the price, but the difference in quality between it and the Bailey has been evident.

A couple of years ago I went to buy another Atwood, but Larry (of Larry's Boots fame) didn't have any, so I bought my first-ever genuine Stetson 🤠
Cost me all of $26 and its currently the most expensive hat I own 💰 Its mostly been my going to the steam engine show hat.

It doesn't say where it was made, but given its price and the fact that its well made, like a Stetson should be, I suspect Mexico. It doesn't matter, I just like to know 🤓

Check out the secondary market you'll find a lot of unwanted gifts and wrong size bought.
Nothing wrong with a second hand hat, easy to steam clean and bash.

For felt hats I would recommend a hat keeper, stretcher for not in use. I'm giving a favorite a stretch.

Mike that top 1 too big a holes my bald nogging would get burnt. I sweat a lot too. I can go through a couple of hats/caps a day in hot weather. I've done a lot of experimenting when when the sweat band comes away. 1 thing I did like was the wrist sweat bands, cut its flat and velcro it in your hat.😁

Getting cooler here, my stetson explorer, I had shipped from the states many years ago.
From what I understand stetson is owned by Dorfman Pacific. They own the license to Scala, Biltmore and others.
