Is the forged ebony weightier than the usual no.8?

vs No. 8 Beechwood, forged is about 16 g heavier 58g vs 42g.

About 30 seconds after I posted this, an incredibly kind fellow user messaged me, pointing me to an online store that had exactly one left in stock. So, hopefully, pretty soon, I'll be able to post a pic of my very own!

Was this a re-release or the 'next' batch?

I had posted before regarding my Opinel where I couldn't find US online dealer...Didn't realize more were being released!

I have no idea, but I assume it's a new batch (just given the timing with the email I got direct from Opinel this morning).
Either way, I would not have mine en route, were it not for the quick-thinking kindness of E Elgatodeacero !

These were sold by Opinel with the representation that only 500 would be available in the USA. I think they might have a problem if they whip up a another batch.

I can’t get over how nice this knife is, and the ebony handle just takes it to another level of class and cool.

So, I received mine (in blazingly fast fashion)!
Without going into details, I have decided not to keep it.
So, I will sell it to someone for exactly what I paid ($100 + tax + shipping = $115) plus a few bucks to cover shipping.
So, if there is someone who wants mine, send me a PM.

No.8 size is just the perfect fit.........had a No.6 taken off me by the French border control recently, but easy enough to get another.!

I think I’ve found my new favorite Opinel size: the No. 13! Very practical, handy for all sort of tasks, and surprisingly pocket-friendly.

Ok, maybe not so much. But it’s still pretty cool. I’ve been wanting one of these for a while, missed out on one at the Oregon show in the spring (saw it on my first walkthrough when the vendors were still setting up, should’ve grabbed it because it was gone when I went back 20 minutes later).

Just picked up this set. Carbon steel. I’ve never been very good at determining the age of Opinels, but I think these are from the 80s or 90s.

I thought the included booklet was interesting, even though I can’t read it, because I don’t speak French.

I’ve been trying to find some older Opinels recently. Here are a couple I got this past week. Dating Opinels can be a bit tough, but the best I can figure, the No. 10 Billhook is from the 1980s, while the No. 7 was made in the 1950s or early 60s.

There is a chart that details all the changes to operation and logos, etc on Opinels over the years. Somebody on this forum probably has a link. I thought I had it saved somewhere, but it’s probably on a defunct computer. I would venture that your No7 is newer than you think. My oldest 7, bought around 1977 or 1978, has a carbon steel ferrule and lock ring, as does my oldest No.10.

That’s the only info I’ve found on dating Opinels, and it’s what I used to estimate the ages on the two knives I just got. Unfortunately I don’t know where the chart is from or who put it together. I found it online at some point.

That’s the one. Obviouslyy recollection is fuzzy.

Opinel has a new limited edition in the works, the Opinel No.10 Shiori. US release date is listed as June. It will be limited to 2100 copies worldwide with 200 allocated to the US.
