Have you ever bought a knife because of youtube

Oh yea I love you tube reviews I have bought several knifes because of the review that I did not intend to buy. And most the time worked out good. Nutinfancy is a good revewer as is a lot of others

I bought my Spyrdero Byrd knives based on the reviews by Nutnfancy. I haven't been disappointed.

Never.
I often look at videos and reviews of knives that interest me...and sometimes I buy them anyway - despite, not because of, those things.

I made the final decision to buy my Adamas after watching Vininull's torture test. He put that knife through hell, then tried to break, and it survived.

I have also chosen not buy knifes based off of YT reviews. Most notably, I decided against a Spyderco Tenacious after seeing how it has no protection for the user's fingers when it is being closed.

My usual routine is I find a knife I like on the forums because of the praise it's getting, order it, then watch youtube reviews of it as I wait impatiently for it to arrive.

Funny you mention the tenacious. Right after getting it, the first time I closed it I hit my finger. Not hard or anything, but definitely am careful closing it after that.

So much good information on YouTube!

Yes and no...

A lot of the knife "reviewers" are more or less knife fondlers and don't see how they can give an honest review without using it. Their comments on the looks and build quality are one thing, but how the knife feels in their hand doesn't mean it's going to feel the same in mine so I take their comments with a grain of salt.

I don't watch too many, but feel that Randy Johnson is one of the most genuine and unbiased out of those I've seen. Comes across as a genuinely nice guy and not arrogant like some.

No. But I have purchased a knife because of comments made on BF. The Kabar Becker BK-2 and Fallkniven F1 are examples. The BK-2 was a pretty useless knife for me after I got over the... wow this is cool period....

To be honest, I very seldom look at U Tube videos unless there is a link here. It simply is not part of my research path.

I have 100%. Once I got into the knife hobby I stumbled on Jim Skelton and gktii. Long story short, i've owned a Curtiss F3, Greg Lightfoot Full Contact Fighter, Hoback Kwaiback Midtech, and have a Direware on the way. Reason was because, I watch these videos at work (very relaxed work place) and while I glimpse at the screen, a particular knife will catch my eye while watching one of their videos.

Jim Skelton alone has been the cause of me spending a lot of money on knives, and so far every one I have bought off of his assesment has been stellar and pretty much what he described, even if I didnt hold onto it long. I dont use Youtube so much as a "what should I buy next", more so a, to see whats out there and to be able to see high quality video of it. I could go on AZcustomknives and look at pictures, but I dont connect with pictures as much as I do with a 20 min long video of a knife.

Typically, if I see a knife on one of those channels and it peaks my interest, ill do futher research on the knife, maker, etc... Then I will make my decision. But I can safetly say that Youtube has caused me to purchase knives.

Definitely, along with online "research". My favorite is virtuovice. Half are not great, their idea of a review is just listing specs off the sheet/site and a useless "awesome knife" opinion.

O Yes!

It is my cherished L51 Flipper made By Andre Thorburn.
I saw a LSCF version, then looked all over and found one left on AZCK. Now I am a happy Owner of a Andre Van Heerden Framelock with Inlay LSCF Too. Hope I can get an A2a3 in the Future.

There is a guy on there goes by Jim Skelton . He has an amazing collection.

He has done great revews on many knives from Flippers to OTFs as well. Picked up a Microtech or two because of that, and hope to get a Begg and that Highly sought after ZT 0777.

No, not solely from a youtube video, but based partly on information gathered from a youtube video.

Same as others have said. Haven't bought a knife because of youtube, but have used it to get more info on the ones I'm interested in. Can't say I have a favorite reviewer, though there are some whose opinions I value more than others.

Guilty -- sort of. My recent interest in knives pretty much got kick-started by watching a Nutnfancy video on Opinel and Svord Peasant knives (the Opinels got me). I didn't jump onto Amazon immediately after watching the video (and so far I've never done that with any knife or multi-tool), but I did do more research (and Yes, that includes watching other YT vids) on knives -- including particular models that interested me.

So Nutnfancy, Nicestknives, Late Boy Scout, CutleryLover, BudgetBugout, and others . . . Their YT videos DO HELP in my checking out blades that interest me

I know he's a big goofy dude (and he's the first one who will tell you that), but I still like Nutnfancy. He may be long-winded, but he's still very informative. I've purchased my share of HOF (Hall of Fame) blades over the years. The other reviewers I like are Virtuovice and Hickok45 (both mentioned) and Solos Knife Reviews, MrDagoon007, Stefan Schmalhaus, MrRampro, TheApostleP, and others...

Nope. I do watch videos just so I can get a good 360 degree view of it as opposed to a few pics on a website. I no longer subscribe to any knife reviewers on youtube. If I'm interested in a knife, I'll search youtube and watch a few reviews on it.

I've used to a lot when first getting into knives. I found Spyderco to have the best knives for the value for my uses, and I still do. I occasionally still check on there if there's a new knife I'm interested in, but I don't really buy completely based on those reviews.

I'll watch videos of knives if I saw one online that interests me to get an idea of what it looks like in hand. I usually use a combination of forum reviews, site reviews, and youtube reviews if I'm going to order something though. YouTube either peaks my interest in a blade or gets rid of it. It doesn't really decide for me. I also like watching video reviews of knives I already own so I can compare my opinions with those of the reviewer. I'm a lefty, so video reviews give me an idea of if the knife is lefty friendly if pictures aren't enough.

In New Zealand, many of the knives that are so popular on this forum can only be found in one or maybe two stores in one of the main cities quite far from where I live. I have come to rely on youtube reviews to help me get a sense of what I am buying online, either from these shops I mentioned, or from exporters in the USA. So far I have bought my Kershaw Talon II, a Rajah III and Kizlyar Phoenix II based on my initial perceptions of their POU being backed up by tube reviewers.

When ordering locally, I usually strike a deal with the stores - letting them know I have only seen the knife on the net, and agreement is only struck once the knife is in my hand. They don't mind as long as I pay courier fees each way. So far I haven't had to send anything back, but I do have SOG Twitch II coming - and based on the reviews, I am going to love it or hate it...... Watch this space!
