Have you ever bought two of the exact same knives? Why?

I have bought multiples of 5 knives. The reason I bought multiples is I just found them to be so perfect for me that I wanted a backup (or two in a few cases) in case I ever lost one. Three are Spyderco: PM2, Yojimbo 2, and Street Beat. I just find the PM 2 and Yo 2 to be perfect EDC blades and the Street Beat to be a perfect EDC fixed blade. I also have two Brous Silent Soldier neck knives because they are really handy. And I have two Busse TGLBs because it is an awesome knife, probably my overall favorite knife of all time.

Wow. Yes, I have many duplicates, especially if I have a knife I love and find out its being discontinued. Bought a second Umnum when the original pivot was being discontinued. Multiple X-24s, and 18s. One set is for use, and has black scales. The other set have orange scales, fancy lanyards, fancy standoffs, etc, for collectability/pimping. I have 2 Rockstead Higos, because when I bought the first one, I fell completely in love, and bought a second because of how scarce they are. Still one of the most amazing items I own, in any category. Sometimes I'll end up selling the nicer one of a duplicate set, to buy something else.

To me it comes down to this: If a Glock is a good idea, a second one is just as good of an idea, assuming the financial part isn't a problem. Spares mean spare parts. It means if one is being serviced, the other one is still at the ready. It means being able to have the same tool in two places at once, for either convenience or emergency. With knives, sometimes I'm just so pleased with some new interpretation, or a tried and true design, of the oldest tool in the world, that I buy a second simply out of principle.

Often buy 3 -- one for me and one for each of my sons. Sometimes two for them, and not me, sometimes two of one kind and one of another (e.g. one son does a lot of outdoors where a fixed blade is appropriate, other son needs folders to conceal....)

Also, a few "keep around utility designs" like a couple of the old Camillus military type, inexpensive, I will buy two or three to spread around between toolbox, workbench, and backpack or desk....

For a short time I bought 2 of each so that I could use one and keep one in mint condition. Then for me I found this to be sorta silly as having the back up wasnt going to stop the user from getting beat up and having the mint condition knife in the safe only tied up funds that I could have for other knives. These days I only buy one of anything but I only have one or two knives that arent super expensive that I keep for users.

Yes I have duplicates of knives and there are a few knives I have that I want duplicates for. Usually I buy duplicates if I know the knife is going to be discontinued or already is. If it is not discontinued then sometimes I buy two still, but if I think it is going to stay in production for quite some time then I will just buy a second one when the first one starts to get really worn out. I also buy duplicates for knives that might just be in a different variation. I have two Kershaw Leeks in Blue Smoke as I use the first one and I just love the look of it and I know it is discontinued. I also have two Delica 4's even though one is saber ground and one is FFG. The handles are also different colors as well.

I've had a few Sage 2's and Gayle Bradleys. I keep trading them because they're a pretty good value for barter but I always want another.
I have several Paramilitary 1's. I just love them.
Two Tasman salts PE and SE
My son has almost every Spyderco ladybug because he has been collecting them since he was 5.
Other knives I have bought twice because I lost, sold, or traded then wanted again.
3 Sebenzas but all different. Sm insingo, large right, large left.
I have a few of the same leatherman kicks. For me the kick is the best multi tool. Everything I use, nothing I don't except the can opener. They've been discontinued but are still available pretty cheap so I pick another up every now and then. Good gifts too.

I have had 6-7 Imperial Magic knives

4-5 Funny Folders

4 Delta Zs 360° Knives

2 Gerber CF SL 3.25 liner locks

2 AG Russell's One Hand Knife

2 Cold Steel Large Twistmaster

2 Camillus drop point lock backs

4 Gerber Silver Knights

6 Blackie Collins Joggin' Buddys Thumbolt neck knives

2 of the original all steel Cold Steel Urban Pals

2 Boker model 200 Canoes

Multiple Spyderco mini bug series

I'm sure I have more multiples I just can't remember without looking.

I don't buy multiples for any other reason than coincidence or a good deal with the exception of the Joggin' Buddy's, SL 3.25 Gerbers and the AG Russell's. The Blackie Collins knives were all different colors and at the time cheap and the other two were bought as replacements for misplaced knives I later found and because of that I have 2 of each.

There is one other exception, the SAK Classic I have about 8 of those because they're great knives, reasonably priced and there's a large selection of different scales for the same model.

Depending on condition, I will buy any BM AFCK or CQC7B I can find. The 800 & 900 series knives are always in demand and a couple of my
all-time favorites.

I have bought duplicates but only rarely. Usually it's due to one of two things. The model is of limited production and having a second one assures me that should I loose or damage the first one I have a backup since I can't buy another one or I have a NIB to sell at a later date if I so desire. The other reason has been that I just like the knife so well I want a spare. I've only bought duplicates twice as far as I can recall so neither situation is common for me.

If I could afford it, I'd have two or three of each knife I own. I mean, why not? Knives can get lost, be stolen or break. It's nice to have a replacement at hand. I also enjoy carrying two identical knives one on each side.

Since it wouldn't be financially feasible for me to buy multiples of every single one of my knives, I only do it when I can get a good deal or when it's a model that has recently been discontinued.

I have a lot of knives that I have multiple versions of, but other than mistakes, the only knives that I've bought multiples of the EXACT same knife are Kershaw Leeks, Kershaw Blurs and Spyderco Delicas. Why those? Because they are my knives that I hand out as presents to friends who don't have a knife. I always keep at least one extra of each. None are expensive, but all are good quality, solid knives. I've given at least five of each away over the last few years.

I've done that often; usually because I'm impressed by the new "super-steel." I had five 2013 Spyderco Forum knives; now have one I'll keep. Many, many PM2's, Sebenzas, Techno's, Gayle Bradley's, Brad Southards, Tuffs, Striders of all sorts.
It gets weird, because I don't carry any of these. I always carry my Zaan, which replaced a large Classic Sebbie, and am now "experimenting" with my new TAD Dauntless. The rest? I sell 'em or trade 'em off. I enjoy "gifting" to relatives, deployed military, and young, needy LEO's. I have almost nothing left.
I am enamored by custom fixed blades with nice steels, including Damascus, and nice wood grips. I have no use for these things, but love them. Not a very good businessman; I'm always worried about the next credit-card bill. :)

Just a few for low budget ones for gifting purposes
CRKT Drifter (2)
CRKT Centofante Tribute bought and gifted like three of these
Mini grips (2 for myself I don't like them that much but I have to own them, I have no idea why lol)
Rough Rider Sawcut (2)

Also looking for a UKPK right now.

I have way to many of 2 of a kind plus there are a 'few' of the 3 & 4 floating around also.!** But mine are just Safe Queens that take up space in my Safes.* My 2 Sons will get them when I am gone and sell them for a Penny on the Dollar knowing them ( now if it was my 2 Step-Sons they would try to get all they could out of them and keep a few.! )
We live and we learn but do nothing about it until it is to late.^

I used to buy multiples, but with all the small runs of Super steels the makers use, Id rather just buy one and buy more models that turn my crank. I do buy box cutters by the box(I sell these to non-knife folks who need a knife), and have a stash of the same model of sunglasses though, lol.

When ZT comes out with the 801 with M390 and some CF(I can't remember the model #), it's a knife I'll buy more than one, and some Military's I'll buy multiples, but it's a good SiCKness!!!

Never two of the exact same, but I do have two versions of Spyderco Dragonfly 2 (salt and G10) and two versions of mini grip (555 and 556) and, tho both were gifts, I carry both my model 1 & 2 Rat's.

I have to CRKT ripples... I lost one and then bought a replacement, then found the one I lost! Haha

Yes... I bought 3 PM2's in different flavors because it is such a great knife. I bought 2 left handed Spyderco Military's becuse I loved the first and head they were going to be discontinued... I have also bought multiple Tenacious, Delica's and Endura's...
