Have you ever bought two of the exact same knives? Why?

Often buy 3 -- one for me and one for each of my sons. Sometimes two for them, and not me, sometimes two of one kind and one of another (e.g. one son does a lot of outdoors where a fixed blade is appropriate, other son needs folders to conceal....)

Also, a few "keep around utility designs" like a couple of the old Camillus military type, inexpensive, I will buy two or three to spread around between toolbox, workbench, and backpack or desk....

Same. I buy two or three of the same if they are for me fairly inexpensive and good users. I like buying multiples of cheap beater knives but I've even bought a couple of more expensive ones that Spyderco Resilience (not that it's an expensive knife to begin with.

Mora's, SAK's, multi tools, Cold Steel Voyagers, Ontario Rat 2. All are inexpensive and often get bought in multiples by people with an outdoor interest. Because of their utility\reputation\low cost end up getting tossed into back packs, glove boxes, trunks etc. And at times forgotten about. Inexpensive multiples are a nice back up to a main knife or axe.

I have got three Kershaw Boa, two Kershaw Spec Bumps 3D G10 and two Kershaw Spec Bumps Ti handle (both blue :( ), couple of new BM 805 blue/black 3D G10, three Delicas Super Blue, couple of HK Nitrous Blitz, three Endura 4 zdp 189, two Spyderco Chokwe... Have got also some multiple Spyderco Lum Chinese Folder and BM Mini Onslaughts - but those with various blade steels and handle colors/materials, so would not count here as the same knife.
Why? Why not: they are great knives, why limit yourself with one!

I buy my Beckers in multiples, normally because I will have one for strippin' and the other for not strippin'. I also have my EDC Beckers set up depending on whether I am wearing light or dark colours.

i have gotten to where i wont buy a folding knife unless it is a highish quality limited edition. if it isnt just a new color of something i already have and i would like to use it I always buy two. one for use and one for the safe.

Three Benchmade Model 710's: One M2HS, One ATS-34, and the last D-2......I love the recurve. Does a Spydderco Manix 2 and a Manix 2XL count as the 'same" knife? hmmmmmm.....

I often buy 2 or 3 of the same cheap knife. I like to keep a cheapie in the glove box of each car. Sometimes they are for gifts to non-knife people. Considering my most expensive knife is the BK2 I received as a gift, I'm a big fan of cheap knives myself.

The first one because you really like the model, and the second because the first one was too pretty to bang up in its current condition.

Absolutely.

If I find a knife that really suits me I want a backup if the first needs to go for repairs.

I have a whole bunch of Svord Mini Peasants for modding and generally messing around with... does that count?

I have 4 or 5 Victorinox Huntsman models, 2 Spyderco Tenacious models, Two Kershaw Zings and two Kershaw Cyclones.
Plus duplicates of various other SAKs and also Leatherman Micras mostly due to ebay knife lot-sales.
And of course CS throwing Hawks and throwing knives, usually multiples of three.
Then there is Mora duplication (mostly Clippers) and Tramontina Machete duplication.
I also have three or four 14 inch Fiskars axes because they are just so handy AND because Canadian Tire used to have 50% off sales on Fiskars semi-regularly.
If i like a model of knife/axe i like to have a spare just in case.
However I can't afford to have dupes of more expensive knives.

I have Cold Steel Trailmasters in SK-5 as well as San Mai III. I will probably get one in O-1. If I ever find one for a decent price, I will buy a stag model as well. I think they are fantastic fixed blade knives.

I like the Southard a lot, and pretty much want to carry it all the time. Buying multiples of them lets me still feel like I'm changing things up everyday by carrying a different one:

Love for a particular knife, back up for a user, mental illness... Usually some combination of those reasons.

I bought two Kershaw Crowns - and posted about it here earlier - as for the price they looked like a good way to try out micarta scales, and it's an attractive knife in its own right. I bought a second because the first has an irreparable (by me) issue with the "pip" on the lock bar, and for $10... why not.

I love the good one, so it all worked out. Might even buy another just because.

I did get an offer from Kershaw to send the bad one back, and I may, but I'm actually carrying it now as all my other knives are being sharpened.
