Have you Ever given a knife away?

I've given away a lot of knives over the years and the recipients were always happy to have them. I am known among my friends/family as "the Knife guy*", so when they are looking at a new knife, they generally ask me for advice. Sometimes I'm able to get them the knife they really wanted for a birthday gift or Christmas gift before they get a chance to get it. Always like seeing a friend or family member happy.

*Well, and the Car guy, and the Gun guy, and the Cigar guy, and so on.

I've given several to friends and at least 6-7 here at BF. Always feels good to give a knife away. I don't want a pat on the shoulder, but the last knife I gave away, not a peep from the new owner even after I asked if it got their OK. That's just courtesy to let someone know they received the gift.

just gave my youngest son age 32, a CRK small sebenza with spirograph damascus blade I'd bought on ebay and didn't care for the blade. he loves it!!!
Couple yrs ago I gave a good friend a william henry edc 6 and a year later an employee of his stole it................

CRK, Spyderco, Snody, Strider.... I've gifted a few. Feels good and unclutters my knife space so it looks more like a hobby instead of the habit it really is:)

Yes I gave the young girl that is my oldest horsemanship student a Byrd Cara Cara rescue knife when she turned 13. I thought since she was around horse's and ropes a lot she should learn how to respect and use the tool properly. I felt really proud to be the first to give he a decent (for a 13 yo) working knife.

I gave a SOG Twitch II to a young lady headed to college this past summer. I have gifted knives more than a few times. I sometimes feel that they are going to look it up and see what it's worth versus focusing on the sentiment of gifting.

Yes, quite a few...to friends, relatives, deployed military and younger (broke) LEO's. ...and to a few "unknown" folks. I'm pretty particular who I give to. I don't give anymore to a "lucky number" on a post. I get no enjoyment from that, and I've been fooled a time or two. And, I don't have enough money to throw it away.

I gave a SOG x-42 Recondo and a Benchmade LFTi to a friend for his birthday.
Gave my nephews BM 510's, my brother in law, too, come to think of it.
A BM 710-3 in a GCA over on the USN.
My ex has my zdp-189 Blur.
Went through a bunch of Buck s30v Vantages a couple of years ago--stocking stuffers for Xmas.

For people that have only ever carried a 20 dollar knife, it's a pretty big deal. Of course, I often get hit up to do the resharpening. Never having dealt with a good steel before, they think they don't know how to sharpen any more. But, I enjoy sharpening.

I've given the most knives to my son, a Grip, Pacific salt, HK 14205 and many more less expensive knives.
I also have given my step son, 2 son in laws and my grandson Grips.
My oldest son in law also has a Hk 14205 he edcs I gave him.
Gave away a Kabar Dozier folder here on the forums to a kid that had lost his only knife.

A few guys I work with like to give me crap for looking at knives during my breaks. Gave them all opinels for Christmas this year and now they're hooked too!

We give away a knife every week through our social media pages. It is usually a Kershaw but sometimes something bigger. I think giving people a knife is one of the greatest things you can do. Several reasons we do it:

A. I think a knife given to someone is appreciated more, thus carried more.

B. Once that person starts to carry a decently made knife they understand why having a good knife is so important, and they spread the word.

C. For us it just helps us promote.

Yep a few.
Barrage 580 to my brother
Pink handled Leek to his lady
Tenacious to my GF
SOG Flash 1 and a Leek to my Dad
Delica to Mum for her purse
Delica for my uncle when he retired sold his house and headed off in his new motor home
Nice VG10 chefs knives for Dad and 2 aunties
and several cheapies and used SAKs to friends/co-workers.

Why? I wanted to. They're worth it. Everyone needs a nice EDC blade, even if they don't realize it yet.

Reaction from males is typically, "cool, a knife" with gratitude and an obvious recognition of its purpose and usefulness.

From ladies, "umm, thank you. It's a ... pocket knife ..." with gratitude but apparent confusion as to why I am giving them a knife.

Reaction from Dad and aunties to the chefs knives "the sharpest kitchen knife I have ever used!" I had carefully re-profiled and sharpened them on the Wicked Edge and they came up extremely sharp.

For all family members and a few friends I also take care of sharpening for them. My Mum has by far the sharpest cutting tool at her stitch and chat group :)

It makes me feel good, it's the least I can do for them.

I have given away almost as many as I have kept. Once I've tried one out, if it doesn't make it into the edc rotation, why not give it to someone who can put it to use.

It was a knife giving Christmas, thanks to USAMadeBlade.com! ZT0550, ZT0770, Kershaws, Calton Chef's Knives and a Fiddleback Runt.

Given away

4 Kabar Fin Fixed Blades,
1 Kabar USMC,
1 CRKT Ultima,
1 CRKT Ignitor,
1 Mantis Chaos Tactical Fixed in 154cm,
1 Mora Campanion,
1 Svord Peasant Knife,
1 CRKT Kaiyuh,
and several others

I only give knives to people I like or have acted with random kindness towards my family or myself.

To non-family members, I've given away several knives, many rifles too, and once a Honda Prelude rather than sell it or ship it CONUS to Hawaii. Drove it until the day I got on the plane.

In the last six months or so, to non-family members, I've given away a USN Mk3 Mod 0, an AG Russell Woods Walker, a Camillus Muskrat, a Camillus Pen, a Camillus Military, a Victorinox Camper, a Victorinox Spartan, a Case Sodbuster Junior, a Case Trapper, and a Case Peanut. In the traditional forum there is a current thread where I'm giving away an old USA Schrade Walden serpentine jack.

I like giving people Victorinox Classics.

Just did a GAW in the traditional forum of an Okapi knife.

Recently gave a sweet full-height grind, 1/8th tapered Fiddleback Forge Terrasaur with amazing dyed Masur Birch scales to a friend of mine. He helped out with tech and organization at my business for a while. I paid him for his time, but gave him this knife at Christmas as an extra "thank you".

Kershaw Ener g2
Benchmade Bonecollector fixed.
Benchmade Pika 2
Puma Rattler
Ka-bar neck knife
CRKT lake III

And a few others I don't really remember.

Just a couple days ago, I sold 5 high end william henry damascus model t10s for $4550 to a guy who yesterday took them to his brother who is dying in the hospital and let him pick whichever one he wanted. His brother took 45 minutes handling each one, and picked out his favorite. I shipped overnite cause the guy wasn't sure how long his brother is gonna last. His brother coded shortly after getting the knife and he called me today from the hospital thanking me for overniting them. His brother recovered and is hanging in there for now. His brother if and when he passes plans to give the knife to his best friend.
