Have you Ever given a knife away?

CQC-8 To my friend at Christmas.
It felt great as it was never used, and my friend had drooled over the knife for a while.
Cheers

I gave my brother a Swiss Army One Hand Trekker for Christmas. He seemed surprised at first but then said, "I really need to have a knife with me". I think he appreciated it. I would get one for my dad but he loses everything and still misses his old Buck knife and a cheap Buck Diamondback that I bought him years ago.

At this point I have gifted a Gerber LMFII to a combat medic, a blue cub scout knife to a Scout Master, a traditional kukri, Schrade + 70 to a very good friend. Giving is always the best. Almost forgot a Opinel 8 to my youngest daughter (21) a Kershaw Cryo, buck 300 and Imperial stockman to my wife also a very old MOP tuxedo knife.

Several over the years, but recently:

  1. In a GAW here, I gave away a handmade, forged knife by Curtis Green of Chama and 2 small Case knives. I also gave a fried a BM Mini-Grip.
  2. It always feels good to give a nice knife to someone who appreciates it.
  3. The forum GAW was just to give something back to the forum. The Mini-Grip was to friend who was working with a dull Gerber folder (an el cheapo Ripstop). I also gave him a lifetime of free sharpening. ;)

[Edit: BTW, I'm the guy that won the OP's GAW of the Endura. Nice knife and one that I really appreciate. ]

Yes, and too many to list all of them. The most memorable were Bark River Mini Northstars that I gave to my dad and my brother for Xmas one year (I also got one for myself, of course, so we could all share in the Joy!). Great little knives, and dad and brother were both thrilled!

The only ones I am glad I gave away are the ones I gave my kids. The adults I gave to don't seem to use or carry them. In my experience it is a waste of time trying to make someone into a "knife guy".

Yes, many. At this point, having been scammed a few times by eager beavers, I only gift knives to relatives, friends, deployed military and young (needy) law-enforcement officers.
Reagan..."trust, but verify." (IIRC)

Yep, given several away to family, friends and forum members. How did I feel? Well, I felt good. That's what giving something away is supposed to do, make the giver and the givee feel warm and fuzzy.:D

I don't know how I missed this thread when it came up.

I've given away plenty of knives, one of my favorite things to give actually!

I gave away several knives in the pay it forward's, they were a received very well but what do you expect when you give a knife-nut a free knife lol.

This past Xmas I gave a few of my good friends knives, my one closest friend got a Benchmade mini-grip, his first good knife, he absolutely loved it. My other friend Eddy got a mora and I was going to give him a Byrd hawkbill cause wether he knows it or not it would be perfect for his job but in the end I gave him choice of it or an Enlan EL-01 and he took the Enlan which was cool with me, as long as it put a knife in his pocket every day I'm happy and it turns out I really like that $18 Byrd myself. I've given my wife several knives, some received a lot better than others lol. I'm giving my cousin a ontario utilitac to augment his aging and long discontinued Benchmade Stryker that he has EDC's since atleast 2009 (it could be even older but I know he had it when I visited in '09). He can use the utilitac as a beater so he doesn't risk his beloved Stryker then for Xmas this coming year I'm probably going to give him a new axis Stryker so he can finally retire his old 910.

The one person I wish I could give a knife that I can't is my dad, I would love to be able to pick out a perfect knife for him and share my passion but I didn't get into knives till after he died. 2 Fathers Day's before he passed I did get to give him the 6" chromed out .44mag he always wanted tho, other than stuff like my kids birth's and stuff (and the day my Sebenza got here lol) giving him that gun was one of my proudest memories. He didn't have the slightest clue I was doing it so when he opened the box and there was a brand freaking new chrome revolve, god that was an awesome feeling for me! More recently (after dad died) I gave my mom a .38 snub nose just like was the first gun my dad had got her, she wasn't nearly excited but still felt good none the less, I actually just recently learned she goes shooting with one of her girl friends from work and her husband some times.

Oh and I've given my father-in-law a few blades and have another planned for this coming Father's Day. He's fun to buy for cause his tastes are a total 180 from my modern style so its fun to shop for him and pick knives I wouldn't otherwise even look at.

I've given knives as gifts that were bought exactly for that reason. Just my way of trying to create more knife nuts. :D

I've given quite a few away, mostly because I people to enjoy good knives as much as I do. If I like you, chances are you'll get a knife from me. My most recent was giving a youngster his first karambit:D

A few yanagi's, and recently a hogue ex02.

Yanagi's were gifts, same with hogue (just didn't like it).

I have given away a:
CRK Umnumzaan
ZT0200
ZT Scavenger
Buck/Mayo Waimea

These were given to friends who weren't in a position to afford a really good knife.

I have given a Gerber double edged and two CRKT's. One a liner lock and the other a frame. Good guys that enjoy knives.

I've given plenty of knives as gifts over the years. But the most rewarding time was when I gave one to a young guy at work. He was in his early 20's and saw me sharpening one of my knives. He asked me about sharpening knives and I told him that I would sharpen his if he wanted. He said that he had a cheap knife but had recently lost it. So a couple nights later I brought him an older Buck knife that I had. He was so happy and it really made me feel good.

1 yes. too many to count.
2 friends & family
3/5 most recently bm 530 (b-day), SRM 710 (b-day), bm nimravus & bk grip (mil deployment), and large & small HK ascender (random gift)
4 love it. always give new ones as gift.

I was in India for a couple of weeks, and took a Vic Classic with me, because I wasn't sure how knife laws worked over there. Gave the classic to one of the guys who showed me around on several occasions.

Too many to remember. Good kitchen cutlery and pocket knives are go-to gifts for me. Most recently I had a friend who had enlisted in the Navy come to me looking for advice on a good, inexpensive folder. I gave him my much-loved Spyderco Superleaf. I'd rather have him carry something I've handled, used, know and trust than anything I recommend he buy. I told him if the mirror polish bothers him I'd spring to have it cerakoted. He's a good friend and that knife will serve him well.
