Have you run into someone carrying a CRK?

I had a photo assignment at a Mustang car show when someone walked up behind me and said "hey, a sebenza!" For a second I thought they'd named a Mustang after my favorite knife but turned around to find a 20 something gent admiring the Insingo clipped to my pocket. He was carrying a Hinderer XM but said he had a few inlayed CRKs as well. Around these parts a yellow handled case is the standard with a few Benchmades and Spydercos mixed in. It was good to meet a fellow afficinato for the first time.

I got pulled over by a trooper here in Texas that had a Sebenza on him. Talked for a bit about how I missed mine after selling it to pay school, he gave me a ticket but we left as friends. He said "if you were still a Sebbie guy maybe I would've let you off with a warning" lol

Gun shop employee in San Antonio had a large 21 in his pocket when I spoke to him yesterday. We talked for a while and he's got quite the CRK collection at home. I bought a small insingo from him today.

Haha. That's funny

Did that gun store happen to be Nagels Guns and Cutlery?

Yes indeed. The small insingo was the only knife I saw that was priced normal, nice shop with huge selection. Nice people there too.

Yeah that store has just about everything you could think of. The CRK selection is definitely the only things priced normal. All the rest of the knives have a $100 mark up it seems

Yeah crazy crazy mark up. But it's nice to go look and play haha.

Had my first experience running into a CRK in the wild... I was staying at a hotel in northern Montana and a business man and his fellow co-workers (assuming) were eating the provided continental breakfast at the table next to myself and some friends. I notice the gentleman reach into his pocket and pull out of Small PJ Sebenza 21 and start to slice up a pear. I whispered to my firends, "Holy crap, that's the first person edc a CRK I have seen other than myself, I gotta ask?" After a few minutes, I catch the gentleman's eye and say, "How do you like your 21?". He smiles, points at his laptop and replies, "Is that what this thing is?". I smiled back and said, "No, I mean your Sebenza. How do you like it?". As he is wiping off his knife with his napkin, he states, "They're an awesome knife, so expensive you gotta clean em with a diaper. I've had a lot of them, but most i have given to my sons or they steal em from me."

It was a very brief, cordial conversation. It was obvious to me and my table that he was kind of bragging in front of his friends at the expense of his knife and, actually, I was kind of happy to provide him with that opportunity. The irony of his diaper statment as he was wiping it off with a paper napkin caught all my friends attention. Granted I was kinda hoping for a more in depth discussion on CRK's, maybe I even wanted to show off the 2 I was packing that day :). My Large and Small BG-42 PJ regulars just stayed in my pocket. Now I'm just bragging :p

A couple months back I manned a booth at a completely unrelated trade show for an organization I volunteer for. I had a bit of extra space on one of the tables, so I decided to discreetly set out a couple CRK boxes to see if anyone noticed. I didn't takes the knives out, so only someone who knew what a CRK is would notice. A few people saw them and commented that they were familiar, and one gentleman was interested. I explained that it would be a private sale, cash only, and he ended up buying a small 21 with wood inlay. He didn't have one in his suit pocket, but he told he he had 8 more at home. I did pull my small Classic out long enough to give him a brief look.

I met a guy locally to buy a DPxHest from him (it was an unbeatable price). Turned out he had a Small Inkosi on him.

I attended the Crossroads Gun show this weekend at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego, and walked the show for 2 hours each day holding 2 CRK boxes prominently displayed... Only one person commented, and he didn't know what a CRK, was but took me to a guy who had a small 21 in his pocket. I had 6 for sale, and he liked a BG 42 LG REG. I had, but only knew they were desirable, and couldn't pull the trigger. There was only one small 21 there for sale, as of 3 Sun. no takers. I saw 2 fakes there last year at $100 over CRK retail!

I was excited to spot a Sebenza (ended up being a plain, large 21) in the pocket of a gun shop clerk a few weeks ago. I asked him about it and then realized I had not one CRK on me. How embarrassing! Now I make sure I always at least have my small Inkosi on me.

I ran into a guy at a random fish market in Florida. He was in line buying fish and I saw the clip and immediately knew what it was. I asked him if it was a sebenza, and he said "what". I said the knife is it a sebenza? He seemed to have no idea what I was talking about, but he pulled it out and showed it to me. It was an old large BG42 N.I.C.A tanto. He said he saw it online years ago and liked it so he bought it. He said he has edc'ed it for years. He seemed unaware of other CRK knives, and other variations of sebenzas. He didn't even know it was called a sebenza. He was also completely unaware of Bladeforums or the online knife community.

I was dumbfounded that he would have such a rare and expensive knife but know nothing about the brand etc. I immediately asked if he would like to sell it, and he said no, that he had grown rather attached to having it on him all the time and that it just wasn't worth selling because he didn't really need the money. He did let me hold it and open it, and it was SMOOOOOTH to open.

I have seen a few CRK's around but not very often and always by very knowledgable owners.

lol No offense to those less fortunate than us in the knife world but I've even run into people who were enamored with simple spyderco slip joints ( I think they were called U.K. Penknife slipjoint. )

Anyway they thought paying 50 dollars + for a knife was very premium, cannot imagine trying to explain to someone the knife I carry cost 500+. In a way it's potentially a good thing that most people don't know the true material cost of our knives.

Just means the people that do recognize most likely will carry more appreciation for the knife itself instead of the price tag.

Usually custom Striders/MSC/DD or Hinderers. Some with Shiros. None with CRK. The typical USN crowd.

Lol, what crowds are you hanging or around with?

The only experience I ever had with another crk user was basically another member who I met to trade with. Never seen another Crk in the wild now have anyone else comment when I carry one.

I found out recently that my pest control guy is a hardcore knife knut, and we always talk blades and compare new acquisitions when he comes by. (Which is pretty often, living in an old house in the hills means we have to be proactive.) He's owned a few Sebs and other CRKs, but I've never seen him carry one. He's more into big beefy customs/midtechs with fast flippers and stuff like that.

Other than him the only owners I've met have been at the local CRK dealer, but that's kind of cheating.
