Hasn't happened to me. I find most don't know what a good knife is. It's hard to explain a $400 knife to them.

It's the proverbial par for the course when it comes to anything considered as a "hobby" and pride of ownership. While someone can walk into a Home Depot and buy a "knife" for $20 - $40, or buy similarly priced knife on Amazon, they may wonder as to why someone would pay 10 to 20 times as much for something which basically performs the same tasks! It's like you driving a $50K SUV or crossover and then the owner of the new Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet having to explain to you as to why he is sinking about $1 million $ into that fugly beast

I live south of Atlanta in Georgia and I never met anyone with any higher end knife . Not even a spyderco. Just Home depot or Auto Zone type knives clipped to their pocket.

I know a lot of Law enforcement officers and they carry crap knives as well.

I do know of a member here on Blade forums that lives 30 minutes away but we never met in person. Just talked via PM.
