Having my first Busse made! ...need a sheath and sharpening info.

At first I wasn't overly attracted to the Combat Boss Jack. Then when I came around they changed the knife on their site. I've been told they actually offer knives here on BF.com with greater frequency than on their website but I've yet to see it.

Anyway, I called up Busse and Lexi arranged to have one made for me. It'll be here in 3-6 weeks. It's a Combat Boss Jack...full choil, black finish, Black G10 laminate...that is exactly what I wanted. $307 shipped.

I do have to find a good sheath in the mean time. I want kydex and possibly a modular/removable snap. I'm thinking a simple kydex design with eyelets for 550 cord would be good although I'll probably end up using a Tek-Lok if I carry it around when working outside. Any idea on which one or two makers would be worth looking at?

However, with a $300 knife I'll probably opt for my CS knives for heavy use rather than this blade.

Also, I plan on buying a Sharpmaker to I can put a nice edge on my Kukri/Folders/etc. Will this work for the INFI steel or is there a specific sharpener I need?

Thanks! :)

I would definately go for an Okuden, On Scene Tactical, Mike Sastre, Or Mashed Cat for a kydex sheath.

They are the best.

By the way. Great choice for your first Busse:thumbup:

I bought the Mashed Cat. I might rig an extension for it if it's jabbin me in the waist too much. But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

The only thing I still have not bought is a good sharpener/system for it.

I was going to go Sharpmaker but the earlier replies seem to have recommended a single stick/rod/stone. I guess I'll do more searching through the threads to see what everyone uses on their INFI...and whether it's personal preference or if there are 2 or 3 that are really popular.

Thanks

EMT,

After more thought on the matter, I think you will be okay with the sharpmaker. The problem I was worrying about you having would be having to reprofile to get the angles of the sharpmaker. Thinking how much the shop has stepped up their sharpening game, I doubt you will run into a problem.

With that said, DMT diamond stones pretty much rock for most steels. INFI is not an exception.

You can always get yourself some sandpaper and make your own strop.

Lots of ways to do it :)

I think what I'm going to do is pull the trigger on a sharpmaker tonight and then if it doesn't work for this or another blade I buy something else. Otherwise this seems to be a well liked and well rounded kit.

The blade I'm most worried about is my CS Gurkha Kukrii...that thing and my Rajah II are Kukri shaped blades and beasts of them at that...but I've seen videos of guys using the sharpmakers for them.

Thanks

Yeah, you can always use the stones and ceramics freehand like a file. You will figure it out.

I did order the Sharpmaker last night. As far as freehand, the triangular rods fit into the bottom of the case and turn it into a traditional stone setup.

We'll see how it does...

Thanks

Yeah, I gave my brother a sharpmaker when I gave him a Sebenza. I was mostly thinking free hand like a file for the recurves. Know what I mean?

Just so you don't think Im some guy with a bunch of dull knives trying to help...

For carbon steel I use a translucent stone and a linen strop

If you end up needing any help, don't hesitate to help. Im surely not the only one on these forums that knows how to get a knife sharp. Far from it actually.

Well I told Lexi I wanted the DC finish today. She told me it may mean a longer wait. That's ok. I'm not in a hurry but at the same time I'm sure yall can relate to the kid on Christmas Eve feeling I've got.

Anyone know why changing the finish would mean a longer wait?? Do they do finishes in batches? That is, all the knives on order with that finish or coating for a few days before moving on to the next coating or finish??

Thanks

Well I talked to Lexi last week and she said my DCBJ will be mailed this coming week...I can't wait!!

I'm already talking to her about a Killa Zilla. I love the firepower of Kukri blades! I'm thinking a KZ is either next on the list or somewhere at the front of the line...assuming INFI is as magical as I hope...

Just figured I'd update the thread.
