Hawaii Knife Life - daily use for work and play

Mahalo !

How long was your BI stay? What part of the island were you on? I love that place too!
It’s actually a crazy and great story which I will shorten for the sake of everyone’s sanity. Haha!

I met a girl in my hometown in Canada and three months later she left for the BI to learn aquaponics. She had invited me to come for three weeks to do a little backpacking tour. No cars and no hotels. I figured that the best way to actually get to know someone is to throw all comforts out the window, so to speak.

We started close to Kona (can’t remember the name of the little town) and ended up in Hilo. We met some absolutely amazing locals (Hawaiian natives) who spoiled us and gave us awesome Hawaiian history lessons. We saw amazing things because of these fine folks. They knew where to go and what was happenin’.

I have never, ever, had such an enjoyable vacation. It is a highlight in our book of vacation time.

I am now, and still married to that wonderful girl.

Absolutely, my friend, and glad to do so.

I could probably fill a whole BF page with all of the adventures, stupid decisions and fantastic people we met/had on the BI in those three weeks. Haha.

I’ll share one cause I can’t help myself. I remember trying to hike back to where we were sleeping. It was a super dark night and the highway was on the side of a mountain. We had figured out that there was no way anyone was gonna stop for a couple of hitch hikers at this time of night, so we began our very long walk. (3hrs) We were a little anxious.

The place we were given permission, earlier in the day, to tent at that night had some lilikoi and they had loaded us up for our day of hiking…back to the story.

About an hour into our walk, not seeing one car, and hoping to recognize landmarks, there, in the dark appeared a single random streetlight. No joke. As we approached this wonderful bit of light in the darkness we heard a truck coming from behind. Well, stuck my thumb out I did, not expecting them to stop. Lo and behold they pulled over. It was a wonderful older lady, on oxygen, and she wanted us to sit in the box of her truck. No problem! She introduced herself as Aunti Clara and was not very chatty.

When she pulled over to drop us off, I got out and opened her passenger door, which in hindsight I feel badly for spooking Antie Clara. I offered her some lilikoi as a “thank you,” and the smile on her face made my heart melt. She said thank you so many times as lilikoi does not grow on her property. (You know how that goes, I’m sure)

We got a ride randomly again from this wonderful lady during our trip…she was very chatty that time, and more lilikoi was in order for another smile. :)

What cool stories, thanks f)r sharing and I like the ending where you win the lady!! back to Molokairider’s pics, are wild boars a problem on some islands?
Aloha!

Not a huge problem for our island, as we are controlling them with local hunting.

That is starting to change though, as it is with deer as well, as people are moving here at a large scale, which means lands are getting closed off.

Thanks for your question!

Funny how things work. I'm rediscovering my appreciation for the Delica. It was my first "expensive" folder back in the day. It's still a great option.

My daughter and I carry complementary Delicas, mine is orange and her's is blue. Harder to lose in the woods or the city. I love the Delica, one of the reasons I gave her one is I still think the lock back is the safest lock to carry in a pocket. Any time something tries to open it, the spring is continually trying to close it back. With a liner lock, from lock, or even the compression lock, once it breaks loose from the detent, it's just freely opening in the pocket, I've cut my hands pretty bad, I recently removed the skin on a knuckle on my right pinkie because the blade of my para 3 was open in my pocket. I sold the para 3 and went back to back locks.

I'm with ya.

I prefer back lock or triad lock over any other type.

I don't need speed as much as I want security.
