Well yes, he scammed me from the beginning. And he is still a member here and we the knife community are still buying from him on other platforms. Beware folks

calemerson calemerson
Leave him negative feedback with a link to this thread so others don’t get ripped off or have to put up with the hassle of refunds because he spends the money before he ships the knife.
Post his name address ebay name and email as well so if he comes back after banning other potential victims will not be caught unaware

A message I got about Hawkfan from another member here

I just received this PM on another forum and wanted to make you aware of it:
Hi Peter,

As you're probably well aware, I'm also BF member, KELAMA. FWIW: I'm done with my participation over there, as I'm trying to scale back time I spend both on this hobby & just on the internet in general. My last active day over there (after I got all my affairs/transactions taken care of), was on Veterans day. Between you & me, I won't be going back.

With that stated, a fellow member who I had confided in regards to my 1 and only BAD/UGLY experience on BF's (surprise Hawkfan/Jeff), sent me a text message, informing me of his current GBU "Bad" thread that is ongoing

Straight up: I've done over 600+ Excellent transactions on BF's with so many awesome member's.....and only 1 bad. It was so bad (blatant) that I was this close to starting a GBU thread & lighting him up, was Jeff.

Unfortunately (fortunately for him) at the time, by brother was in the ICU burn unit up in Santa Clara Valley Hospital fighting for his life with with burns over 35% of his body after being in an explosion....so I had to put everything on the back burner & out of my mind for a couple of months....

The details of what he did (lied) and knife he shipped me (described as "in mint condition, 10 out of 10 no issues as all) turned out to be the most blatant "not as described knife" and and had some of the worst issues of any Custom, I've ever seen. I mean I've read countless horror/scammer stories in the GBU over the years...and this one would've ranked way up there!

We went through a lengthy PP dispute that I filed & subsequently prevailed with (although he held onto my $1100 for well over a month during this process) which was appealed twice.....In the end it was poetic justice/karma, at it's finest. I still have a lengthy incriminating text history from him, as well as several phone conversations. I swear to God, that guy (Jeff) has to be a meth addict....I shit you not! The crazy thing is, we live only approximately 90 miles from one another, and I had offered to meet him more than half way so he would have only had to travel 25 miles for us to undo the transaction without PayPal or USPS shipping involved and he wouldn't agree....and then he went dark altogether.

There's another knife person/collector friend of mine, John Nomikos (Ibslammin BF's) who actually took possession of the knife in question & can substantiate everything I've stated. The knife/sales thread in question, was a sale by Hawkfan in folder's, however it was a Custom Marfioni SnG DA. I'm sure that you can find the thread, which I had posted an "I'll take it" in. If you could please pass along this information (perhaps copy & paste) to Super Mod Boru (Carl), I'd be happy to discuss this only negative transaction of mine that in retrospect, I should've warned the other BF's member's about.

Trust me on this: Hawkfan, IS A BAD APPLE!!! The worst! There's also another member over there who almost bought a defective knife from him, however I warned him. I'll give you his BF username to give to Carl. We had actually sent a few messages because was really trying everything he could to talk him into buy a knife that has serious issues....and we also joked about Hawkfan's sales thread in the Gadget & Gear sub-forum, where he was trying to sell a deactivated AAA auto roadside assist thing....it was the craziest thing I've ever seen anyone try to sell over there, or pretty close to it. Find it, and you'll see what I'm talking about....he wrote a short salesmanship novel trying to sell such a joke....and I remember correctly, somebody actually bought it, which was even funnier. Anyway.....

Thanks!

He will be back (KELAMA that is) but he did everyone here a disservice by not giving Hawkfan a negative rating and bringing up the issue here in the GBU.

Every time one of these topics arises, it makes me never want to buy or sell on this forum.

Do we need some kind of "escrow" type service in which a trusted third party receives both funds and item, then forwards to the respective recipients after confirming all is on the level? It would cost some money, but might be a good idea for the $500+ transactions.

I'm just the opposite - I much prefer to buy knives here on the Exchange than just about any place else. I've done well over 200 transactions here over the years and never had a single problem as buyer or seller! I have bought WAY more knives than I've sold. I've had better experience here overall than I've had with dealers. There is no way I could have afforded to check out so many different knives, brands, styles if I wasn't able to purchase nice knives here for less than full retail of a new knife, and sell a knife or two when I need funds to check something else out...

Here's my vote and a round of applause from me for the Exchange.

Easy, fella. Yes, I agree it is more efficient to leave the money in until you hear someone is happy but some people never get back to you to tell you they received it. It’s not like it’s a rule or something. If I’m getting a refund, I can wait the 2-3 extra days, if that fact is communicated to me. It’s not like the guy has a shady history here. Not everyone needs to be made out to be a crook or scoundrel. The guy apologized and offered an explanation, I don’t think he needs you raking him over the coals for asinine things like “length of his response”.

A rule isn’t a rule if it isn’t written down, is it?

In any case, I conceded it is more appropriate to wait so there isn’t a delay in money transfers, but don’t make the guy out to be some crook just because the drama is appealing. He isn’t. It isn’t like he took the money and ran.

Did you “lose” it, or do you just need to wait 2-3 business days?

Hawkfan Hawkfan couldn't you have linked a credit card to your PayPal and just sent money back without using the “refund” option?
Huh...these didn't age well🙄

I doubt the mods will take too kindly to you dodging me in W&c and coming to the open forum to start bickering again.
Oh? Like you white knighting for the seller in direct response to quotes from me? In a somewhat derogatory manner, implying that I was going off half-cocked because I pointed out that his actions violated this forum's policies?

Again: There is a spot in W&c if you have a personal dispute with me. Stop dragging your issues out here onto the open forum. This is my last response to you on open forum.

While I have the poster you are quoting on ignore, i know which posts youre referring to. I have seen my share of thieves, scammers and general poor behavior in the last 15-20 years on bladeforums. All the red flags were there in the original post and hawkfans wall of text responses.
Now, surprise, another person with the same experience comes forward.
Paratrooper is a contrarian and spouts off just to go against experienced members who have witnessed this behavior in the past.
Every post by Jeff Chung was obfuscation in an attempt to deflect suspicion and avoid having to refund calemerson. You and I don’t fall for it but a naive, thinks-he-knows-it-all like paratrooper06 is easily fooled by someone like Chung/hawkfan because of inexperience in dealing with people and an inherent trust brought upon by thinking he is smarter than he is and not being smart enough to recognize that fact.

When Jeff Chung resorted to radio silence here and childish insults in emails to calemerson instead of doing everything in his power to make calemerson whole, that confirmed our initial suspicions that Jeff Chung hawkfan was delaying the refund because he spent the money- in effect a no-interest loan from calemerson.

calemerson calemerson keep posting correspondence from Jeff Chung and anyone else wronged by him- i doubt that Kelama is the only one.
Also post whatever contact info i.e. name and address, phone number etc that you have. After Jeff Chung hawkfan is banned that information will come in handy when he, like most other scammers and thieves, makes a new account.

I think most people who participate in the exchange here have an overall positive experience. I am possibly more risk averse than the average person here and while my urge to acquire new knives is strong, I'd rather pursue other venues, especially if it makes face-to-face transactions possible. Bladeforums is too big for me!

Well, shoot.
He contacted me via Instagram about a deal we’d been discussing over the past few weeks to finalize it. That should have been a red flag but I was tired and had a bit of whiskey in me so I didn’t investigate. That was stupid on my part. I haven’t heard anything from him since sending payment. I’ll update here with how it goes. Luckily I sent via G&S.

King of the Cheese King of the Cheese , I just happened to have started the TPB Xmas special when I saw this thread so I had your avatar in the upper left corner of the iPad screen and Bubbles in the same hat in video on the lower right:)

I received the item today that I sent him payment for on 13DEC, no issues. We’d been in talks on it since Thanksgiving week: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/spinning-top-display-with-hidden-spin-plate-w-2-tops.1821753/

I know it doesn’t help in this case but it might provide some hope that everything will work out.

I am posting this at Kelama's request

[/QUOTE]

Good morning & TGIF, Peter!
I really appreciate the updates. I'm really glad that he (Jeff Cheung) was finally exposed & subsequently banned. I didn't quite capture just how bad of a scammer/crackhead this guy truly is via my message. Had the forums been able to listen to my phone conversations with him, as well as reading the lengthy wall of text messages he blew up my phone with, THEN, they would know.
If you do happen to post in there again, or contact Calmerson, please let him know that I sincerely apologize for not alerting the forums back in March. FWIW> I had actually looked at all of Hawkfans feedback prior to pulling the trigger & he had excellent feedback with some really reputable member's.....not trying to make excuses.
I hope you have a great weekend & thanks again!
John

I think if Kelama wants to comment on Bladeforums, he should log in and do so.

He will likely return at some point, But at the moment he doesn't seem to want to(exact reasons unknown to me). He had some info about the seller which I passed on to the OP and Boru and this apology to the forum(after I undated him on the banning), which I felt the forum would be interested in. I don't plan on this being a frequent event on my part and likely the apology should end it.
I am sure he has many good feelings toward the BF community and cares what happens here, even though not being directly involved.

I understand. It was more a remark about his “commenting by proxy”, and calling people “scammer crackheads” isn’t exactly helping resolve this issue.

I agree about commenting by proxy and did it reluctantly
It was actually your comment of him doing a disservice to the forum by not giving negative feedback and /or a GBU thread that factored into my posting the apology, vs just sending a copy to the OP.
Personally think the meth head analogy(long rambling posts) was better than the crackhead :), but what do I know
