Check this out, this guy breaks everything from ESEE to CS to KA-BAR to Gerber to TOPS to Moras etc etc etc, & ends up recommending the knives he tests.

I've never seen anything like it. Since when are knives treated like that?! Problem is these guys are making these videos because there's demand for "knife destruction"

I was LMAO watching him doing pull ups on the Strongarm.

NOSS... Is that you??!!?? Son of NOSS??

This guy is far from original. NOSS was someone that all here absolutely loved to hate a few years ago, and then a Russian knife beater came along and really wailed on folders, concentrating on spine whacking as a test.

NOSS was so controversial here and caused so much outrage and infighting the mods closed most of the threads that had his "tests" on them, and the debates on the validity of his "tests" were absolutely nasty. His videos were pulled from YouTube, put back, and there for a while when someone here would rediscover them the firestorm of indignance would start all over. The difference with NOSS and his tests though was that he would destroy better knives, some high end cutlery, not something like a Strongarm.

Can't wait to see if this guy can generate that much vitriol and heartburn about "valid testing", "real world testing" and all the attacks on one another here. It should be pretty nasty; folks here didn't even like the Project Farm guy's somewhat innocuous tests and didn't do any of the circus antics this guy did.

Gettin'' the popcorn ready...

Thanks for some history on the subject..

Let me tell you, i'm no fan of such testing.. I'm actually a little disturbed by it. It's not just the Strongarm, he broke many. Most vids were uploaded days ago.

Like I said, problem is people are watching these vids to help them decide whether to buy or not. It's crazy

Then the JCVD splits at the end.

While it's fun to watch someone actively try (and succeed) in destroying knives, it's only entertainment. If you use a knife as it's supposed to be used I doubt you would ever break them, or at least very rarely.

Just watch DBK. They do some ridiculous stuff with knives, but on a whole most stuff survives. You'd probably never baton through a frying pan, or shoot a knife with an air rifle, but it's fun to laugh at. And Mikkie has a kick ass band.

I have never understood the outrage over how someone uses their own personal property. Do people have a sad because a knife they like gets broke? Seems illogical to develop the emotional attachment to a knife to the point where seeing one break illicits outward anger and emotion.

It is entertaining, if people don't like it... gasp! Don't watch lol

It’s stupid and entertaining. If you’ve seen one knife destruction test vid, you’ve seen them all.
I like the ones where they do ridiculous things and Don’t break the knife, like some of the Cold Steel videos. That’s more impressive

I couldn't stand to watch the entire vid, but skipping ahead every few minutes, it's clear this gerber had a pretty good ht for abuse

I don't know how much value people put in that aspect, but if destruction resistance is your main criteria, you'll end up with 3cr13 and 1075 at the top of your list...
I dare say, most bf members understand this and still prefer steel with better edge retention :)

I would have a sad for the off-road lambo🥺

Was Noss the one that wore the old goalie mask?

If so, he did a destruction video with a Buck Nighthawk that impressed me. I wouldn’t have guessed that it could take that kind of abuse.

I think what people get bent out of shape about is that a good chunk of these knuckleheads will take a knife, use it every which way it shouldn't be used in order to break it, then go on and on about how it's not a good knife and won't stand up to camp chores in a survival situation because it won't hold up to being put in a vise and hit broadside with a 10lb sledgehammer.

I find spine whack tests to be the most obnoxious simply because so much credence is put on them. Pure destruction videos I don't have much problem with as long as they are done foe the purpose of seeing what it takes to break the knife and not talking down about said knife when it fails outside the scope of its design.

Two youtubers that I watch casually are the guy that does the Microtech destruction videos (for Microtech) and Mayor Fuglycool. The MT destruction videos are what got me to take the plunge on what I viewed as a "fragile" knife. Thrown 50' in the air onto pavement, used to cut the tire off a rim, and hammer through a board yet will still fire most of the time. I do respect that also showed that it was starting to fail too. Like it wouldn't lock out, but with a quarter inch of pull it would. Shows that it's a viable knife even when severely damaged.

I like MFC vids because he has a point system of sorts, does the same tests in the same order, and gives his impressions of how he felt the knife held up to what he admits are abusive tests. The only gripe I have with his "methods" are that he will do the tip snap test before he does the hammer-into-a-board-and-stand-on-it test. A Voyager failed the latter because it lost a good chunk of the tip during the former and couldn't be hammered in far enough to be able to put his weight on it.

I have softened to my hatred of these kinds of tests. Lots of people wrecking stuff for entertainment. I have problem with that as long as they don't start equating their findings as anything remotely approaching empirical.

Excuse me sir, I'd like to clutch my pearls with faux outrage in peace, thankyouverymuch.

I hear ya, if someone put a knife in a vise like noss did and beat the handle with a 10 pound sledge and when the knife breaks, asserts it is a crappy knife for making wood shavings, I agree. But I have not seen anyone do that.

Spinewhacks have their place in my opinion, especially if a knife is marketed in a manner that gives the consumer the illusion that the knife is capable of combat or tactical or whatever hard use. I have hit the back of a folders blade on a branch and had it close unintentionally. Not a fan of that.

I have seen mayor fugly cool as well as the microtech tester dude along with vininull and noss and a few others, I like watching them. I take what I see with a grain of salt and apply it as I see fit. I for one appreciate someone willing to destroy their own item so I may see how it performed.

So stupid, keeping at it in the most violent way until it breaks, in a gas mask then doing that split isn't entertaining, imo.

Yes, watching him beat the crap out of that stacked leather handle sucks.

I've seen some of Mayor's vids, not the same thing. His reviews are kinda reasonable & I think most of the broken ones with Mr. gas mask survived Mayor's tests.
