He broke them all

Watched this guy test/review a ColdSteel 4Max and could not believe what kind of abuse it handled. I am all for using a knife as intended but as long as manufactures keep marketing things as "hard use" or overbuilt these tests are fine by me. Its not like the guy is doing this to slipjoints or opinnels.

I watched his 4-Max Scout video and it was indeed impressive. A true folding tank (that also happens to be a very functional knife, based upon my use of the regular 4-Max). šŸ‘

If you mean forged in fire, then no it's not the same thing, far from it. That show had a an episode to recreate the most iconic fixed blade in the world & then doing some reasonable testing, while this guy had an episode to destroy it (AND THEN beat the life out of the stacked leather handle for no reason whatsoever), then throwing it away like it's garbage.

How is that the same?

Also for comparison, if you like hardcore testing, watch Dutch bushcraft knive's video of the ESEE Junglas, then watch this guy making a 3 piece puzzle out of it.. Then maybe recommending it or whatever. Ridiculous!

imo

Like I said, done in poor taste.

Hard use and destruct testing can be very informative .

Some are more useful than others , that seem mostly for the entertainment / shock value .

Proof testing is time honored and serves a vital purpose for those that must count on their gear to keep working .

I prefer the more scientific and systematic approaches , but some information can be gleaned from almost any honest test .

These tests are obviously not intended as instructional "how to" properly use a knife , so not sure why all the outrage ?

This guy is a little over the top for me, but in general I like watching destructive knife tests and appreciate the information I can glean from them.

For instance, this video taught me that not ALL Gerber knives are plastic trash that will crumble to dust in a strong wind like the ā€œUltimate Survival Knifeā€.

Other videos taught me how flimsy the ā€œUltimate Survival Knifeā€ actually was, and solidified my opinion that Gerber will literally put their customers in potential danger to make a buck, so I’ll never buy from them.

(And yeah I know some folks here think it’s fine that they advertised a tinfoil and plastic knife as the ā€œUltimate Survival Knifeā€, because most people buying one probably won’t actually use it in an actual survival situation. To which I say, ā€œRight: MOST people.ā€)

Truthfully: I keep looking at the Gerber Sedulo, and thinking...

TheArab, perhaps i should have used quotes around ā€œsame thing.ā€ they take (mostly very nice, one off customs) and beat them. Some test are ok, some you gotta say wtf.

But hey, beat them up as much as you can. Its not your personal knife, dont get so emotional over what someone else does with it. Life goes on. The only thing that has changed is your new knowledge that someone broke a piece of steel.

i will check out your recommendation.

I will say that I don’t take pleasure from watching things destroyed just for fun/profit without any purpose.

That guy ā€œWhistlin’ Dieselā€ on YouTube for instance that buys a new truck and destroys it for clicks is gross and sad.

Right!

Moving on

The vast majority of those ā€œdestruction testsā€ simply prove you can destroy a tool by using it outside of its design parameters.

I’m now going to do a ball peen hammer test by striking the horn of my anvil with the wooden handle of the ball peen hammer. See? It broke.

I’m going to test this 12 Gauge shotgun by filling the barrel with concrete and firing a round. See? It failed.

I’m going to test the structural integrity of this F35 Fighter by flying it into the ground at a 60 degree angle. See? It failed.

Im going to heat his crow bar until it looses its magnetism and then try and pry off the door of the safe. See? It bent. Failed.

Utterly stupid. Impractical. No bearing on the real world.
