Hello & Survive! Knife mods

Yeah ..it's a great option, and the perfect size for my needs. Price ain't bad either ($10[emoji16] )

Pictures of my current set up....

It's alittle bulky, and it comes in at 24oz but it's got everything I need I one package. The sheath adaptor is done by Red feather gear and it's a nice/needed addition. I run a TOPS style clip, I know a lot of people don't like those, but for my purposes I find it's the most versatile and lightweight option ...

The knife...

Definitely a joke in here along the lines of "having a dash of coffee with your sugar" :) but in all seriousness that looks awesome, would love to see what's in that bag!

Heck yeah it's a great deal!
I still need to put mine back onto my big knife. This is how my old GSO 6 was setup.

That's me.... Not so much a survival kit, but more an essential kit as I'm in it all the time. But I'm still always looking for a way to trim down/multipurpose items (more coffee less sugar [emoji4])

That's a well planned out kit you have there.
I really need to take mine out and sort through it because it's heavy and full of enough fire making crap to last more than a month. First aid is really lacking in mine.

I've definitely been back and forth on the first aid... I've got it paired down to the basics minus some mole skin, which is worth it's weight in gold... I find that if I go survival then I end up with a lot of stuff I never use, so basically I try to only pack stuff I "do" use often. Still to heavy though[emoji849]

I had Battle Horse knives make some fire steel holders and then today I had them make some fire steel strikers and holders for my GSO's
If anyone else is interested in any of these mods I had Battle Horse keep the templates to make more of these for the GSO people since there is nothing out there as of now really..
If interested .....
Contact Battle Horse Knives and ask for Dave Corona or Alicia
(740) 995-9009
Cost will be $10 a piece and $5 shipping for the fire steel holders and $10 for the fire steel striker holders and $30 for the strikers themselves.. They have different handle color options for any of the kydex
You can also order fire steels and handles of most colors to match you scales for an additional charge

Oh the templates they have for the fire steel holders are for the new spec 5.1 and the 4.1 and they will work on either one.. The 5.1 holder will fit the 4.7 as well

I don't work there, just know them very well and they agreed to help get some good kydex out there for us to fit these knives..

Very clever set up... I like the finished look !! I've been kicking around the idea of some sort of misc. piece steel as a scraper/striker... I'd be very tempted if I could multi purpose it some how, maybe an awl or something

Or a butter knife? :) That special-made scraper looks like a kitchen utensil of some kind to me... The new-spec GSOs have sharper spines that can act as a scraper in and of themselves, though I for one definitely prefer a sharper notch in the spine or a separate scraper, and the Alox SAK's have just the awl you're looking for! Another option is the file or even the plier-jaws on a Leatherman (Squirt PS4 has tools that work, so it doesn't need to be a big heavy one). Obviously those are more expensive scraper-options, but you're not buying one of those tools just for the scraper ;)

The awl on a SAK or multitool is just about the best damn fire steel scraper Ive ever used. That custom scraper is very cool. I think it needs a chisel/kiridashi type tip and a bottle opener cut into one side.

That would be cool to have that scraper I have have other purposes bedsides just a scaper.. It does throw a shower of sparks though!
I usually don't like using my knives for a scraper and Battle Horse was already making these in production so I figured what the hell, I'll stick a couple on my GSO's.. They don't weight much and work great

I use to use my Leatherman as I always carry it with me too but I like to keep everything together in one package too just in case
