Hello & Survive! Knife mods

Now I remember what that scraper reminded me of!

It's a great idea for people like myself that couldn't stand striking a ferro rod on a Blind Horse. The O1 had a tendency to round off easily on the spine also.

That's funny right there !!

Or a butter knife? :) That special-made scraper looks like a kitchen utensil of some kind to me... The new-spec GSOs have sharper spines that can act as a scraper in and of themselves, though I for one definitely prefer a sharper notch in the spine or a separate scraper, and the Alox SAK's have just the awl you're looking for! Another option is the file or even the plier-jaws on a Leatherman (Squirt PS4 has tools that work, so it doesn't need to be a big heavy one). Obviously those are more expensive scraper-options, but you're not buying one of those tools just for the scraper ;)

Yeah... Once I get my "new to me" 4.1 I'll try with sharping the spine... I'll post pics after I'm done... I do really prefer it that way, so I can also maintain the tip as well ... I was seriously considering the new spec but in all honestly I like the straiter handle as well as the skeletonized tang... I'm weird, I know [emoji15]

I do dig the look of the new finish as well as reports on them having a thinner keener edge..

I guess you could say I'm "old school" [emoji41]

I have bigger hands so I think the new spec feel so much better in my hand.. The new spec 5.1 and 4.7 feel so natural..
On the GSO Facebook group a good bit of the guys prefer the old spec though

That's me.... Not so much a survival kit, but more an essential kit as I'm in it all the time. But I'm still always looking for a way to trim down/multipurpose items (more coffee less sugar [emoji4])

What little sharpener is that? Diamond?

Yeah .... DMT mini fold, extra fine (green). Once I get my edge thinned out, I'll run a micro bevel, then if I need a touch up in the field I'll take 2-3 passes per side to reset my micro bevel... Just in case you where wondering [emoji41]

Yeah the 4.1 is a hell of a knife

4.1 is likely my favorite, it's been on my hip since i got it. I'd love to feel the new spec grips but have only gotten old spec in for sharpening.

Yeah same here... I had it one day and thought "there's no real way this could get any better"....that is except for the spine being round... But being that's really a by product of the finish I can't count it against the knife ... I prefer this tumble finish, very durable!!
