HELP... Looking for a new gun

Forget about all those fancy new guns.
If you don't have a Webley revolver, you should.
If you can afford it, it should be a Webley-Fosbery.

Doesn't necessarily have to be something new on the market, just something I don't have. Got any recommendations?
Assuming you are in Ohio, or a short drive away, and able to legally possess a weapon - I'd trade a great Sig P229 .40, back when Sigs were made well, dressed with Crimson Trace laser sights for say maybe ... a HG55 in your collection. 😊

Novice here and about to get some handguns.Thinking Glock 17,19 and or S&W 686 .357 or even .500 Snubnose.Any suggestions?Would be mostly used at shooting range.Love the revolvers though.
For fun, 9mm is cheap. For class, wheel gun. For reloading weird loads, 357.

Ewww. 40 short and whimpy.

Always a critic ... that is one of many in my safe. Using phrases like "Ewww" leaves me to think that you probably couldn't handle a few.😏
I prefer 10mm.

Same way I prefer 357 over 38, 44mag over 44 special, ect....

30 ish years ago 40 SW had its place... when FBI could Qual with 10mm......

Other then that, it is a useless cartridge. Coming from a guy who hunts in ak with a 338 win mag rifle, fishes with 44mag on his hip, and caries 9mm fir 2 legged targets.

Slight correction. Active bear territory in ak, I have a Galil Ace in 308 with a 2 point sling on my chest in SUPER high bear territory.

Oh, in ak.

Where 9mm has more bear kills then 40.......

👍 IIRC at one time the B&C record grizzly was one taken by an Eskimo woman with a .22LR. In self-defense at point blank range—head shot.

Hunted caribou in Cantwell & King Salmon; hunted moose about everywhere; hunted muskox on the N Slope with a friend that drew a permit. Fished for king salmon on the Kenai; subsistence dipped salmon in Cook Inlet and Canyon River; fished halibut in Seldovia and Homer ... fyi - seeing a killer whale a football field or two away while in a 12' zodiac powered by a 10hp motor is very effing intimidating. 🙁

I lived in Ak for 10 years before you were born. Been there ... got the t-shirt. A .300 Weatherby Mag is flatter shooting rifle IMHO and a 45-70 is the best all-around rifle for AK. I carried a Colt Anaconda for my side arm.

Been through decades of all the top end semi-auto pistols. My choices are; Sig P210 Target, CZ75C and the HK45C.

Revolvers are great, but they’re not the best for new comers. Of the two Glocks, I would suggest the 19. Easier to conceal if you decide to carry it, and it can take larger magazine for home duty/reloads. Personally, I prefer the M&P line from S&W. Find the grip angle more comfortable, and easier to instinctively aim with. Your best bet is to go to a gun store, and handle all the pistols you can. Even better if you’re able to rent the ones you like at the range. Best of luck!

I like my shoulder, been everywhere you mentioned, I prefer Davidson ditch for bou. Dipping is fun, only if your on the shore. Been close enough to grizzlies on the kogrugluk to scratch their ears. 300 Weatherby is awesome, but I'll take my 338 win mag. Want a 45-70. And a colt anaconda is sexy as hell.

Nothing like processing a bou at -40 with a ds6

I just got an Aero Precision Solus Comp Rifle in .308. Can't wait to break this thing in.
I am selling an AR Pistol in .556 I just can't seem to take to the range. Love my AR 10 too much.

There are clearly gentlemen on this thread who know WAY more about the outdoors than me….never scratched a grizzly’s ears… so no disrespect to them! I am pretty sure that if we were lucky enough to share drinks I would be spending the time sitting bug eyed with amazement!

I like both wheel guns and semi autos. If you like to mess around, the wheel guns will often take lesser/greater loads (.38/.357, 44mag/44special) so that is fun. I like my glocks, (mod 21) and my 1911 style pistols (kimber is the fave). I enjoy my Hi-Power but the trigger is not awesome…I get a kick out of my smith and ruger revolvers.

If you are really just starting out, start with a .22. You don’t have to bag a bear on your first day.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with mastering some of your fundamentals on a single action .22. Sure they are not very sexy but they are almost all sturdy and will last a lifetime. The shooting is more slow and “purposeful.”

Don’t misunderstand, “blasting away” is fun but maybe that comes second.

I suppose mine is a more economic perspective. Sure, you could jump into guns with a Freedom arms model 83 and full house loads out of your Dillon reloading equipment and discover you don’t have the time or money to pursue this hobby.

I was going to recommend the Browning Hi-Power 9 mm. I have one built under contract for the Chinese Nationalist Army. Made in Toronto by Inglis during WWII. It fits a wooden stock/holster.

The relatively modern version I collected is made by FN and assembled in Portugal. Shoots the same as the WWII version. The magazine safety can be a bit frustrating, but I never dry fire with the magazine out.

Springfield Armory now has the patent and makes the SA-35. I was unable to obtain one before the handgun laws in Canada went to crap. From the photos it does look like it has a classic early 20th century esthetic.

Picked up a Super Duty “Blem” Upper, Rail, Lower, Buffer Tube, Charging Handle and Trigger Guard in OD Green from Geissele back in July for $480.

Here is the only “blem” I found other than the OD Green Anodizing not being an exact match.

I jumped on the 2011 bandwagon and snagged that TriArc Tri 11 off the exchange. Absolutely love it.
