Help sought from Zero Thoughts Aficionados in choosing first ZT , please ...

Kind of like how this post just made you lose all credibility...

OP I'd recommend a 0770 variant. 0562, 0801, 0808, 0900, 0220 and 0456 are the more medium sized knives like you mentioned. Others to look at on the larger size are the 0620, 0630 Emersons and the deceptively easy carrying and is a lot of knife for the money in my opinion.

Good luck with your decision!

0620 has the same length as 0562, just heavier, so I still put it in the medium size league. To me, large size ZTs are 0560/1, 0200, and maybe also 0452.

I did think about that. And I can agree with you. To me its right there at the threshold (Med- Lrg) so I still mentioned it. They do carry pretty well being as flat as they are.

Just saw on bladehq there's a new 0450--cf wit ZDP-189. Looks cool.

I have a confession, I've never met a ZT that I didn't like. [emoji51]. At this point, my favorite ZT for EDC is the 0456. It is a tad bit on the heavier side. But it just feels amazing in my hand. Love the grip, the open action, smooth rollout and solid thwack on lockup. Rock solid while open, and probably the most ergonomic lock facets to disengage.

But all that being said, if someone asks me what I would recommend as the best all around, most versatile ZT, I'd probably say the 0562CF. I think it has the most "all around" and best combination of ZT features and styling.

Thank you very much .

Based on your specifications in your OP, I would recommend the ZT0770CF - Very nice peel-ply CF, and it is larger than the Leek, smaller and slimmer than the 350, and I find it very friendly for everyday tasks.

If you are into the Rick Hinderer designs, then the ZT0562CF is hard to pass up.

Good luck!

best

I will give your recommendations serious consideration. Thank you , sir.

That's a fine collection , bflying. ( You must be independently wealthy , sir ! :D ) And Bravo Zulu on answering my question as you actually asked it better than I did : The 0562 is probably going to be the first one that I buy. Thanks again.

I own a 0550, 0561, 0600, 0620CF and a 0452CF. All are, of course, excellent knives, but for the size, I love the 0452CF, as it is nice and long, but much lighter than one would expect, plus it's so slim it fits into jeans pockets, and you can still easily put your hand in there to reach the loose change at the bottom, unlike some of the other knives. I'd love to have a 0562CF, though, and the 0450 series is calling me, not to mention the beauty of the 0456. I need to take on an additional job!

For my experience, KAI's assisted knives are no faster than a well-tuned flipper with ball bearings. With a flipper, though, you have more control over the speed and sound of opening, which can be an advantage when trying to be discreet.

Well made trip over to Rivers Edge Cutlery during lunch and looked at few knives. Came down to 0562cf and 0452cf. Was really tough decision but walked out with 0562cf. I can eventually see owning 0452cf as well, ya'll are bad influence .

Ha. [emoji56]. No wealth, I just have a problem. And have trouble selling. Even though I can only carry one (or two, or three) at a time, there is just something that I really like about each one.

Yup! I have a couple Microtechs with Elmax and they are awesome! I wouldn't hesitate to get more blades with it.
