Help sought from Zero Thoughts Aficionados in choosing first ZT , please ...

The 804CF is a good sized knife that carries smaller due to the use of CF and titanium.

The design is great, I have larger hands and prefer a larger knife, so the 804CF gets carried frequently. I also like the all blacked-out look of the knife.

The ball bearings have a washer insert in the CF scale and the knife is smooth and feels quality.

The 3d machined ti clip required a little breaking in (for me) but now it is.....aces.....

I really like the knife.

Hey thanks, mqqn. I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on it tomorrow. I like the blacked out look, but I wish they would have made at least one component with some color.

Do you know if it would be possible to anodize the backspacer, or maybe the screws ? I think it would have been really sharp had they made the backspacer the same emerald green color as the standoffs on the 450cf.

Also just a general question about ZT and Kershaw, but I was just looking at some knives under 50 that are also on bearings is this standard for their flippers ? Are the same bearings/system in this 25. dollar knife the same as the nearly 300. dollar 0804 ?

Just an FYI we have done some where we sanded the flats and anodized them and they are absolutely stunning! They are under anodized knives on our site and there is no up charge.

Actually I really like that 450cf as well. I think I would definitely get the 450cf if it had at least a 3.5" blade, and maybe weighed a little closer to 5 ounces.

Wouldn't hurt to save a hundred bucks on the deal either. I dont know. I'm sure I'll change my mind between the two several times between now and tomorrow.

Wow great work, Whitty.

I do however like the blacked out look of the 0804, but I think a little color would have really popped against that black background. Especially the emerald green from the 450; that is perfect IMO. I cant believe they didn't think to incorporate that into the 0804 with the way it turned out on the 450. I mean lets face it if you've gotta go so ninja that the entire knife must be blacked out your likely not taking a folder to start with. ammaright ?

I guess I may try to anodize the backspacer myself... (unless you offer that service) even though after a short youtube video that looks to be fairly involved, and possibly dangerous. :D

I will still be checking your site for models I am looking for in the future though to see what you have. Very nice work, and some great looking knives.

I'll check in this thread tomorrow. I have to be up in a couple hours so time to call it a wrap on this day. Later.

I think you want to keep to a manual KVT (ball bearings) flipper, titanium frame lock and CF on the presentation side.

You can go light EDC with 0450CF or better yet with 0450CFZDP (3.25" blade).

Step it up with 0562CF (3.5" blade), 0804CF (3.9" blade) or 0452CF (4.1" blade).

All great choices and carry well.

Hey, great to see you so active over here, 8Pow, since I met you on that other thread. You had asked me about the 0801 and I promised you a pic on this thread. As I mentioned, the 801 is a great platform for pimping. The knife is discontinued now, I believe, but some dealers still seem to have 'em, and there's always the Exchange here. The black-wash version is kinda cool and should make a good, mark-hiding user.

You also inquired about the ZTs Elmax, and I'm sure some of the Zero Thoughts dudes here do have some thoughts on that oft-discussed topic.

Good thread guys, I miss the old ZT forum. I am thinking of getting another ZT as I have a 566 and a 350. I sold of a 560 due to being to large but for some reason I find myself wanting a 562 but dont know whether I need to get the 204p or just stay with the elmax version. I do like the CF better but want ease of sharpening. This will be a user knife and I do not want to spend hours sharpening back up.

Thanks

That's sharp, Chazz. I think its safe to say you have squeezed almost all the potential out of that model. Well done. I ordered the 0804cf this afternoon. It departed soon thereafter, and I am thinking it should be here Friday.

Hopefully this one will quench the thirst for a while. :D

Prolly gonna try to figure out how to fabricate something to fill in the opposite clip void. It cant be that hard.... right ?

Congrats Pow, you're gonna love it!!

And Chazz.......super sweet 801 brother!!! Not too much, it's just right!!

For a quick easy filler, I just added a thin piece of leather. Not perfect, but is now less noticeable than the milled void.

I have purchased several knives from USA madeblade and you are right. Scott gives excellent service and was a pleasure to buy from.

Well, you're sure jumping into the deep end of the pool, Pow. That 804 looks like a real sweet knife, though. I haven't handled one, but I too think you'll love it. Pretty sure I would. As far as slaking the thirst, that remains to be seen…. :indecisiveness:

Glad you like the 0801, Joe. I was carrying it for a while. I took it out of the drawer one night and there were major scratches on both sides around the pivot. I spent an entire evening in front of the TV sanding them out. It's back in the drawer for a while now and will be a careful carry going forward.
