First off, let me say thanks for the generosity of the people who have volunteered to step forward and do something like this; especially to Jerry for leading the charge.

Honestly, I hate asking people to donate to the site, and really don't feel comfortable with accepting charity from anyone. I'm reluctant to put in banner ads, or restrict the site to paying customers only, but the facts remain that anyone else would probably have packed it in long ago. Especially when faced with yet another $10,000 in server bills in addition to our standard rack & bandwidth fees. The memberships almost cover our rack & bandwidth fees and I feel that that is a fair trade for the services we render, so if you have a membership, you have my utmost thanks for your support.

Unfortunately, the reality is that BFC operates at a sizable loss that comes straight out of my pocket.

Jerry Busse, Busse Combat & Swamp Rat Knives have volunteered to provide several knives for auction, which will be listed when they arrive. The auctions will be held on eBay, and we'll ship off the knives to the winners. As more knives arrive, we'll auction them off. Proceeds will go towards upkeep of BFC.

If you are a company representative, or knife maker, and are interested in donating a knife / knives, please feel free to do so. Ship them to:

BFC / Twelve Bravo
340 Production Court
Louisville KY 40299

Please include relevant information about the knives (length, weight, blade material, item description, etc) - we'll do photography of them in house.

So, let me reiterate how much I appreciate you guys chipping in to help keep this site open. Ideally I'd like to see all the manufacturers contribute a little something, but that's up to you guys.

Thanks again for your continued support throughout the years, it's been you guys that have made this place #1

The post that started it all:

I think the time is way past due for the manufacturers, and any other willing participants, on BladeForums to sponsor an auction to defray the costs of the new servers and general upkeep of these forums throughout the year. :D

I suggest that every manufacturer toss in what they consider to be a reasonable amount of product and that Spark run an auction to sell this product for the benefit of BladeForums. :D

I am certain that the members here would love to get their hands on some great blades while supporting BladeForums at the same time. :D

Speaking on behalf of Busse Combat and Swamp Rat, we would be proud to offer the first blades for this auction.

Howz about it Spark? . . . Can we, huh?. . . Can we???? :)

I think the support shown by Jerry and the other manufacturers and makers that have stepped up to the plate is fantastic. All the non manufaturer/non-maker members that have offered things for the auction have shown that there heart is in the right place as well. Good on all of ya!

Edited: Nevermind. I think I see how this works.

Is there a deadline for donations? I'm up to my eyeballs in work right now but would like to try an get something together even if it's a small EDC knife.

No problem Kevin, let me see what I can find. Thanks for providing us with a great forum. Kudo's to Jerry for getting this started.

It seems to me that if everyone who uses this forum would open their wallet and become a paying member, it would be a big help.

C'mon guys....$ 10 ain't gonna kill ya. Besides, eating cat food for a couple of days isn't all that bad:D

Package inbound for your auction Kevin.

Please keep the paying membership discussions in the Service & Support forum, thanks.

Spark,

Thanks for giving all of us the opportunity to support our favorite place to "hang" out and thanks in advance for all of the work that lies ahead in running these auctions! :D

This is a good idea and I will support this also. BF and it's members are worth my support.

Limiting the donations to knives is.... limiting. I am DEAD certain BF members have 'stuff' that is valuable and would be willing to auction it off with proceeds to benefit the site. Not just all knives.

Starting an auction forum for a something like this has been done successfully in a number of forums. I would suggest to do the same? I'd be all over that. Why ebay?

Just thinking out loud here. I want this to work for you also.

How will I know which to bid on at eBay? Will it say something in the item description indicating that knife/product is provided for BFC(or something like that?)
I'd hate to be bidding on a knife, and it not be the right one! Ouch!

As I mentioned in the previous thread on this subject, I'll donate a nature photography print (click on my signature to see the sort of stuff I'm talking about) if you are accepting non-knife donations.
