Here's Are Pics & Specs Of The Proto "Mini Muk" . . .

I still say the Talon Hole serves no purpose on this knife and a lot of other smaller knives....
If there "MUST" be a talon hole, at least squeeze it in tight and bring the blade edge in MUCH closer

That's pretty funny. Have you ever seen a design without the Talon Hole? From the Co. website: "This feature is a registered Trademark of the Busse Knife Company". I wouldn't expect there to ever be a design without it. What the heck would I hang my Dog Tag off of? :D

Have you ever seen a design without the Talon Hole?

No.... But, I think it is about time. Especially on the smaller knives. Busse has a pretty stong belief in providing "Functional" knives. The "trademark" is interferring with function.
If the Trademark is just mandatory, I tried my best to accomodate the Talon Hole in these recent modifications. I still say bringing in the blade edge is better.

From the Co. website: "This feature is a registered Trademark of the Busse Knife Company".

So. A Registered Trademark does NOT have to be used on EVERY single product. That just means no other company can use it other than Busse.
Fine .... keep it on larger choppers and some of the Combat styled blades. I can see some functional uses for it - in some occassions - although VERY rarely IMO, but at least it is not as much a detriment to certain larger knives.

I feel each knife should be analyzed and consideration taken to use or not use the Talon Hole depending on what serves the best function. In this knife in particular, the Talon hole is worthless and a detriment to this knife design.

If we have so many "Sterile" blades (no logos), why can't we drop the Talon Hole when it is best? What is the difference? The Logos are being dropped for a reason.
There is PLENTY of reason to drop the Talon Holes on MANY occassions. This is one of them.

What the heck would I hang my Dog Tag off of? :D

Hang it off the back hole .... or don't.... ;)

If function is not important to you, you could Duct Tape your Dog Tag anywhere to the knife you wish. :D - I am just kidding..... But, my point is about function. I would rather have my knives function as best as possible for my purposes than have a "HOLE" that I don't need. This knife does NOT need a Talon Hole.

For my purposes, this is what I feel the the larger BussMuk should be like:

Leave it as is. Without the belly, it isn't of the Nessmuk breed. Don't move the talon hole, if you have used the EDC handle you already know it is best in functionality as Jerry designed it. Besides it wouldn't look like a Busse and having the extra .25"+ of blade is not critical in the use of the knife. It is already designed with small work in mind with very little choking up.

Oh man...I'm REALLY feeling DWRW's changes. I'll take at LEAST one of those!

Seems to me that a proper bushcraft knife should have the blade begin as close to the handle as possible. I like that DW's version still leaves a tiny choil and that it is integrated with the talon hole, but the blade is essentially beginning at the end of the EDC handle. Nice work, DW.

Mob,

SInce when does Busse follow conventions? I'm not sure that a true Nessmuk is Jerry's pursuit, but rather a Nessmuk inspired, yet wholly Busseian equivalent (or better). With that said, I again feel like DW's revision of the Mimi-Muk makes the most sense to me. I DO like the talon hole and want it to stay, but at least in this version, it isn't nearly as obtrusive.

Here's a question for you photo alteration guys.

I don't like big ricasso areas or choils on small knives.

However the original picture with the hole and ricasso appears to give the blade more upward curve and belly like a Nessumk should have. When you chop it off in the altered pics it appears to make the edge seem more flat w/o enough sweep.

Instead of chopping off the hole and ricasso in the pictures is there anyway you can alter it to where you come up with a picture where the handle material just comes up and covers those areas? That gives you the ability to choke up and since the handle would get wider at the top it would keep your hand back off the blade?

Also would still like to see a pic of the proto "in hand"

Nice photochopping DWRW.

Now this... is a really useful knife.

I doubt it will get made...but... I like it a lot.

HEY, that Mini Muk and BussMuk are more or less my designs!:eek::eek:

You were just too lazy to change the handle!

We made two good knives!

Anyway, Mr. Busse, if you insist, I'll take as my payment one of each knife. Contact me!

I do quite a bit of deer hunting here in NJ and IMO the Mini Muk may just be the BEST design for field dressing our little guys. I think it is a vast improvement over the PBS. I never had one, but I never liked the extremely sharp point on it. I think that spells trouble on any skinner/field dresser. I don't like poking holes in anything when I'm gutting game. The PBS just looked prime for pokin'.

Anyway, I would buy a mini muk in a heartbeat. I typically use my HRLM for field chores, but I think I could get used to the M'Muk very quick. Looks to me like the handles are like those from the AD. Is that correct? They look like a perfect match that would be a nice little handful of micarta or G-10 to grab onto. To be honest the same size handle on the Big Muk look a bit out of proportion to me.

So, throw a set of green linen slabs on the satinized M'Muk and I'd be ready to hit the woods. Beautiful design Jerry. Now stop PRO-toing and get to PRO-ducing. Thanks Boss.

I hope you just forgot the smilies from your post to show a sense of humor in calling Jerry lazy. Besides, why change the handles to something less functional and pleasing than what they already have? BTW, you aren't the only one that can draw a nessmuk design and since it isn't exactly like yours it is Busses. You were the first to use "Bussmuk" I believe. That gives you some credit I suppose.

I am sure it will be perceived that I am jumping all over Samek. That's not really the case. It's a great design all the way around and Jerry let alot of us show off talents and opinions on this in the beginning.
I like the design I drew better than anybody elses, but I dare not call Jerry out on it, even though it is as close to the Busse design as Sameks (and I have been bugging Jerry about a Nessmuk design for quite awhile now). The Bussmuk and Minimuk are a very good compromise in all that has been asked while retaining the Busse trademarks. That should be good enough for all of us.

I agree to the drinkin', but now I have to wait until I get back from work.................................. or do I?:foot::eek::D:D:D

I just want to know when we can buy one? And I hope it is offered with the satin finish - very very nice!

And definitely lets get some sheaths stockpiled, so it can be carried asap.

now get the grinders going!!

Great job BOSS HOG I'll take two or three .........oh man the wife is going to kill me ...must be very sly now days she's on to me.:o:eek:

HAHAHA...Anyone think Jerry will comment? Or will he be more tactful and broach the subject through PM?

A gorgeous skinning knife to my untrained eye. Lovely proportions actually. I just cook so I'd grind the cutting edge straight and it would be a fabulous little chopper!
