You know T Rock has major love for the hawks....

2320371746_5f0a537b84_b.jpg

This was taken in Isla Vista, CA
March 8, 2008

I had just bought a big ol' carne asada burritto WITH cilantro
I hopped on my Stumpjumper Comp and rode down to Dog S#@T Park (that is the name on the MAPS!!!)

Every year the students put one couch on this point
It's nice to chill on it at sunset
It's called Couch Point among the locals

When school is over tradition holds it must be burned on Del Playa Ave.
The fire dept goes into OT because of all the couch fires
I know it's lame for the environment and taps FD resources
Let the kids have some fun I say
(It's funny ME calling them KIDS now...I am getting really old...)

BTW....This year the couch was leather!! woot!!!!
Livin' large
Most of the time they are some 70's fabric with rhinstones on it....

Thanks for the contest
That hawk looks sweet

Simple yet effective

Orrey===>Now that is what I call a fish fry!

For those of you who don't know

Reminds me of my Cow Palace/Judas Priest days....

JDS1===>Where's the hammock dude?!!
You got 2 perfect trees right there

This was taken this last Sunday morning at War 2008. It was a beautiful misty morning shared with some great people that I shall never forget.

I look forward to them Mikel:)

Those foggy shots are sweet!!

Well, even though my question was not directly answered, it seems, from comments by j williams, that multiple shots are allowed. Such as this post, where j says "them", indicating that more than one picture is allowed.

Sleeping California Sea Lions
337064709_19d44c8b12_o.jpg

This shot was taken in Santa Cruz, on December 30, 2006.

If you've ever watched California sea lions, you would know that they tend to be extremely surly, belligerent animals. They threaten each other, and attack each other, drawing blood and leaving scars, almost constantly. Their lives can seem like nonstop brawling with anyone who gets near.

And yet... when they go to sleep, they cluster in large numbers, and pile up against each other, and pile on top of each other, with any part of any sea lion pressed into any part of any other sea lion in the most intimate, and sometimes in the most uncomfortable, ways. Then they sleep in seeming peace and bliss, as intimate as can be with strangers whom they were fighting with, moments before.

I take comfort in this behavior of theirs. I keep it in mind, and it gives me hope.

Frozen Puddle

This shot was taken in Tuolumne Meadows, in Autumn, a little under 10 years ago.

While I'd taken some snapshots with a fully automated point and shoot camera, as I traveled over the years, I never had an interest in photography, and never seriously gave it a try. Then I decided to take up photography, and I bought myself a camera with manual control, and went on a trip. This picture is special to me because it was my very first picture, once I took up photography.

This picture also helped me form what I wanted to do as a photographer. I enjoy it for the fascinating mystery to unravel, as to how the ice formed in this pattern. I like making pictures that can pique interest both aesthetically and intellectually, and this one works for me, that way.

Morning, Tenaya Lake
274761164_d93b6532b8_o.jpg

This picture was taken at Tenaya Lake, in July, about 4 years ago.

As I stood there, before the sun rose over the ridge, the temperature was just above freezing, and everything was in deep, dark shadow. Moments later, when the sun rose, the temperature was in the 70s (Fahrenheit), and everything was filled with dazzling light. The sun rose over the ridge with streaky crepuscular rays, like a starburst. Mist rose on the lake, backlit by the sun. The edge of the shoreline reflected and glowed. My camera lens filled with flare. Everywhere, there was interplay of shadow and light.

I felt the deep experience of how the sun transformed the landscape, and I tried to capture this in my picture. Also, this picture helped me formalize some of my thinking about how I wanted to make my pictures express was I was experiencing, and helped me figure out how to do it.

Passiflora Tendril and Leaf Tip
275041175_fe42c56d36_o.jpg

This picture was taken in Santa Cruz, in May, I think, about 7 or 8 years ago.

Every day, I would look at dozens of little passion tendrils. I did this for years, looking at many thousands. For me, it was more about connecting with nature... but it was still a thrill to one day find The One, and record its beauty. It was a bit complicated to photograph, but worth it.

To me, this picture shows nature's perfection, timeless, in its own little world, yet all around us, all the time, if we could just recognize it for what it is, when we see it. I also see in this picture nature's innate intelligence, in the way that the tendril seeks new territory to coil around.

This picture also helped launch my career, which gives it a special place in my heart.

I could go on all day, but one last picture:

Anna's Hummiingbird and Salvia
274802594_b3b64c52b6_o.jpg

This picture was taken at Lake Isabella, a couple years ago, in late Summer.

I spent several days trying to get just the shot I was looking for, with the hummingbirds. This is the shot I came back with.

While I was there, I contracted Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, which very nearly killed me. So, I think of this shot as the picture which almost cost me my life. Was it worth it? You decide. :D

Thanks for the contest.
