here's what we deal with on a daily basis

Go fight fires, be a police officer, or fight for this country, and then we'll see where your opinion stands.

While I highly respect all those that serve, I do not think a lack of service negates someone's opinion, or right to exist and think.

I'm all for getting your point across, but feeling the need to post it on here (names removed or not) is a bit over the top. Posting of the emails was highly un-necessary and potentially embarrassing for the one who sent them and nobody wants or deserves that. E-mails are sent to YOU and YOU only, and should be kept private, if he wanted everyone to know what he was saying, he would have asked it publicly on the forums. You obviously aren't working too awful hard if you have time to get on here and make fun of a customer/potential customer :p.

I just saw this as pointless, dealing with unhappy customers is nothing like what some people "have to deal with on a daily basis." Go fight fires, be a police officer, or fight for this country, and then we'll see where your opinion stands.

Struck a nerve, eh? I refuse to deal with people who have no common sense or reason. And I have ZERO problems with posting up a sanitized email that demonstrates the lack of these important traits. We don't want these kind of people buying our product. If I hurt your feelings, oh well. But I do appreciate your opinion, and you obvious respect for those who we do, in fact, cater to in our business.

Don't understand the problem. It is his subforum, devoted to his company, in which he is the moderator.

If someone founds their own company, would it be professional to make a thread in their subforum calling somebody a douche and a retard? I hope you understand that isn't what he did, and I'm not trying to imply he did that, but simply because you have a legitimate gripe doesn't make it public knowledge, no matter how gently you pad the insults. There is a reason the customer sent his request in an email, and it was to remain private. There is also reason people say "the customer is always right." Of course it doesn't mean they are, but it does mean hold your frustration behind clenched jaws and let it out on the wife at home.

Nobody thinks that the creators of the mighty Izula are guilty of some kind of heinous crime, but we would also like to think that if we had an odd customer request, we won't end up as the knife communities laughing stock.

Now he did mention that he never called himself a professional, and I respect his decision to stick to his trade and not be some superficial business man.

It's just an unconventional approach toward customer relations. Would something like this ever stop me from buying that desert tan izula on my holiday list? Of course not. I just know not to call in and have a special request :D

safety,

RAT has never been "conventional" in it's thinking. We refuse to deal with people who have no common sense or reason. We will, in fact, make fun of those people who lack those skills if they wish to engage us.

You have to understand there are people in this world who were not lucky enough to have the insane God-given intelligence level that you possess. Not wanting them to buy? What if for instance everyone in the world were this way, would you go out of business, or fight through the pain of dealing with them? :p I see what you mean though.

I like rat knives btw, just not how I would have handled it, no bad blood.

You are skewing this whole email. We answered his request, respectfully. He continued to be an ass and we continued to be respectful. Finally, I said "enough" because the guys was obviously trying to push my buttons. I posted his email up, sanitized.

You are blessed to have a profession in which you can do this and sleep under a roof with a full stomach.

I am not in the customer service industry but it seems like to me that this is a bee yotch session about dealing with customers in customer service?? I mean come on I have a real short fuse but if I am in retail I am gonna expect this stuff it comes with the territory. It's like the folks who join the military and then bitch about going into combat.

Never claimed to be a smart guy. I do, however, possess reason and common sense. I also possess respect for another man's decision. The guy that emailed did not. He was disrespectful and I do not want or need business from someone like that. We are not begging anyone to buy RAT Cutlery. Never have. Never will. We do, however, back our customers and product 100 percent, but we're not going to be unfair and give someone something that someone else doesn't get, just because that someone is an ass in his requests and thinks he can bully his way into getting something. RAT is about a philosophy. Some get it, some don't. We're not trying to please everyone. In fact, we hate that premise.

This "profession" came about because of a lot of hard work and sacrifice, so I'm suppose to feel privileged because I am successful due to working hard? No one gave Mike and I a damn thing.

IMO Jeff was sharing (with forum members) the humor in this email (and it is funny!). Its no different than sharing stories with friends and family when your done working and go home. If the ending was ...I gave this guy a new fire rod... everyone would say, AH your so nice Jeff, blah blah blah. I dont blame you one bit, after the second email, Jeff made his point and IMO, this guy was fishing for a freebie.

I say if a public lashing stops some bonehead for doing something simular in the future or sheds some light on Jeff's temperment on some issues.......I say lash away...

You know, even when people work for things, they consider themselves lucky. Being grateful that you have a job in which you don't have to kiss anyones ass is something to be thankful for. Maybe you now have something to say on thanksgiving instead of, "fuck it, I earned it all."
