Hi Noss4!

There is no way from watching the video on my computer I can tell exactly how much force you used, or what degree at which the knife finally snapped. I suppose I could try and count the number of bends you made...but that is quite tedious for the viewer.

I didn't watch every single video though, jsut the first 2 I think.

Correction. You record the "process".

It would be like a scientist filming an experiment, and submitting it to be viewed and analyzed....without including any of his findings or actual data. You will see alot of bubbling liquids and explosions and such...but it is all useless if there is no recorded data.

I'll give you some math if it will make you happy.
a 3 lb. steel mallet
a 220 lb. man
100 hits

You calculate it.

If you would be like a scientist filming this. Then do your own video. I am not a scientist.

I am not a scientist.

Not much of a knife tester either.

Quite honestly this isn't me saying, "I could have done a better job."

This is me saying, "You wasted your time and your money, and I wouldn't ever think to try and re-create this disaster." I'm not going to bother side stepping the situation or being overly-nice anymore.

Your site and threads would make a nice FAQ on, "How NOT to test a knife." An overwhelming majority of the forum here has quite the same opinion as what I have shared. It is up to you to choose to continue with these seemingly pointless video "tests", or put your money to good use and take advice from people who actually know what they are talking about.

EDIT: I am going to bed, and un-subscribing from this particular topic. If you anyone has any overwhelmingly important information they need to share with me regarding this topic, I am always open for PM's. But I doubt much more will be beaten out of this dead and rotting horse.

haha, man you guys are nutz for keeping these guys goin, lets leave the love birds alone ;)

haha j/k guys.

We may never know if you can do it better because I'm sure you never will.

I will continue if you like it or not. Sorry to have to tell you this. This not what you wanted to hear. That is the way it is.

You guys just can't handle it when someone has something nice to say about Noss4

I love all you guys. You make me laugh.

Its cool man I dont have a problem with props even if he is your boy(not sayin either way).

I will say that if you did a little bit of a concession here and documented some of the tests say the # of hits/impacts on each material you cut and the damage that is done, and how many times you bent the tip and even "approxamatley" how far. This would satisfy alot of people I think, but some never will be.

I know you want to do these tests your way and thats cool....keep up the way your doin them cuz obviously your not gonna change em. but give some of the people who want some written evidence a lil something. You might be suprised.

Oh and your helper could record them while your doin it.

Just my opinion, but isn't a lot of this "evidence" that people are requesting things that they can see just by watching the videos? "# of impacts" and such...? The degree that the blade was bent in the vice and the number of times... these are all visual observations. Lets all quit being lazy huh? Does Noss really need to be measuring his pull in newtons? I think that a lot can be drawn from these visual "annihilation trials" (I like to call them that) - moreso than if you were just given a bunch of written stats without the video. I enjoy the tests, look forward to more, and pull the information that I find useful for my own "analysis." I'm not one that is looking for a "side by side" comparison - I just enjoy seeing the beatings that these blades (many of which I have) will take. Just my $.02. Also, I have emailed questions to Noss4 directly with questions/comments, and he has always answered me very professionally - I for one respect the guy a lot.

No I am not lazy and yes I can count, you cant always tell the degree of bend and to some its important. I dont particularly care either way but its just something that I am hearing alot of complaining about. Not only that some things happen off Camera. thats why I asked for a compromise, not pullin teeth here. Besides that we dont all have an hour to sit and watch all the vids...not lazyness its called a life, if you can sit there through all the test great:thumbup: . So if there were some written observations written under each test it would just make things simpler.

I do like seeing the beetings as I am not going to break my knives, nothing against it Noss owns em. I am not asking for anything outlandish or hard.

Another thing, this is small dont worry. Under/next to the vids can you just show a list of whats going to happen in each vid or the tests that will occur in each vid?

I'm not necessarily responing to you barrabus - again, I've read a lot of people's complaints. I guess some compiled data would be nice for a quick reference, but I don't know that the "attack" that Noss has recieved from a lot of people is warranted. I know that Noss has taken suggestions in the past, and I'm sure that his site/testing will progress as well - but - I don't see what the outrage has been about from a lot of forum members. Sorry if it seemed like I was implying that you can't count or that you were lazy - I meant to be a lot more general than that.

I'd second that last comment about labeling the vids - if I don't have time to watch it all, I do like to skip to the "break" or to the folding chair section, etc.

Thanks thats cool and if you felt like my comments were directed at you I apolagize as well. See......COMPROMISE and were not bad mouthing each other isnt this great!

I would say I am looking more for a quick reference, because I really dont have the time to watch all the vids but if there was something that said "vid 1 chopping wood, tip prying, etc" even that would be nice. Its Noss's site and I am not saying whether I approve or disaprove I would just like to see some small changes thats all.

posted first, yup thats what I mean

I hear ya man - again, I'm sure that as things progress, his site will become more complete, he will find a testing regiment that works well, and things will become a lot more standardized and user friendly. Overall, its a great idea, and I'm floored that he has made such a personal investment and shared it with anyone who is interested in the durability of some mid and high end knives.

+2

barrabas74: Thats a good Idea I will label the videos so everyone knows when and were to look for what they want. I'll start this on all upcoming tests.

Good suggestion

Also I will get a better camera angle on the flex test and put a scale behind it.
