Hide Away Knives?

Ordered one (in stock utility, plus cord wrap) for a friend on the 4th, got it on the 10th. I swear I spent a year sighing on this board about the wait, then months for the first one I ordered, but the last two arrived within a week each time. The product is selling itself without advertising or mainstream coverage, that should be a hint to get a staff together and redo the website for the bigger audience. This backlog has me wondering...Just how many HAKs are out there? I've watched talonite models in my size get sold rather quickly, in my emails I've gotten pictures of literal mounds of blanks that were all paid for. They may be selling more than some smaller production lines, yet this is still being run like a side-business.

I Just received my hideaway knife in the mail today from (Hideawayknife.com) I payed for it Tues June 8th,It then went out the next day the (9th),and was received June 15th from Orlando to Canada. Not bad shipping time IMO.I'm very pleased with the product and the shipping time.I would not hesitate to order from their site again.I think that most of their past problems people have experienced with them been resolved with the new shop manager William Ericson He seems to have turned things around for the better these days.

thought he was always the shop manager ???

From what I've read and been told,The woman "front sight" was running it.Then her parents got ill,and she left the business which is when they started to have the problems. Then she brought in William Ericson to help run the shop for her while she looked after her parents.I think hes only been running it for a year for so now,I could be wrong,he may have been there longer. But since her parents became ill shes been gone, and he's been running the show.

that's what most are lead to believe.... but not what I understand to be the truth.

Either way , like anything , the decision to buy or not is up to each person. Nice product no doubt , if it gets run like a business should , it will be successful. Which I sure hope is the way things are now so I can start referring customers to them again.

Well from the feed back I've seen lately, and the timely fashion in which I received
my package. It seems like things over there are shaping up for the better.Thats why I waited so long to order from them.As I would have never have done so a while back. And still wouldn't order a non in stock custom from them. But if your size is in stock,I'd say go for it.But remember I'm only stating this from my experience, your mileage may vary.
On another note. You can pay with PAYPAL,and if you don't get your knife, you can always open up a dispute and get your money back.

Funny I ran into this thread. Been really wanting one of these blades, but then
heard about all this controversy and fuss. But I also see now that Fenixoutfitters.com
sells two of these models in 440c steel. I assume these are from the same maker?
And is Fenixoutfitters a reputable site?

Kind of wanted one of the S30V models, but if I can get this blade for around 80 with
no troubles I'll settle for that.

Ya I wouldn't think twice about ordering one from fenixoutfitters they have some really neat stuff.but to have it sent to me in Canada it was like 93 USD with the 20 USD shipping they charge you,So I went over to hideaway.com and got mine for 20 bucks cheaper.I didn't really care cuz,if the knife didn't show up I would have just opened a dispute with paypal to get my money back.

Went to HideAwayKnife and they didn't have any in the Available Now
Section... Do you HAVE to get a quote or can you just buy off what
is available on the site? Maybe I missed it...

Ok, figured out the site, a little more complicated than need be...
But anyways took the chance and got the basic utility blade with
a couple different sheath options. We'll see how it goes...

Took your advice on the PayPal assurance, Frontline. When did you
place your order?

Hey man I ordered mine on the 9th,was shipped on the 10th,and got it in on the 15th.Just Remember that you only have 45 days to file a dispute with PayPal if the knife doesn't show up.Did you order one that was "in stock?"
Let us know when it shows up and how long it took.
Good luck brother. If all goes well I may order the midnight s30v utility.

Mine was in stock, I went to the available now section. I really wanted the black
S30V Midnight Utility too, but could not justify the hefty price tag. Well I ok, I could
justify it, but my budget is limited, hehe.

Exactly the same situation here.lol I'll more then likely sell this one here, make my money back. And save up a little to grab the midnight. They do look sweet all blacked out, with that S30V,man that's a gotta have! When mine showed up the edge wasn't all that great, super fat, barely sharp. It looked as if they ran it through the grinder once just to set the basic angle then took it over to the polishing wheel. It was like a combination between a high polish convex and a normal V grind.Very crappy IMO.So don't be to disappointed with the edge when you get it.I hit it with the rough stone and took it down to a 20 degree edge. Then brought it up through the stones to a high mirror polish.Much better! All I need now is the S30V midnight to keep/hold the edge.

Well that stinks, I don't have a proper sharpening set up except for
a drag through sharpener I use on kitchen knives which I don't think
is suited for nicer blades. Looks like I'll have to invest in some sharpening
gear...

I used the lansky system to set the 20 degree angle, then I keep things sharp with the Spyderco Sharpmaker. Both are great systems IMO and work well, but for removing metal and setting an angle the fastest I'd recommend the Lansky system.

I've bought several HAKs and I LOVE them.My last order took several months, but I did get it. William was very nice over the phone & even called me back despite me not leaving a message. Small businesses have trouble sometimes, but they fulfilled their obligation to me.I've bought several that involved less than one week turn around, but only one order that took several months. If time is of the essence, ask your questions through email before purchasing. I'm still happy with my purchases & them.

So you spoke with a very nice William on the phone?.
So much for the conspiracy theory of him being made up by front sight.:jerkit:
But if he is some how made up,could some one please provide a link to that information for us?

Well package came today! Boy what a fun package to open. They
put so many goodies in that bag. They threw in some extra colored
cord wrap, like 5 other colors and mine came wrapped in black which
was nice surprise. The fit is perfect. Sharpness is ok. It passes the
paper cutting test, but probably is not hair-shaving sharp, good enough
for me though for now. I'm a happy customer and I hope they can
keep up with the excellent product and service.

Hey Frontline, What's the best Lansky system you recommend? I don't
need sharpening all that often, just for things that need tough up over
time. I was thinking the deluxe or universal kit. Thanks.
