Hide Away Knives?

I got a HAK about 3 years ago.
First order was swift and painless:D ( even shipped across the Atlantic ocean)
Then I ordered some accessories, part shipment arrived, second installment including custom leather sheath never arrived despite emails and Skype phone conversations with Frontsight herself.
Two years later I have decided to write it off as a bad deal and move on.
Incidentally I have given my HAK and bits to a buddy, 'cos it never got carried and had too much bad emotion linked to it.
I would avoid them like the plague - Shame really 'cos the concept is really good, the execution though is very poor

Take care
Graham

Ordered an "in-stock" about 2 years ago along with the clawed strap thing they offer. Took the knife about 2 months to reach me. Paid like $90 for a $15 knife. Strap thing arrived almost a year later. All junk in my opinion.

Well package came today! Boy what a fun package to open. They
put so many goodies in that bag. They threw in some extra colored
cord wrap, like 5 other colors and mine came wrapped in black which
was nice surprise. The fit is perfect. Sharpness is ok. It passes the
paper cutting test, but probably is not hair-shaving sharp, good enough
for me though for now. I'm a happy customer and I hope they can
keep up with the excellent product and service.

Hey Frontline, What's the best Lansky system you recommend? I don't
need sharpening all that often, just for things that need tough up over
time. I was thinking the deluxe or universal kit. Thanks.

Hey man Glad the package showed up! and I as well hope they keep up with the good customer service and timely delivery of the product. If not I hope to see the feed back here.
If you go with the Lansky system, just go with the cheaper 40$ one. Then if you like the edge you get from the ceramic stones, take it to another level and upgrade to the diamond stones.
You wont be disappointed.

Frontline has a good point and I've noticed it too. Looks like if you
dealt with them in the beginning when they were hot it was great.
Then toward the middle for around a couple years they really suffered
in their business practices do to some personal issues with the owner.
Then they put in new management and from what I've seen if you
ordered within the last 6 months or so things seemed to have worked
out for the better. Specially for In-Stock items. Not sure how the
custom side of things are looking.

There's a lesson to be had here though and it's very clear when reading
the experiences everyone had. People take into serious consideration
the customer service and honesty of a company as much as they do the
product itself. No doubt this is a cool concept of a knife and a very nice
product (albeit a few who didn't like it). But the service was so bad that
that it became ingrained into the image of the product itself. So much so
people just dismissed the whole company and product all together. A
shame really cause I think had things been done well they would be much
further ahead of the curve now.

It's probably the reason why companies like Spyderco and Kershaw are
so successful today: they have not forgotten their customer.

there is no " new management" , same person involved since day one.

There was a long thread on another forum, some time ago
It appears that initally there were some very prestigious custom makers working with HAK
However, the impression I get is that this all went sour and that they left

I've heard this before from a few people.
Could you please post a link for us to the information proving that hideawayknife.com is not under new management, and how you know this? I'd like to know where this information comes from.

I think that if hideawayknife.com is lying to us,and saying that it is now being run under new management, and that this William guy is running the show.
I think we should have the right to know if were being lied to.
Any company that would lie about being run under new management,to get us to buy their knives again,is not worthy of our business.

There was a post on this forum I believe indicating that
FrontSite was under new management. That's what I'm
basing my statement off. But as for it being run by the
same person, I too would like to see that info.

Bit of a necropost here....but I stumbled upon a thread today which peaked my curiosity since I've been wanting a HAK for a while now but just can't justify the money for such a single use knife (though somehow I can pony up the cash for a ZT which is twice the price... don't ask me why) and lead me here to this thread. I think the first post on the thread answers the questions on this one as to where the info comes from. Though it should be noted that in my few hours of reading tonight, the more recent the feedback, the better its been about HAK.

Rcas, if the basic concept interests you look into the Fred Perrin products on www.szaboinc.com and look at the Emerson La Griffe (originally a Perrin design as well).

These are for real, I have no qualms about recommending them. I've got a HAK myself and I like it, but it doesn't get the use my Emerson LG does. It's just not on the same level.

I still have my HAK. I do still find it useful for times I just don't want to carry a lot.
I mainly carry folders so it doesn't always come with me. Now it is clipped to the
inside of my backback and has been very useful as a quick access cutting tool when
I travel.

I admit it is a lot for such a small thing. I bought it more cause I liked the concept of
all the carry options. There are a lot of good options at this price level though.

I lost mine a few months back and can't find it anywhere! :thumbdn:

I'll be ordering another one sooner or later.
I'll be sure to post feedback here about the deal.

Frontline, I just got an e-mail today that they have released a new
version of the tiger claw. Looks pretty sweet. Around 80 bucks.
Just FYI.

I picked up a hide away ,"in stock model on there website" an OD green utility model it took over two months and two calls to william to get it. (the first call to william recived a cursory it will ship tommorow lie). The blade also came with some of the finish worn near the tip and a scratch on the ring. If i atempted to trade this knife on the forum i would have to list it as used.

This crap just pissed me off.

When did this happen?
The wear in the finish is more then likely from the buffing wheel he runs them through,as My edge looked a little rough from the get go as well. The scratch on the ring can be covered up by wrapping it with the supplied para cord.

Edited to add: Please PM me his phone number. Just in case something happens with one of my future orders,I can give the guy a call.

Well I placed an order today for a Tiger Striped Straight.
I'll be sure to leave feedback here about the deal when it's done.
Hopefully it will go smoothly.

After reading this thread I wish I had not potentially thrown away over $100 AUD as i have ordered a HAK over a month ago and have not received it. I ordered an in stock model, but keep getting the run around saying the item will be shipped and shipping details sent, but still nothing. Frustrating as they will no longer respond to my emails!
As stated in previous posts, if they are that busy, why not get more help in running the bloody company!!!!
