Hinderer Skinnys

I’ve never had good luck with factory edges, they are mostly all sharpened on a belt, and that means heat. After a few sharpenings where you get into some good steel, it should perform amazingly well. Here’s my Skinny today :)

I don’t like how hard accessing the liner lock is on it. Mine came with some lock stick as well. I do like the stiff detent it makes thumb stud use great. But oh well I’m glad I had it lined up for a trade before it even got to me maybe I’ll get a normal size one instead

I handled the new 3.0 skinny slicer today at BHQ. Had every intention of picking one up but the liner lock was way to difficult to access.

It would be awesome if you all gave the vendors and Hinderer some feedback on the lockbar access.
I have, at length.
This is how we get things changed/improved. Look at the new Full Track.
Simply offering to swap out the show-side scale with a new, modified one would be an easy, low-cost fix from Hinderer.

After using the Skinny yesterday on my job I saw that the edge holding capability was not that great. Before I used it I sharpened the blade on a Naniwa 5000 grit stone and stopped it with 2, 1, 0.5 micron until it was scary sharp. I used a 18pds geomety.

I cut some cardboard boxes (double wall +-20), plastic ribbons which hold boxes together and some soft plastic bubble wrap . Afterwards the knife was really dull. Not what I was expecting of CPM-20CV. As seen in the pictures there light reflecting from the edge where the knife is really dull. It rolled a bit and there was a very small chip.

Today I will sharpen it on a 1000 Naniwa stone and then strop the blade. Lets see how this works.

Does some of you observed the same with the CPM-20CV? Do you know how many HRC that Rick Hinderer heat treats this steel?

Here are some pictures

I've seen that on CPM-20CV/M390, yes. And while cutting cardboard, too. And that happened after resharpening a couple times, at least on my M390 ritter grip.

Will do. I hope they fix it.
Wanted to follow up on this by stating that my knife with lock movement is finally on it's way to Hinderer Knives today. They said they wanted to take a look at the lock.

Warranty claim message was as follows: "Knife has slight lock movement/audible clicking when tested firmly for vertical blade play, and some detent play when closed. I would like for these issues to be resolved."

I'm really hopeful they fix the lock issue, because it's present even with increased lockbar tension (I wanted to see if that would help before I spent time and money sending it in). Detent play is still there, though I didn't expect that to change.

Those skinnys look nice, but them being thicker than a standard 3" is a little odd. The liner access cut looks pretty underwhelming, too.

I'm a fan of .125" stock, though. I'd like to see an uber-skinny 3.5" with a liner lock. I also like the stout liners. If it wasn't 3" long, I'd be all over this.

What a waste of a 3.5" skinny scale release. At least give us some interesting colors, micarta, or actual titanium. Barely more than a rehash of the stock colors that came on all the knives when originally released. :poop:
Kinda what I was thinkin’..
