See... That's kinda funny to me. When I first stumbled over Busse and caught the INFIddiction, HOGs became HOGs because the Bossman saw the true HOG spirit in those HE CHOSE to induct. When I went to BLADE 2007, I did NOT know that I was to be inducted, and neither did most or all of the inducted "class" of '07... You could not ASK to be a HOG. You were chosen & inducted, with a given name created by Jerry, Amy & the Crew. This was not so long ago, and for me it was a privilege... and yes, a sense of honor to belong to the same group as that bunch of great guys, HOGs to the last. I figured that it would be years before I was tapped... Regardless of how many Busse's I owned.

If you think about it, it's kinda like waiting outside an exclusive club to be let in, only to find after waiting, and then being let in, anyone & everyone could now enter without waiting...

...Now you, the first group of iHOGs are starting to see how this might feel to those who have been around, and I mean those who've been around much longer than myself when you all only had to ask to be a HOG.

Right or wrong, good or bad, accept them as we've accepted you, and they have accepted me. We are all HOGs now...
 
Well said Jaxx. I felt a part of the group at Blade last year even tough I was a piglet then and a piglet now. Just enjoy it anyway you can.

Actually the first round of iHOGS had to put forward a case as to why they thought they should be considered to be given the title of HOG,we did not simply have to ask.

I believe those rules still apply for online inductions... Or they should.

Good point Jaxx. Thanks for the input, I'm happy to have been chosen to be a HOG, It's a pretty special thing for me as I'm sure it was for most. Now, how 'bout we all get back to drinkin'!
 
Back when we had a massive influx of iHogs, it was around the same time that Jerry offered up the Hog ASH1 at a massive discount.

This is pretty much the same deal, minus the thread where Amy invites us to send an email her way asking us to write about why we should be a hog.

This time a bunch of you took the initiative. Not a big deal.

Just like last time, where the "real hogs", the one's who've got to touch Jerry, were looking down their nose at us iHogs. It was a sorry exchange and nobody looked good or felt good afterwards. Same thing is happening now, cept it's more ridiculous cause it's some of the iHogs exhibiting the elitism.

Just take a step back. We're just trying to buy some real nice knives, that's all.

Not difficult to become a HOG at all. Actually a lot easier I am sure than when I got my HOG-Name, and when I got my name it was not to get a good deal on knives, it was to be a part of a group.

The rules still apply, so the piglets must put forth a good case and show true dedication, but it sounds like it is different than it once was. But lots of things are different. More Busse knives are being made, so as Hogs are less exclusive, so are Busse knives. The knives have become cheaper, at least on the secondary, as some feel the Hog status has been cheapened. But much of this is good for the Busse crew, which, according to the "Circle of INFI" posted above, will come back and be good for tried and true Hogs. More Busse knives, more variety, more availability, more trading, greater financial security for the company, more activity on the forums, more conversation, more friends to make at Blade, more need for sharing the old stories with the noobs. Ultimately, its a bigger movement, which for some is good, although in any organization (and I deal with this firsthand in many I participate in), there are some who would like to keep it small and more collegial. I say Busse is flowing with the times and doing a fine job at it. You old-guard Hogs still know who you are, and know each other. Hopefully you can also find room in your hearts for new friends you consider Hogs, once they have proven themselves. Jaxx-I thought your long post from above was very well said.
 
I can really care less about this "hog" thing .... As long as I score what I desire and have words with good people, I am straight !!

Well said, Grim, buy some nice knives, and drink, have fun, and get to know a really good group of people. You Busse folks really have something special here. I come from the bali crowd, which attracts some very decent, intelligent, and interesting people--alot of big egos as well, and a-holes--but you find those most places. I've gotta say that the most special thing for me about participating in this forum, is that I am surprised by the exceptional good-nature of the folks who are into Busse knives. Almost across the board, it seems like a very warm, accepting, and honorable group. The pleasure here is in participating, more than buying the knife, and hopefully it will stay that way. I think it will, as long as the Big-Hogs keep setting the tone and reminding us what it's all about.

Beware the elitism, as at least one other internet forum has been destroyed by it. But I also respect those who want to preserve the value and specialness of Hog-dom. I think it's an attempt to keep what is so special here, special, and not water it down. In that I agree, but the Hog spirit is strong, and can defend against any incursions.

Good for the new iHOGS. Take initiative, take action, in my opinion you are HOGS not iHOGS. There is no disctinction. If the Busse Crew inducted you ANYWHERE, you are a HOG, not a divided HOG.

This HOG never looked down his nose at another HOG. Just trying to understand the methods of the new HOGS. Never talked or posted about it, just observed and contemplated the evolutionary behaviors of the "new member mayhem".

Well....I was with you all the way to "we're just trying to buy some real nice knives, that's all". I don't think it's ALL about buying the knives for a HOG, but the knives and the unmatched quality of INFI and Jerry's works are clearly the draw! I have spent thousands on Busse Blades, but it isn't all about the knives for me (I have given away most just to spread the knowledge and provide the BEST AVAILABLE to the most important people in my life). But if it is for you, that's cool too! Busse is something that has different meaning to different people, but at the end of the day, IT'S ALL GOOD! We spread the word, everyone gets the tools, the Busse Crew makes a living. All three of which you can't do in some other countries!

Jaxx stated it the best. Some of us have seen a lot of changes in this AO over the years, and change is difficult for creatures of habit. As long as you show respect for those here before you, you will likewise yield the same respect.

Here's to hoping all of you get all the INFI you want. But if I got something you didn't because I made it to the trough before you, more than likely you can have it if you really want it, just ask. That's the only difference I see in the Old Guard versus some of the new.
