I usually avoid posting in threads like this, as they have great potential to get ugly. But this time, since it's the Busse forum where things have a tendency to not get as ugly as in some other places, I'll say a few things. Sorry if it's long and tedious, but those two words describe me pretty well.
Firstly, in spite of having been a knife enthusiast longer than many of those who would consider themselves 'Old Guard' and quite possibly having owned a Busse before many of the 'Old Guard' ever heard of them, I do not consider myself a real Hog, just a growing Piglet that has been inducted into Hogdom by the grace of Amy & Jerry.
There are quite a few reasons for why I think I'm a piglet and not a full-grown hog: I haven't been to Blade to shake the man's hand even though I very much want to and will try to do so in the future (though it's a long trip). I only found these forums by accident and when I made my first post (I think it was a silly question about which Cold Steel machete I should pick, as some of those were on sale cheap around here and I felt like buying one or three for that price) I didn't know about this Busse subforum at all. My first Busses I didn't get from Busse, but from the very limited secondary market here in Europe. You can imagine the prices (add customs fees from 3 to 10 % and then VAT for 22 % and then add the shipping costs and sometimes another set of customs fees and whatever the seller wants for his own profit...) and the rather sour feeling that left me with as far as the whole secondary market and availability thing is concerned in spite of the fact the knives themselves were and are excellent stuff - this was of course largely my fault for not being more informed. And I would probably still feel that way had I not stumbled on this forum and then stumbled into some incredibly generous hogs here (I'm looking at you, Old Pigsics  ). My 'collection' isn't nearly as large as some, but it's a start, and at least it isn't the smallest one among the hogkind. As far as I know, I have the largest collection of INFI in Scandinavia and/or Finland, but there may be some Scandi stealth hogs out there who have escaped my attention.
Jerry and Amy may know what the case is, at least as far as inducted hogs are concerned. Perhaps I should ask!
I think what I'm trying to say here is that I feel there's a good bunch here and I'm glad to be a part of it. Grimspoon and GPB among others have spoken wise words in this thread that I agree with fully. The reason I sent in my hog application this time was because of Jerry's post in the announcement thread, and, of course, greed. I was really wanting a shot at the SFNOLE, but alas, it was not to be. I tried to quick-sell some stuff (not knives) that I no longer had use for, but couldn't do it fast enough, so that leaves me out of the ganza on thursday. Such is life - no regrets. Next year, I'll be coming back with a bigger wallet and a vengeance.
As for Hogdom and who is and isn't a Hog, I'll leave that to Jerry and his crew to decide.
