Spike can you e-mail me your address again. Not sure if I erased it or what but running to the PO today and I'll toss that sheath in the mail.

Never mind. For some reason Yahoo bunched the emails together. Strange? I'll get it out today.

I missed hanging out here, guys. Despite all of your various debaucheries you're really good influences. Mushy talk over.

You all need to move your fat asses!! :p

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Really need to start working on it. Thanks for the encouragement fellas.

I definitely do need to move mine. My injury seems to have made me use it as an excuse to be a fat ass.

Weight watchers used to work for me. I need to do what I did when I was married, we basically stopped eating out and sadly I ate mostly chicken and veggies. I love vegetables and fruit but chicken I'm worn out on, I have a hard time giving up steak and burgers and the awesomely amazing bacon.

You can keep eating the same if you increase your activity, eventually your cravings will start to go down, and you will not want to eat craploads of food anymore.

That's probably bad advice, but it's been working for me.

Again, I hear ya brother. When I was 210# I was working outside 40 hours a week doing landscaping/trail maintenance and whatnot, lifting 3 nights a week, and going swimming maybe 2-3 times a week. I was eating like a horse but still in the best shape of my life. At 6'4" I wasn't what you'd call a big burly guy by any means, but I was stronger than I really needed to be and more importantly, I felt and slept great.

Turns out, eating the same but standing in front of a bench or sitting in front a computer all the time doesn't work quite as well :o

I don't believe in "diets" per se, and neither do most doctors (except the ones trying to sell you complicated "plans" and "miracle pills"). It's fairly simple really... Eat less crap. Eat more lean protein and a lot more veggies. Drink plenty water. Get up and move around. Lift something other than a fork on a regular basis.

Unless there are other medical issues, that pretty much always works.

I love doing landscaping. Hard, rewarding work.

The last time I went on a "diet", was about 14 years ago. Damn, has it been that long ago? Anywho, it took me 2 and a half months to lose 25 lbs. Funny thing is, I didn't change what I ate hardly at all, just got busy. Rode my stationary bike for 2 miles every morning, then rode my bike for 2 hours every night, most times, just leisurely.

I don't really believe in diets per se either. Getting off your ass and being active will make you lose weight.

burgers, steak, and bacon won't make you fat.

Carbs will make you fat. Potatoes are not a vegetable from any nutritional standpoint. They are sugar. Simple and complex carbs hit your metabolism like a ton of bricks, signaling an excess of fuel which causes your body to store the extra as fat on your body for later.

Fatty meat will satisfy your appetite. lean chicken and salad will leave you hungry and snacky. Fats take several more metabolic steps to convert into fuel, and follow a different chemical pathway. They will not trigger fat storage mechanisms.

Nearly any food naturally containing fat that is labeled 'lowfat' or 'fat free' has had the at removed and the missing volume replaced with more carbs. Often sugar added. I have a vendetta against fat-free yogurt in particular, in which the natural (and good for you) saturated fats have been replaced with fruit 'preparations', which basically means fruit preserved in sugar syrup. It has EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE ADVERTISED EFFECT on your body. Bad Bad Bad. Read up if you think I'm crazy.

The lowfat food movement of the 80's and 90's has poisoned the minds and bodies of generations, and fattened the wallets of the sugar lobby.

I eat whatever I want and just do calories. Calories-in are capped. Exercise buys me more calories in a given day. Easy enough.
You learn pretty fast that the nutritious foods will fill you up and don't burn all your allotted calories.
Eating high-cal crap or overloading early-on means going hungry for the rest of the day.

Wow, this thread went all kinds of interesting places while I was traveling. A Cap sighting, talk of Firefly, etc. Good stuff!

In other news, got my MP5 .22 in yesterday. Just need to schedule some range time to play with it.

I think I ate my weight at the steak & wings buffet last night, and sci-fi is for sissies who live in their mom's basement. That is all.
Hey....I don't live in my mom's basement!
Something something danger zone.

I need to jump on the move my fat ass challenge. This broken foot and not being able to go on day long woods excursions has me up to 250. Not very attractive on my small 5'8 body. I say this like I have the inability to choose a nice crisp salad over the french fries, though...I think that's my big problem maybe...
I hear ya. I'm 5'9" ish and around 220....it's important to remember you don't "have to" or "need to" eat as much....I've started to lose a little weight just by eating less, and really focusing on it without distractions (no TV, no reading) although I don't always succeed. It's working so far....I actually lost weight when I was laid up with back problems (although I had no fitness!), but since starting to work again put some back on, now trying to be cognizant of what goes into the pie hole and how much. It is difficult to change habits, though, and especially NOT helpful to beat yourself up. Eventually the new habits form....

This one's for you, Terrio.

Over the past couple of months, I put together a medium Alice rig on a frame.
Bottom part is the smaller waist pack, but I also picked up the sleep system carrier, which can go in the same spot and hold more gear.
Here it is next to the BPP.

:D:D:D My Yuma came. :D Thanks so much, Woody!

This thing is AWESOME!!!! Now, excuse me, I'm going out to use this thing.

Good dietary advice all around. Daizee hit the nail on the head about carbs. I love fries but that is the extent of my potato eating...my big problem is bread, I'm a bread junkie.

I think once I can get back on a portion control and exercise regimen I can drop the weight, I think what really surprised me is the speed at which I put back on weight versus the time and effort it takes me to lose it.

A friend of mine calls it the Math Diet. It works, but folks can't underestimate the calories they're consuming or overestimate the calories they're expending.
