gave my nephew his graduation present tonite. he likes it, did a lil squealy sound and beamed ear to ear so I think I must have chose well LOL

Got a quick question for those in the know. I am going to make some wood scales for an izula that I'm giving my brother, and was wondering if there is a good way of protecting the finish on the knife while I sand the scales down. I am referring to the finish on the edges of the handle, and not the blade.

I'm not in the know, but I think something like painters tape or duct tape (painters tape is probably better) might work....

87 left, if you guys don't decide, your gonna end up choosing between PB tweener scales and a paracord bracelet made of safety green and hunter orange....

Make a sheet metal print of the handle you want to make to the izula's handle. Bolt the pieces to either side and sand away.

a GOOD way? No.
wrap the blade in painters tape.
Sand the things to fit. you're going to mate the wood and the steel, which means sanding them together. Then sand them together to a finish grit. Then you'll find the finish on the spine of the blade to be inadequate, and you'll have to refinish that too.
If you can keep the grit at 120 or higher you'll have less finish sanding to do, but you don't want to burn the wood. Use fresh abrasive.

If that's unpalatable, make a pattern with something like... carboard or plastic? sand to THAT. but then you're one level removed.

I flipped it in the first 30 secs.

This sounds familiar...

Guyon,

What knife is that you have in your pack?

What he said. Freakin' beard dust awesomeness.

good lord folks!
I go away for 1 freaking day and you start up a new snark thread and fill 11 pages?
(I know this is on page 12, but it's not full.................... yet...)

Snarkin' double time.

I just ordered a new camera which means bad news for my knife collection, good news for all of you. My BK12 (#257) and BK10LE will be going up soon! I hate to see them go, but neither of them have seen action, I cant justify keeping high dollar blades that don't see action when I make a huge purchase like my new camera. Oh yeah, the new camera is a Canon 5D Mark II for anyone that cares to know, freaking thing costs more than my first car, I sure hope it's worth it!!

if the handle is same material as the SOG hawks..u shouldnt need a handle, the SOG handles are STOUT! I have tried to break them...I hate products that advertise as ''unbreakable'' I take it as a personal challenge LOL

i saw these SOGs at Walfart, for $10, and i laughed and thought 'sell out', but well, who knows?

Actually, I thought the Captain would get a kick out of that. Here 'tis. I still don't have a Becker patch. :p

Nice Case. That's a keeper, something he'll treasure forever, sure. I like trappers.

well i have successfully avoided getting hit by a car this morning, or struck by a falling piano so I have that going for me.....but I still have another 9 hours to go at the office before I can celebrate.

I almost got sideswiped by some idiot playing on his phone last night as he passed me. Then he slowed down and I was gonna pass him and he swerved into the passing lane. I hit the brakes and the trailer he was pulling barely missed me. After that he was going over the center line and onto the shoulder. I'm not sure, but he musta been drunk too or something to be driving that bad. I ended up calling into the ND state radio emergency line and got the idiot pulled over. I stayed behind him until an HP pulled him over.

I sure am glad that I'm off for a couple days now. I have to mow the grass and fix some soffit today. If I get them done I'm heading to the rifle range for a while to blow off some steam and relax.

Giant box of kydex in my Jeep, gonna need molded soon. Does anybody have a Brooklyn Decker mold?

That's a sweet rig. I hope it's paying for itself! What kind of glass are you using on it?

Since I'm only doing a few paying gigs a year, I went with the 7D and its been really nice, although there are times I wish it was full frame.
