Honey, why don't we get drunk and SNARK?!

Does is make sense to strop (with compound) on a knife with a V-edge? Since it's not a convex edge?

Also for those of you with a Work Sharp, do you still use a strop or just the ultra fine belt?

I'd like to try stopping on a legit strop, but I'm wondering if I'd have a need once I eventually get a Work Sharp.....

I wouldn't mind knowing this either.

As for the V grind stropping, it does help, I forgot who posted the "how to strop properly" or whatever it was called, but the thread showed with paracord and a piece of wood I think, what your strop should look like while stropping. Anyhow, that's how he showed it, and the way I understand it, stropping just polishes the edge as far as I know.

Absolutely you can/should strop a v-ground knife on a strop with compound. I do it daily. It will yield a wicked edge with a "micro" convex.

Edit: If you've never tried black compound you should. It gives a toothier edge. It will change your life.

...and it knocks down the burr. Stropping takes a decent edge to that next level of sharpness. Lately I've just been using a piece of naked leather or the palm of my hand to strop, and it really works wonders on an edge.

PAPER WHEELS!

Seriously, they are cheep n work amazing.

Hmmmm..... where might a person get one of these setups?

Ok, thanks for the confirmation. I've got a strop and compound in my cart and I just got that nagging thought before I ordered it.

Jerry Fisk uses his hand as well. If you ever feel the need to go even sharper than that, flip open the phone book and stop it few times on the pages.

CCMI, that is a very generous giveaway you have going on.
If I hadn't already won a machax, I would be all of over it!

Yeah, I used to use newspaper, and there was definitely a difference.
In my experience with 1095, it cuts better with a highly refined, low grit edge, if that makes sense.

Woodcraft has paper wheels, and then you need a bench grinder. My whole set up was like $55. I have got an almost mirror edge on a factory bevel.

This is my 561 factory bevel and 5 minutes on the wheels

Agree 100% A 220 grit belt, a few passes on a fine india stone and little stropping to de-burr it and it will cut like a chainsaw.

5 hours till I gota get up n head to the airport. Got all the sharp stuff packed away nice and safe, in my checked luggage.

Yeah, you can strop V edge knives, but not to hard otherwise you'll round the edge and make it go all retarded and dull. If you have some old leather and polishing paste you can make a very good strop, I've got several professionally made ones with the compounds on them but they dont work aswell as an offcut of leather and polishing paste. With the WSKTS I dont think you'll need a strop since the 6000 is the equivelent of that.

y'all make me feel very dumb. I struggle to just get a decent edge on a knife, without making it duller then it was....and y'all make hair-splitting edges at will. I really hope I pick up a couple tips at the Gathering
