Horsewright Knives and Leather

So here's what I decided to do. I'm building (bout 4/5ths done as of this writing) each of those knives a Slotted sheath. I carefully considered my other options but went with the Slotted for several reasons. The Slotted sheath is very versatile. It will literally work on your belt 360 degrees. Most other sheath types are right or left handed or need to be worn here or there but not so with the Slotted. And, as several of you have mentioned it does drop in a pocket pretty darn nice. I don't really foresee a lot of pocket carry with these guys because of their size but...I have a neighbor across the way that carries a Sonoran Hunter in the tool pocket of his Carhartt jeans, so yeah doable. I really want to sell these guys as a set and if for some reason a guy wanted to carry both on the belt at the same time with the Slotted sheath he could. Other sheaths seems much more like he'd have to do one at a time or carry one in a less than ideal spot. Slotted it is.

Did I mention I really want to sell these guys as a set? Yeah probably did. Anyhoo, I have a thingy I call a Pac Pack and they would be ideal for that. Many ardent hunters keep the big knives in the pack until needed and might carry a folder in the pocket or a little fixie on the belt. This idea caters to that deal. Here's a Pac Pack with a Sonoran Skinner and a Sonoran Hunter below in Slotted sheaths and a Sonoran Belt Knife in an old style Horizontal sheath to well...carry on the belt, on the right.

The Pack Pac safely carries and protects your bigger knives in the pack. If the situation arises you still have the Slotted sheaths to belt carry or pocket carry the hunter or skinner.

Heck I've even personalized them with brands and initials etc.

Haven't built one in some years but these guys might need one what do ya think?

Is the Pack Pac with a belt loop or loops (or slots) an option?

BUCK had a double side by side sheath for the factory pairing of 103/102; 103/105; 103/108(?) and other paired sets with the 103.

IF the primary purpose of the pair is hunting (it could be to my old eyes ... a skinner and caping blade combo?) the side by side sheath would make the most sense, IMHO.

That pack pac is a great option, sit well in a bag or in truck till you need. Really like the design.
I guess it depends if it cost effective for you.
That's kinda the kicker. If I make the Pack Pac I'm definitly entered up into selling them as a set. So I was thinking of holding off and offering it somewhat discounted if the potential customer wanted it. Kinda tough doing some stuff on spec.

I like the idea of the Pack Pac as I probably wouldn't belt carry the skinner. I would belt carry the hunter. So Im not sure which id choose 🤔 Maybe both for options. 🤠

The Pack Pac could be made with belt loops. Slightly more complicated but not really a deal, but I would find it bulky on a belt personally. I'd always visualized the Sonoran Belt Knife as the caper:

I wouldn't want to carry the Pack Pac on my belt. That Sonoran Belt Knife sure is a beauty. 👍🤠

Sounds like a good idea to give the option to the customer.
I agree about the belt loops. Maybe a couple of D rings on the back or side & detachable shoulder strap, so it carries like a small possibles bag. Although it would be an optional extra as it would add to the cost.

We had a great day! It was rough on the water though. I would say that approx half of the fishermen didn't fish, they were just too sick. There were some that were very very sick. It was the first trip out since a storm on Monday. Very cold in the morning and a high wind out far that followed us in when we came in closer to try shallower water. The fishing was a little slow because of the wind. Even still we did ok. Neither of us were bothered by the motion fortunately. It was so bad the Deckhands were falling down. Heading out, still in the bay no one is sick yet:

Either the water was rough or the land was crooked. I'm going with the rough water.

My first fish of the day was my largest too. This is a Lingcod and they must be over 22"s in length to be kept. This guy taped at 26". Interestingly the meat from lingcod are the same light turquoise blue that he has here in the pic.

My daughter Aly did good too and she had a great time as well. Roughest water she'd ever been in:

This is a Red Rockfish, limit two of any size:

It was the only red either of us caught and her largest of the day.

Ok got the sheaths finished off so here're our pair:

I used heavy, (10/12 oz), chestnut saddle leather for the sheaths:

And somehow I forgot to take a pic of the other side of the Hunter, and here is the Skinner:

I'm pretty happy with how they came out. What do you think?
