Hossom Forester!!!!111!! BBQ

A few have commented that the knife looks huge, and I guess by Spyderco standards it is, but I think you'd be surprised by its easy handling for such a large chopper.

I'd like to second that. It must be one of the most comfortable knives to hold that I have, irrespective of size.

All the ergo's have been worked out on this one!

Thanks Jerry:thumbup:

Forester is 9", Forager 7-1/2, Woodlander 6", Dayhiker 4-3/4". Sizes are approximate. Actually, the sizes are what I had aimed for and missed when I made the prototypes, and Spyderco copied what I did exactly to include the amount I was off in the lengths. Hey, that's what custom knives are all about. :)

The logo is quite subdued IMO. It is not a big black logo. Most of the photos in this thread highlight the logo more than you see it on the actual blade.

In the three branches I quickly chopped to get an initial feel for the blade, I found no interference from the logo...just like Mr. Hossom stated. :D

So, was the Spyderhole made especially small to make the blade seem bigger? If so, it worked, not that it needed any help in the first place.

I don't think that's technically a spider hole. It looks to me like a hole for a lanyard. I have been wrong before.... lots.

As far as I know, the hole is both a Spyderco trademark Spyderhole and an attachment point for a forward wrist lanyard. Pretty clever, really.

Great pics Zen, that is a HUGO HUGE KNIFE!

Awsome Pics! I hope to receive a #162 Forester in Mondays mail. I will try to get some pics of my own up ASAP. I am more EXCITED about this purchase then I have been about a knife for a long time!!!!!

I've read several times that knife features a fully radiused spine. But I can't see it on this photos.

I tested that and concluded the logo did not appreciably interfere with the knife's ability to cut and chop. :)

In any case there are three smaller sizes that some may prefer. Has anyone here received one of the other sizes or are only the collector editions being shipped now?

Hi, Jerry, just ran across these new Spyderco bigblades. What would be the blade thickness on the Forester?

thanks!

Andy

How come these are made by fox in Italy, and not actually made by Spyderco??.

Fox has some very sophistocated CNC capabilities, including those which are needed for my handles, and they had already produced prototypes of these for another company. Also they had done a great job on my folder collaboration with the other company.

The three largest knives are 5mm (0.200"). The Dayhiker is 4mm (0.160"). As a point of reference the Forester weighs just 16.9 oz, which is pretty light for a knife that size.

I'll try to get a pic of the fully radiused spine. I'm not sure my photography skills are up to that though.

Cool. Thanks for the Info Jerry. Its nice to hear it straight from the horses mouth:)

Right purty knife too....beautiful handle color...Awesome pics.....you can see the hairs on a gnats ass with that camera.

Guess I'll have to turn into a street pharmacist to get some money for this one...LOL

YO YO YO, A hollar out to my peeps, I'll trade some dime bags for some dead presidents so I can continue to accelerate my collection of whack witness intimidation shanks. Word

Well, it looks like there are a few of the other sizes getting out there, and I should have a FB17 on its way to me. :D

Hey Michael,

Any idea when the smaller versions of the Hossom are going to ship? I'm assuming that these will also be numbered for CC members who get all variations.

Thanks

I may have to have that dayhiker...man these are some SWEET blades. Can't wait to see more in action. I gotta call my local knife store and get one on order!

that's a nice knife. is the blade balanced like a machete (weight is forward) or more like a camp knife (less forward than a machete)? does it chop like a camp knife or a machete? (I don't know how to describe the feel, but take for eg. Kershaw's outcast isn' balanced like a machete but a camp knife).
