Hot Off The Bench!

I'm pretty sure he can make a damascus framelock. It wouldn't be that much different really.

A hint about the thing I asked Darrel to cook up for me: something with the pocket clip.

EDIT: I also have a totally new idea for an assisted mechanism that I haven't run by Darrel yet. I want to try to make it myself first. If it works, I'll see what Darrel thinks. Then he can feel free to do as he wishes with it. Gotta do a bit more research before I go in the shop. I have the concept down in my head and don't see why it wouldn't work.

Let me tell you though, if I can pull this off, it will be the future of assisted mechanism. I feel very proud to have this relationship with Darrel Ralph et al. I know he likes to innovate. This is really innovative.

This I won't spill the beans to since someone else may beat me to it if I do.

If anyone asks, I don't make knives. I have designed a few here and there. Check my harkanto if you do a search. I also have ideas in my head for stuff that can improve on existing things.

Is it an extra-extra-large pocket clip with "Big Hark Daddy" emblazoned on it in semi-precious stones?

Damn, you figured me out! I was all ready to get it kitted out with pink rhinestones too!

Nah, lol, it's nothing like that. :P

How long does a custom take to make, and how long does a regular htm gunhammer take to make?

Customs...depends how custom. I know I placed my order close to 1.5 years ago. Maybe even 2 years ago. I lost track. HTMs are easier to obtain. You just have to find a dealer that has them in stock.

What about directly from htm?
They often have some in stock as well. I had placed an order for a couple Torpedo Gunhammers directly from HTM, but there weren't any available at the time I ordered. However, they had them back in stock within a few months.

If you're eager to try Darrel's designs, I'd suggest giving the HTM models a shot before taking the plunge on a custom, due to the lower price point and shorter wait time. That'll help you to figure out what you like so you know exactly what you want when you're putting in your custom order.

I already have an htm gunhammer being made, lisa emailed me when the scales were finished a while ago. A week or so later I asked for an update and she said it was in assembly. What does that mean in length of time. So far it has been four months.

Generally doesn't take that long in my experience, but in the past 4 months there have been a few major knife shows, so a lot of work went into finishing custom knives for those shows. Also, January is the Shotshow, so Darrel's attention are on some projects he's unveiling during Shotshow 2012. I may or may not be in attendance of that one. Haven't decided yet.

I am not sure how many people know this, but despite HTM being the mid-tech line of Darrel's knives, there is still a lot of handwork that goes into each HTM knife. Send her another email for an update. Otherwise, I can PM you Darrel's number.

Of course I said all that forgetting about all the shows, but I am pretty sure its literaly right around the corner. I just really would like it before christmas.

Just shoot Lisa an email. She should be able to give you an ETA.

I ordered a gunhammer a couple of weeks ago, after reading the posts in this thread, I decided to email Lisa for an eta. She said they might get mine done before Christmas. I ordered a stock auto gunhammer with radian blade, nothing extra. Very excited to get my first htm, let alone my first quality knife. I can't wait, I really wanted Lisa to say " we shipped it today!" but I knew that was too good to be true.
Side note: I have really enjoyed reading this forum, keep up the good work!

Post up some pics when you get it! Great to hear that we've got another in the crew. Gun Hammer is a GREAT knife.

I have to say that the designs on all of these knives really are unique but not so out of the ordinary that they look impractical or stupid. The balisongs tend to be my favorite, they all look very clean and like a "show knife" would, but the materials they're made out of make them really good knives.
I've also heard a lot about how good the tolerances on these are, but I never really believed it until I went to the NYCKS show and handled a couple. The handles have so little play that its almost strange to see (not that I would complain).
Best of all, Darrel is a really nice guy and enjoys talking to customers and fans of his knives and isn't so wrapped up in selling that he forgets what it's all about.
I really look forward to being a DDR/HTM customer soon, but for the time being I'm still saving my pennies haha :D

Yep. I love ETAC grip texturing as well, but mine will be an inlaid liner lock. I just have a thing for linerlocks. Plus, I don't use my knives anywhere near as hard as to feel like I need the added strength of a framelock. Mine will be stone washed titanium with a stone washed 4 inch non-recurved bowie blade in Elmax steel with something else I had Darrel cook up just for me.

button lock?

It's just something with the pocket clip. It's actually quite simple, but enough for it to be a custom feature I requested personally.
