How bad have you cut yourself with a knife?

my worst cut happened at work when i was showing a timberline Wortac to somebody. i showing how to hand a saber grip. like a moron i took the knife out off my right hand with my left hand. the serration drop and riped my right index finger on the side. i got to say a sharp cutting through flesh burned a little. the blood didn't start flooding until i opened it. got 3 stitches for it. i was luck that i didn't hit any nerves or anything.

Blade opened on a small CRKT M-16 Carbon Fiber clipped on my pocket as I pulled out my hand.
Cut about a 3 inch gash about 1/4-1/2 inch deep. Found the detant very sloppy and the scales barely covered the tip. CRKT very interested, and its' going back to them for inspection. Had lots of others in my pocket the exact same way...NONE opened and NONE bit the hand that bought it.

Okay Okay..I'm new here, so just bear with me
At the beginning of this month while I was at my mother's office helping her with some things, I was trimming down a box with the serrated blade of my Leatherman wave....I don't know how it happened, but my left index finger worked it's way under the blade when I got to the corner of the box. Luckily it didn't hurt, but my finger started GUSHING blood and there were several little drip drops on the floor all the way to the bathroom where I got some paper towels and applied direct pressure.
I went to the emergency room where Dr Free gave me 4 stitches
I just got the bill in the mail.....$18 thank goodness for the Oregon Health plan:cool:

Here's a really ignorant one. 13 stitches to put the pad of my left thumb back on, took it a little over half-way off with a sharp putty knife. I was at work stripping laminate off a table top, and had just got finished sharpening the blade on a sanding block. You can get those thin putty knife blades pretty scary sharp, and I found out the hard way just how sharp. Same old story, don't cut in the direction of your body, and I did just that.

I also found out that I wouldn't make a very good steak, cause my "meat" looks pretty stringy.

The so-called "pain killer" shot I got under my thumbnail was much worse than the cut itself. The cut didn't really hurt that much at the time, but I imagine that was because of adrenalin. I had never before seen what I look like on the inside, it was rather disturbing and morbidly interesting at the same time. I don't need to do it again, though.

That was about 7 years ago, and I still have some spots on the end of my thumb that I can't feel too well.

At that point, I decided I was only qualified for a desk job, and went back to fixing computers instead of furniture.

I was flipping my BM42 round & round last night and on an attempted aerial it dropped into my left calf about 1/2" deep. Split right open, but didn't bleed much. Three butterflies and it's closing right up. The wife was ticked this a.m. that I didn't go for stitches.

I don't need no stinkin' stitches...

:D

I had gotten one of my kukris stuck in it's scabbard - the wood and leather type. Couldn't push it in or out. I sat on the edge of the bed, held the sheath tip up (WTF was I thinking? :o), and forcefully banged the handle into the carpet.

The tip of the blade went completely through the scabbard, and completely through the palm of my right hand, between the thumb and forefinger. My car then was a stick, so I had to go next door and have my neighbor drive me to the ER.

I had severed a nerve going to my thumb, and had to have reconstructive surgery. To this day, the thumb still feels like it's asleep.

I, thank God haven´t cut myself as bad as some of you guys, only 2 times worth writing about.

First I was about 14 or 15 and was playing with an "old timer" folding knife and was stabing the side of a table, I was bored, then the phone rings and I miss the table stabing my left hand in the palm to the bone, hurt like hell... :(

The other time I was sharpening my SAK and it slipped cutting me into my left index finger to the bone, lost senations from there to the last falange to the tip but lucky me, 2 years later the sensation came back.

Bad but not nearly as bad as with a hand saw and circular saw. Circular saw accident is in my more recent experience as four weeks ago I took a slice off my thumb. I had just thought that should I make safety piece to support my small target so that I wouldn't have to touch the actual target but decided that noo - I can watch my fingers. The circular saw is one of those bigger table models (5 hp motor) and suddenly small strip teared apart and the part that I was holding was sucked under the table (slits between saw blade and table are 1/4 inch. My thumb followed...
Didn't loose any bone and most of fesh has lucily grown back. Still can't use fingertip - no onehanded opening. Now I belive that nobody really respects power tolls before they have felt the power...

...lucky me, no stitches yet...not that I couldn't have used a few, but it would have been just that, a few...

Some 8 years ago I stabbed a Spydie Endura into a palm tree in a fit of stupidity...I collapsed the lock, and cut my right index finger, 1st digit...a little blood, nothing major... (dumb)

Some 8 weeks ago I was showing a pal my new Ryan Wilson #2, somehow the knife got 'fumble dropped', resulting in 3 separate cuts in about a half second...good thing we were drinking, or I may have had to go to the hospital... (dumber)

'little scars, fond memories'...lol

Working a Crossroads gunshow last year, selling knives that we'd inherited...Spyderco Moran, some old guy, wants to know if it's 'sharp'...Pressing down hard with his thumb while looking at us and asking the question... (dumbest)

I don't know what registered first, his nerves sending the "Hey stop it!" signal to his brain, or our look of stunned disbelief!

They keep EMT's on the payroll at those shows, just in case...and he certainly qualified as a 'case' ;)

Didn't even buy the 'sharp' knife though...'schmuck'...lol

Well never cut myself badly, but have cut myself with my 910 HS. It was just a little sliver off the end of my thumb. Didn't hurt when it went in because it was so sharp. However, it began to sting like mad becuase I was cutting lemons at the time.

I also got cut by my matriarch. i just got the Militec in the mail and was lubing my knives. This had been a bit stiff and needed a little shake to start it closed with one hand. Well, it was now loser and proceded to bite into my index finger's first knuckle with those teeth. Again, no pain, just lots of blood. Great serrations Spyderco!

When I was a little kid an elderly gentleman could be found on the park bench whittling various figures out of pieces of wood. He had a wooden leg and when he needed both hands for something, like lighting his pipe he would stick his pen knife into his wooden leg. This event usually happened when a new kid was watching and always resulted in wide eyes. One of the kids went home, did some whittling, then tried to stick the knife in his leg just like the knowledgable gentleman did. His mother wnated to know "Just what in the he-- were you thinking of?"

One kind of cute cut story.

...before you realized he had a 'wooden leg' Ed? I mean, how many times did ya stick yourself before ya... :p

Cute story Ed, still laughing, thanks!

Buds,

Sheldon

I was sharpening a Tramantina machette with one of those carbide sharpeners that you pull down the edge of the blade, I had it clamped in a vise and was running the shapener down the blade when my friend pounded on the door to my garage and it startled me and slipped and ran my forearm down the blade, thank god I had just started and it wasnt that sharp but I still have a nice scar that run's about 4" down my forearm wasnt that deep though.

Melvin: You had to know the man to appreciate it, he was a great guy, had millions of stories and we all loved him greatly. Fond Memories. I have to admit I kind of always wanted a wooden leg to carry on the tradition. I did think about sticking my leg just to see, but resisted the notion. It always was a dramatic event, "THUNK" and his wife got a little tired of stitching up his pants.

Got home from the dentist and found my new EK Mini-Comm. had arrived. I just couldn't wait for the anesthesia to wear off, I had to see how the wave worked. It worked great, leaving a superficial nick in my index finger (which had been ever so slightly in the way as I deployed). Hurt just enough to take my mind off the pain in my mouth for a little bit. Mini-Comm. has been set aside til tomorrow. Thank gawd my BM 31 Bali did not show up today......

Sheldon, are you sure it was Alex you wanted to thank and not awcovert1? It seems we have someone else who likes to post hostile responses to some peoples comments. Hmmmm?

I can actually say I've never really had a bad cut. Mostly, because they've always been able to sew things back up, re-attach members, etc.

I've been deeply lacerated by everything from a #10 can lid to a coconut (there's a good story here).

But no complaints so far!

Dan
