How do you store your traditional knives

I store It in my pocket with the change. Yeah I'm one of those. Gear? How do I prep for airplanes falling out of the sky? Survivalism didn'T work. This fad won't either.

Unfortunately I've run out of space.

Wow. What a nice collection.

I use an oak machinist's tool chest.

Did you get that at Costco?

What a great use of an old cassette holder.

Aside from a few cardboard boxes in which I keep my boxed, unused knives with a few packets of silica to keep those nasty spiderwebs away, I keep my daily drivers in a little-used desk drawer that contains some extra, rarely-used office supplies. I started putting the day's carry into the drawer at night and over time it got a little out of hand...

The front section is mostly Barlows and fixed blades, with a little partitioned area where jacks, pens, scout knives and my Case stainless lockback all live.

In the back, the bigger fare. Trappers, stockmans, a seahorse whittler, a big sunfish, a soddie, a folding hunter, etc.

The miscellaneous knives, mostly Barlows. One of the many reasons I need a better system. :D

Pelican Case for protection, security, portability and accessibility. Before this I actually had cut out a custom mold slotting the knives horizontally instead of vertically for my daily rotation.

I've seen your setup before, and it looks great. Vertical orientation makes a lot of sense.

I've read that there can be damaging interactions between guns and foam during long-term storage. Are there any similar concerns for knives?

A nicely thought out and well organized system, Tim, and well executed to boot.

Any concern with moisture in the foam (particularly since it's a water-tight case and would hold it in if there were any moisture present)?

Thank you Barrett, I keep the carbon steel knives pretty well oiled unless they're up for rotation..and I keep some silica gel packets burrowed on the bottom layers so hopefully that should take care of it. I've mainly used these sorts of cases for camera gear and modern knives with stainless steel so that actually rarely crossed my mind.

Hm I've heard of such concerns with guns and condensation. I'd hope that oiling them on the regular and keeping the gel packets would hinder those risk factors.

I keep mine stacked loose in two hanging plastic drawers in my crappy safe. It is knife abuse, pure and simple!

Every few days, I rotate a knife or two.

Yeah thanks Mike I was stoked to get it done hold a lot but it will be filled with favorites

How much would you say the pelican case with the foam was

I keep my knives in a box (those I use less), some in 1095 in Sack-Ups protectors in an old Texas Instruments pouch, others in unexpensive Citadel zipped pouches storing 2 /4 knives depending the size.
Knives I use regularly have their own sheathes.

My grandfather has an old rotating ring display from a jeweler's shop. he took out the ring holders, and added shelves to it. It is very handy when going to knife shows, the display holds 42 knives, all behind glass doors with a key lock. He gets more compliments on his display than he does about the knives inside. :) Wish I had a picture of it here to show.

My wife bought me this cool leather jewelry case each level spins out I love it
...
That's a fantastic set-up you have there, Keith!:thumbup: What are the dimensions of each tray, about 4" x 4" x 1"? What would you estimate for the capacity with "average-sized" knives, about 30-40? I can see why you love it!

Order is necessary at this stage, I will have to find another container soon.

My knives are strewn about the house on this table and that table. There's always a knife to play with within reach.

My Dad gave me my first pocket knife 40+ years ago so I returned the favor on his 85th birthday by giving him this Gerstner Machinist's tool chest. I added a few knives to supplement his collection as well.
